New NS Feature. Costs Money?
EBC Debates - You Decide

Is [Violet] A Cat?

$2.99 doesn't get you much these days. It's about the same as a monthly payment to insure your iPhone, a bottle of beer... a quality chocolate bar or a game of ol' pitch and toss. Last night though NationState's resident super-being [Violet] announced that for a one-off $2.99 payment you can have an add-free version of the site. Yeahy? Well there are two problems with this, firstly it could be the start of more paying features that we have come to expect for most Facebook-style games. Now it is extremely unlikely for NationStates to go down this route, especially after the failed attempt to do this with No Sense, however this could merely be the start.

On a more business perspective, doesn't this now lower the monthly $'s paid by companies to advertise on the site? Since there is a way to now not see the adverts why should advertisers pay the same as before? Additionally, beyond the initial spike of interest now that this has been announced, who's to say it'll become a long-term means of the site making income? It is this reporters opinion that this method would not be viable beyond the present. We will see though.

For those interested in purchasing the feature you may do so here.

While AdBlocker and AdBlocker both exist and are free.... what about the poor NS coffers?

I've never had a problem with the ads, honestly, even before I installed AdBlocker for other sites, primarily. I think when [violet] says this is a way to make pages load faster s/he's stretching a bit. Has anyone really ever complained that the one side ad made the forums impossible to use?

They've never bothered me either.

Have to admit that I've never had a problem and some of the adverts I actually enjoy. I use ad-blocker and that does the trick, if I had to pay I would live with the ads. :p

There are ads? I don't use any fancy adblocker, but I've never really noticed them
How have you not notices the new Snorg Tshirts hottie? Best moment of recruiting is having her appear not once, not twice but three times in a row. An epic moment indeed.

I think the Snorg T-shirt girls* are the main reason I never bother using an ad blocker. To be honest, I rarely notice ads on websites I'm using.

* = in no particular order, there's Ashley, Krystal, Sheena, Marissa, Lacey (Google is a wonderful tool)

EDIT: And apparently they sell a goddamned Snorg Tee calendar?!

Is it a T-Shirt calendar or...... better?

For those wondering the list goes:

Krystal, Ashley, Sheena, Lacey, Marissa

The ads on the NS site are grand, I mean they dont pop up in front of you every time to go to a new page or just randomly pop up for 30 secs like some sites...............always ruining football matches!!!!!!!!!!!!........................ahem, but I'd like to know what this supporter trophy looks like.

The NS ads are so unobtrusive (I'm currently recruiting).
