NATIONSTATES SERVER, AUSTRALIA — One of the world’s most beloved political roleplay games, NationStates, was proclaimed dead at 3:45pm GMT earlier today (23 December 2022) after a long fight against bugs and server crashes. It was 20. The child of Violet and an unknown father, NationStates is survived by its widow, Max Barry, and their tens of thousands of children, including Europeia, The North Pacific, and Ten Thousand Islands.
Although its life was ended tragically too soon by an abrupt server crash, NationStates’ 20 years in this multiverse was storied and prosperous. Its life began in 2002 with the foundation of its code, written in Perl; it gained popularity within the year and soon it was one of the most beloved political games on the planet. NationStates was beloved by many for its ability to help you make political decisions, though others more liked the limitless roleplay that it was willing to handle or the military gameplay, which saw the birth of hundreds of thousands of NationStates’ grandchildren (also known as “puppets” or “nations”). It was even host to the World Assembly, an often violent and contentious playgroup for its young children and grandchildren where they came up with policies that they then enforced.
In November of this year, NationStates held a 20th birthday celebration. Little did everyone know at the time, it would be the last hurrah for this storied game. The celebration of life for NationStates will be held at 16:00 GMT on Monday, 2 January 2023 at St. Violet’s Cathedral. In lieu of flowers, NationStates’ widow Max Barry has requested that mourners bring more RAM power.
ARN would like to send its condolences to all of NationStates’ loved ones.
In other news, moderator unemployment rates have risen 600% after NationStates’ death resulted in the disappearance of most trolls.
