Panda Party Comes to an End
Ovation Ceremony for Calvin Coolidge Concludes
Written by Punchwood

Europeia has concluded its celebration of Calvin Coolidge with his Ovation Ceremony. The ceremony officially opened on the 9th of February after President Rach nominated Calvin for an Ovation in the previous term and being approved by the Senate. The nomination citied Calvin's behind the scenes work providing 90% of all Wire updates and his 40,000-manual recruitment telegram record, beaten by only two other members; in conjunction with his more public work, serving in numerous positions in all three branches of government

Some of the festival activities included sharing memories of Calvin, attempting to describe him in just three words or less, and even a meme contest. Two radio broadcasts were also run during the celebration. The first was a “Calvation Dramatic Reading” with Calvin and Sopo and the second was a discussion with Sopo, Drexlore, Darcness, and Aexnidaral who discussed and celebrated Calvin and his work in the region.

The ERN also participated in the festivities, capturing three regions in honour of Calvin; "Balloons," Pizza Party Consulate" and, "Pacific Islands." The reasoning being that Balloons and Pizza are both required for the party, while the final, Grand Admiral Drexlore joked was because now that Calvin was an Honoured Citizen he had little to do, so the ERN had found him a retirement home where he could eat bamboo and listen to Taylor Swift as much as he liked.

The largest part of an Ovation Ceremony are the speeches, and Calvin's was no different. Sopo, Darcness Aexnidaral, Kraketopia, Rach, Malashaan, and WritingLegend each took a turn honouring Calvin. Sopo focused on his friendship with Calvin opening simply with “I like Calvin.” Darcness took an unusual route and talked about statistics. He looked at the number of times Calvin had served in positions, the number of medals he had received, and the number of Wire updates he had done. He summed Calvin up in three words: “Caring. Foresight. Dedication.” Aexnidaral also talked about his relationship with Calvin from when he “played” him, to when they finally got to know each other after Calvin’s resignation from the Presidency. Aexnidaral said he admired Calvin's tenacity and being a person who would make mistakes, learn from them, and always get back to work.

Rach dedicated her speech to Calvin’s work. His work in recruitment, on the Wire, and his service in the ERN. She paid tribute to his patience and understanding and even said, “it is difficult to imagine what Europeia would be like without you.” Kraketopia delivered a very strong and perhaps emotional piece. He discussed nearly every aspect of Calvin from his near constant work on the Wire, as well his dedication to the ERN. He remained us that Calvin first impressed the region for being a fantastic writer. Finally he talked about Calvin's personality as a fun and humorous person while also being a decent one, willing to take on, often thankless work for the bettermenat of the community. He rounded off his speech calling Calvin a “great statesman....an excellent son and an even better friend.”

Malashaan talked about Calvin’s work as perhaps less noticeable than that of his former rival Writinglegend, but no less vital to the region. His often underappreciated and less glamorous work has improved the region greatly and helps to keep it running. Malashaan mentioned his deep respect for Calvin, dedicating his work not for “glory or recognition or power," but that he did it because “it's about service.” He ended calling on Europeians to “#BeLikeCalvin.” Writinglegend started by mentioning his early relationship with Calvin, viewing him as a rival, before they both became Ministers and strong friends. He said that Calvin did everything “not for glamour, but for good.” That Calvin worked hard not for his own political ambition but for the betterment of the community and that as President his ability to govern and do a good job were clear. He finished off saying that it was time to not only recognise Calvin’s work but also to reward him for that work.

While Calvin's ovation may have come to an end that does not mean Europeians should forget about Calvin's work in the region. While each speech was unique they all recognised Calvin as a fantastic person and his often undervalued yet crucial work for the region. As Rach said it is difficult to imagine Europeia without Calvin in it, his tireless work is vital in keeping Europeia as the great region it is, and his patient and caring attitude has helped virtually everyone in the region. As Writinglegend said Europeia must not just recognise Calvin's work but also reward it, and so from all of us at the EBC thank you Calvin.

A wonderful event from Culture, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Let's do this again sometime. ;)
