Back in 2012, the admin team team decided to disable the ability to link to remote avatars (see here). The use of remote avatars raises various concerns, including forum security.
It has come to our attention that at some point, the ability to use links to remote avatars was reactivated. We are not sure how or when, but our best guess is that a forum upgrade automatically changed the setting.
We have discussed this and determined that the original reasons for disabling this feature still apply, and we have therefore disabled it again. As a result, some of your avatars may no longer function. This change does not affect your ability to download an image and then upload it to the forum as an avatar. Therefore, if you previously used a link to a remote avatar, you can still download that image from the source and upload it for use.
Please let me or one of the other admins know if you have any questions.
