Senate Election Coverage

After a late start, the Senate election has finally begun. We now have sixteen candidates running for six positions. Before yesterday, there were only eight, but the number doubled, as a result of a protest over the late start. Now, with the poll actually open, the official coverage can begin.

With the poll being open for a little less than an hour, the top six are:
  • Drecq - 12
  • Calvin Coolidge - 10
  • writinglegend - 9
  • Anumia - 8
  • Notolecta - 8
  • PhDre - 8
This is essentially what was predicted by the EBC poll, before the standing period started. With the addition of the eight new candidates, however, anything could change as a result. For instance, Zenny Fominov, who stood yesterday, is tied with Cordova I, who stood near the start of the process, with six votes, both very close to the final seat. How will this end? We'll keep you updated.

Roughly one hour from the end of the election, here's the top six:
  • Drecq - 27
  • Anumia - 23
  • PhDre - 23
  • writinglegend - 22
  • Calvin Coolidge - 22
  • Rach - 20
As far as honorable mentions, Notolecta has 16 votes. This race seems to be increasingly difficult for Notolecta, and it is tough to imagine a comeback this late in the race.

The EBC Panel discussed Rach's run for Senate.
The Panel said:
[11:21] <CalvinCoolidge> Since we have so many people, we should talk about the race.
[11:21] <PhDre> I missed the entire run up to the election :p
[11:21] <PhDre> Missed - a lot- there
[11:21] <writinglegend> :p
[11:21] <Mousebumples> should we talk about which senator is most likely to be replaced with a by-election at some point? :p
[11:21] <Rach> Meh, pretty boring election up until the end
[11:21] <Mousebumples> it happens pretty much every term
[11:21] <Rach> Oh noes
[11:21] <CalvinCoolidge> But you have the EBC coverage to catch you up. ;)
[11:21] <RZM> Also going on in 40 minutes - Kraken's wedding to Haley :p
[11:22] <PhDre> That I do
[11:22] <writinglegend> Really?
[11:22] <writinglegend> 40 mins
[11:22] <Rach> I think I could have competed with Drecq if I tried from the start >.<
[11:22] <writinglegend> Idk if I can make it :/
[11:22] <PhDre> Maybe
[11:22] <CalvinCoolidge> Man, I need to rent a tuxedo.
[11:22] <PhDre> Like posted a platform and stuff?
[11:22] <Rach> I have posted parts of a platform
[11:22] <Rach> yeah, and actually campaigned
[11:23] <writinglegend> I got the dolphins game and I'm getting the snuffles
[11:23] <writinglegend> Think I'm getting a cold or something
[11:23] <PhDre> Didnt you post the platform after you were ahead of noto though?
[11:23] <CalvinCoolidge> I think it was right before that.
[11:23] <PhDre> I havent been following the election very much
[11:23] <Cord> Lol..yes I AM Euro history!
[11:24] <Rach> how are the dolphins doing?
[11:24] <Mousebumples> define "platform" phdre - do you mean her bikini pic promise? or the actual platform content?
[11:24] <PhDre> content
[11:24] <Mousebumples> ah, then you might be right
[11:24] <writinglegend> SHUT I RACH
[11:24] <writinglegend> SHUT IT NOW
[11:24] <Rach> :(
[11:24] <writinglegend> :p
[11:24] <Rach> I'm sorry, I didn't know
[11:24] <writinglegend> I thought you knew
[11:24] <writinglegend> :p
[11:24] <writinglegend> Sowwy
[11:25] * writinglegend huggles Rach
[11:25] <Rach> In fairness, I didn't think I'd win :p
[11:25] * Rach huggles WL relectuntantly
[11:25] <PhDre> Not your fault that people voted for you
[11:25] <PhDre> Mostly their fault lol
[11:25] <Rach> *reluctantly
[11:25] <CalvinCoolidge> "Not your fault" XD
[11:25] <Mousebumples> yay for putting a woman in the senate!
[11:25] <Rach> It's not my fault my body is magnificent :(
[11:25] <Mousebumples> do we know that yet?
[11:26] <Rach> lol
[11:26] <Rach> no, I'm fat :p
[11:26] <Rach> I just ate an icecream o.0
[11:26] <Mousebumples> yum yum
[11:26] <Mousebumples> i'm heading out for a wine dinner shortly
[11:26] <writinglegend> I'm lactose intolerant
[11:26] <writinglegend> Can't have ice-cream
[11:26] <writinglegend> :p
[11:26] <Rach> In fairness, my bikini promise also came with a bit of a legislative agenda
[11:26] <CalvinCoolidge> It was more of a two-piece plan. :p
[11:27] <PhDre> 'Secondly, I do have some legislative plans mainly involving looking into and expanding original property. There are still many laws that could be looked at and I believe my leadership and energy could be put to good use in the Senate. '
[11:27] <PhDre> (was the agenda)
[11:27] <Rach> If I win, I'll post a speech called "Thank you perverts"

With the twenty-four hour period elapsed, here's the top six:
  • Drecq - 27
  • Anumia - 23
  • PhDre - 23
  • writinglegend - 22
  • Calvin Coolidge - 22
  • Rach - 20
As far as honorable mentions, Notolecta had 16 votes. This race is now over. With the addition of eight new candidates the day before the election, this race had a different feel going into it than many had expected. After the protest fueled by a late start to the election elevated Rach to the Senate, how will this be remembered? Is this a lesson to the Supreme Chancellors? The region? Or something different altogether? Either way, this race was ultimately determined in its final hours, and certainly provided for some interesting conversation.

The EBC Panel gives their thoughts on the race
The Panel said:
[12:49] <CalvinCoolidge> So, Rach won. :p
[12:50] <Rach> I came in 6th. Hardly winning.
[12:50] <Sopo> it's a win considering how little platform you had
[12:50] <Sopo> also, Zenny got more votes than I expected
[12:50] <Rach> I built up platform later. Yeah, Zenny got more than I thought she would
[12:50] <Sopo> as did I, for that matter
[12:50] <CalvinCoolidge> Iron Rebel did well, too.
[12:50] <writinglegend> Congrats Rach :)
[12:51] * writinglegend high-fives Rach
[12:51] <writinglegend> Congrats Calvin
[12:51] * writinglegend high-fives Calvin
[12:51] <CalvinCoolidge> Considering nobody had a platform. :p
[12:51] <Rach> Drecq did super
[12:51] * CalvinCoolidge high-fives back
[12:51] <CalvinCoolidge> Drecq for Pres! :D
[12:51] <Rach> I think PaulWall has a lot of improving to do considering he wrote a real manifesto
[12:51] <Sopo> no kidding
[12:52] <Rach> I would definitely support Drecq for President
[12:52] <Sopo> he just hasn't... done... anything
[12:52] <Sopo> ever
[12:52] <Rach> I mean, how awesome would Drecq/Mouse or Mouse/Drecq be?
[12:52] <CalvinCoolidge> Well, Ogastein took his transparency dealio.
[12:52] <CalvinCoolidge> That was something.
[12:52] == Kraketopia has joined #EBC
[12:53] <Kraketopia> Sup
[12:53] == mode/#EBC [+o Kraketopia] by CalvinCoolidge
[12:53] <Kraketopia> EBC wedding coverage? :p
[12:53] <CalvinCoolidge> I'll mention it in the Wire tomorrow. :p
[12:53] <writinglegend> I don't think it even hit me that I won
[12:53] <writinglegend> :p
[12:53] <Sopo> I haven't even looked at the wedding :p
[12:53] <Kraketopia> Lol
[12:53] <Kraketopia> Bastard :p
[12:54] <writinglegend> I need to nap :p
[12:54] <Sopo> I try to care
[12:54] <Rach> I think the biggest story regarding the elections hasn't been the actual candidates but the people running it
[12:54] <Sopo> but it's hard
[12:54] <Rach> what is so hard?
[12:54] <CalvinCoolidge> Yeah, that was something.
[12:54] <PhDre> Idk I think the race itself is pretty significant
[12:54] <CalvinCoolidge> It's hard to care about weddings, Rach. :p
[12:55] <Rach> Just wait until we're married ;)
[12:55] <Rach> There wasn't that many surprises in the race really
[12:55] <Rach> Except for the last spot potentially
[12:55] <writinglegend> there wasnt
[12:56] <Sopo> dropped off my gift, Kraken
[12:56] <CalvinCoolidge> I was a little surprised how much butt Drecq kicked. But pleasantly so.
[12:57] <Kraketopia> Yeah Drecq was a machine
[12:57] <PhDre> Yeah the last spot was the surprise, really
[12:57] <Kraketopia> Anumia really recovered at the end
[12:57] <writinglegend> I was surprised Rach won
[12:57] <writinglegend> No offense
[12:57] <Rach> I came in 6th......
[12:57] <Rach> Hardly winning :p
[12:57] <Sopo> I wasn't really
[12:57] <writinglegend> But there was no real platform for half of the race
[12:58] <Kraketopia> How did you know what to get me Sopo <3
[12:58] <PhDre> Rach learns what winning is
[12:58] <PhDre> getting a senate seat
[12:58] <Sopo> Noto and Cord were more legitimate, but not necessarily great choices for a lot of people
[12:58] <CalvinCoolidge> When was the last time you were a Senator, Rach?
[12:59] <CalvinCoolidge> Or have you ever? :p
[12:59] <Rach> I don't know.
[13:00] <Kraketopia> This is going to be a good senate
[13:00] <CalvinCoolidge> It has a lot of energy, at least.
[13:00] <writinglegend> I'm going to fill up the wedding
[13:00] <writinglegend> Will doctor who gifs
[13:00] * writinglegend cackles
[13:00] <Rach> I have been elected before as a Senator
[13:02] <Rach> I've never been speaker though, it's one of the few positions i have never held :(

Calvin Coolidge said:
[11:25] <Rach> It's not my fault my body is magnificent :(

She's right though.

I am surprised at how many votes Drecq received, to be honest; I would have thought his fighting in and out of the Senate, and his campaign against parties etc, would have harmed in at the ballot box, but maybe the punching newbies policy is genuinely popular :p
