Executive Approval Poll Shows Support, But Little Enthusiasm

Executive Approval Poll Shows Support, But Little Enthusiasm
By Festavo and Comrade Prim

With a Citizens' Assembly (CA) Chair election ongoing, a Presidential election incoming, and a term beginning to wind down, the Europeian Broadcasting Corporation (EBC) conducted a poll from March 2 to March 5. A total of 25 respondents voiced their opinions on Executive approval, the CA Chair race, and the fast approaching Presidential election.

This is the first of a three part series from the EBC where we release the results of the poll by section and provide some analysis on the data and comments. The subject of today's piece is Executive approval. How have the President and Vice President performed in the eyes of the region? What about the Cabinet? Read on to hear the voices of some of the region's active citizens.

The Executive as a Whole

This term has been overall, not great. Rach's time in office was vacant any meaningful progress, and Malashaan has only kept the ship afloat.
Seems to be pulling things together now.
Good finish to the term
Been neither here nor there besides a couple standouts
The Executive as a whole has a 72 percent approval rating. 16 percent of respondents disapprove of the Executive's performance and 12 percent hold a neutral view. Interestingly, none of the respondents chose the "Strongly Approve" option. Based on the above data, the Executive meets with wide approval and enjoys a certain level of popularity, but there isn't much enthusiasm from the populace.

Comments point to a term that is viewed as just okay with little enthusiasm. The most positive comment stated that there has been a "good finish to the term" and the most negative comment states that President Rach's time in office was "vacant any meaningful progress" while President Malashaan has "only kept the ship afloat." The general view in the region is that the term got a very mediocre to bad start and only in the second half or later did prospects start to look up and things get pulled together.

President Malashaan

Malashaan has been a competent placeholder. Nothing to write home about, but the trains are at least (sort of) running.
Slow at first, Mal has really picked up the pace and has been an effective president, though it is not clear what changes will transpire from this presidency.
Glad to see he's active now.
A burst of activity and then... crickets. Where'd he go?
President Malashaan's approval rating is 72 percent. Only 12 percent of respondents hold a negative view of the President and 16 percent have a neutral opinion. These results show that the President is popular, but he unsurprisingly suffers from the same lack of enthusiastic support as the Executive as a whole.

Comments are mostly positive. One comment calls the President a "competent placeholder" with "nothing to write home about". Another says he "picked up the pace and has been an effective president", but wonders what "changes will transpire from this presidency". The most negative comment wonders where the President went after a "burst of activity". Shortly after rising to the office after the resignation of President Rach, President Malashaan released several speeches and showed a high level of activity, but in recent times his absence has been noted by the public.

Vice President Writinglegend

More visual of the VPs we've had in a while.
Sorry to dig on Gleg, but what exactly has he done?
He has been active and I expect him to do well.
Writinglegend has been doing what a VP does best: bringing notice to things the President can't, like our flagging Reserves.
With an 84 percent approval rating in which 28% of respondents chose "Strongly Approve", Vice President Writinglegend is a change from the norm we have seen thus far in the poll. Only 4 percent of respondents disapprove of the Vice President and 12% hold a neutral view.

Writinglegend began the term as Minister of Culture and has shown himself to be an active driving force throughout the term. Along with the approval numbers, most comments seem to suggest that Writinglegend has avoided the "VP curse" where Vice Presidents are perceived as mediocre because of their usual lack of visible accomplishments. The only negative comment apologizes for a "dig" on Writinglegend, but asks "what exactly has he done?" The other comments praise the Vice President for being active, visible, and "bringing notice to things the President can't, like our flagging Reserves."

Grand Admiral Drexlore

Seems to have done okay so far.
Quiet. Too quiet.
With a 68 percent approval rating, Grand Admiral Drexlore holds the third lowest approval rating out of the Executive. He doesn't seem unpopular though as he only holds a 12 percent disapproval rating with 20 percent holding a neutral view, the second highest neutral rating out of the Executive.

Commenters don't seem to hold a negative tone, but one says he has been "too quiet" and the other says that he "seems to have done okay so far." Any concerns about his job performance seem to stem from a perceived lack of activity from the Navy, but the overarching opinion is that he is doing at least okay.

Minister of Interior Punchwood

Worked steadily on the handbook.
Anything going on here?
Minister of Interior Punchwood approval rating isn't far over the midway point at 56 percent. His disapproval rating is similar to the others at 12%, but his neutral rating is the highest among his peers at 32 percent.

Comments are split on his job performance this term. One comment seems to suggest inactivity by asking "anything going on here?", but another compliments Punchwood by stating he "worked steadily on the handbook." His high neutral rating and relatively mediocre approval rating likely means that a lot of Europeians don't see a lot of progress out of Interior while also either not blaming Punchwood or believing he is doing at least a down the middle okay job.

Minister of Communications Festavo

Excellent output
Everything's happening pretty much as it should. Could use some editing though.
Definite standout
With an overall approval rating of 76%, Minister of Communications Festavo (Fest) is ranked equal with two other ministers for the second highest approval percentage. Fest's approval rating is a clear sign that he has been one of the pillars of stability and productivity during this mostly quiet term.

Focusing on consistent and diverse output, Fest has ultimately been able to avoid the dwindling activity among executive assistant ministers and produce a significant amount of articles for the EBC. Comments have similarly positive things to add, one noting that the Ministry of Communications under Fest had "Excellent Output". One commenter noted that Fest was a "definite standout".

Minister of World Assembly Affairs Moronist Decisions

MD's dealt a bad hand, trying to get Euro to care about the World Assembly, but he's soldiering on anyway.
Minister Moronist Decisions ties for second highest approval rating at 76 percent, but stands alone as the only member of the Executive to walk away without a single disapproving response. He holds a 24 percent neutral rating.

Only one individual commented. The comment showed sympathy with the Minister by saying he has been "dealt a bad hand" in regards to getting Europeia to hold an interest in the World Assembly, but that he is "soldiering on anyway." The general feeling in Europeia is be one of near universal respect for Moronist Decisions and, despite his self-admitted less than ideal activity, they think he has done a solid job.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Calvin Coolidge

Inactive. Wish we had more direction. Any direction.
Not sure. FA isn't going to have constant activity, a lot of it is behind the scenes work. But an announcement or two would be useful so that we know what is going on.
2 Updates all term? That's it? Most of the initiative in FA comes from the President, but FA has been pretty much silent.
Minister Calvin Coolidge holds the lowest approval rating out of his peers and he is the only one to have an approval rating below the halfway mark with a disappointing 44 percent. He holds the highest disapproval rating at 36 percent and 20 percent hold a neutral view. There is still a couple weeks left in the term if this Minister has any projects to unveil that could save an arguably disappointing term, but only time will tell if he can shake it off.

All comments show disappointment in Calvin Coolidge's performance. One individual seems to imply that they are in the Foreign Affairs ministry by saying they wish they had "more direction" or any direction. Another comment calls the FA ministry "silent" and, while acknowledging that most of the initiative in that ministry comes from the President, seems underwhelmed that only 2 updates were posted all term. The final commenter strikes the most neutral tone by saying that "FA isn't going to have constant activity" but says that "an announcement or two would be useful so we know what is going on." The general feeling is one of disappointment in a lack of direction or knowledge of what is happening within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Minister of Culture Comrade Prim

Comrade Prim is a rising star.
He really stood out this term
Minister of Culture Comrade Prim holds the highest approval rating among his peers with a whopping 84 percent. He holds the second lowest disapproval rating at a mere 4 percent and his neutral rating is about average at 12 percent. Taking office midway into the term after the elevation of Writinglegend to the Vice Presidency, Comrade Prim is perceived as doing a fine job despite his relative youth in the region.

Comments are supportive of the Minister. One comment calls him a "rising star" in the region and another observes that "he really stood out this term." It seems that only time will tell if this star will continue rising into the next term and what heights he will achieve.

Minister of Radio Sopo

Excellent output
Minister of Radio Sopo is the third part of the three way tie for second highest approval rating with a solid 76 percent. His disapproval rating is tied with neutral with both clocking in at 12 percent.

Only one individual commented on this, but the comment is a positive one. The commenter praises Sopo for "excellent output". Sopo has been a staple of the Ministry of Radio for a long time now and it is clear that his work is still valued and appreciated.

Attorney General Drecq

Seems to be keeping the Law Clerks busy.
Taking office midway into the term after Darcness was nominated to the Court, Attorney General Drecq ties with Drexlore for third lowest approval rating with 68 percent. His disapproval rating is above average and tied with his neutral rating at 16 percent. A legal staple in Europeia, he was the logical choice for Attorney General, but his approval rating is lower than could have been expected.

Only one individual commented, but their comment was a relatively positive one. The comment pointed out that Drecq "seems to be keeping the Law Clerks busy." This could hint at a general feeling that the Attorney General is doing a competent job, but nothing spectacular.

That concludes the results of the poll. Thank you for reading and I hope this helped capture the voice of Europeians so that our government and future governments know how the populace feels. Thanks also to Comrade Prim for contributing to the analysis of Minister of Communications Festavo. Keep on the lookout for the next installment in this series.
