EuroChoice Awards 2018: Winners and Others

EuroChoice 2018: Winners and Others
Written by Airbus

On January 30th, after 24 hours of voting and much speculation, the winners of the EuroChoice Awards 2018 were announced on a radio show hosted by Minister of Radio Sopo, as well as on the forums by Minister of Culture Writinglegend. Here is a breakdown of who walked out with what awards, and how we can deduce what marked Europeians in the year 2017.

Personal Awards

Gold: Awards Silver: Second Places

The Great Winner of this year's EuroChoice awards Ceremony is, unequivocally, Pyntuma, who was elected "Most Welcoming Europeian", clocked in the "Workhorse Award", and was crowned Europeian of the Year, totalling no less than three awards. This relatively new player, arrived in February 2017, is mostly known as the runner of Weekend Games and for her cheerful attitude both on Discord and on the Forums, though she is also a large contributor in the Ministry of Interior. More than for her zealous work in the Executive, she was nominated for her constant spreading of uplifting and motivational messages in a region deeply affected by numerous difficult events.

To quote Darcness, who nominated her for the Europeian of the Year Award: ". . . if every Europeian remembered the lessons that she tries to teach us, we'd all be in a better way." The award proves that Europeians feel they are in need of hard working but also agreeable and humane citizens. A stance Pyntuma has assumed throughout the year, as the two other awards she received, namely Workhorse Award for her role in managing Weekend Games, and Most Welcoming Europeian for her constant outreach and comforting of newcomers.

Registering two awards, Darcness has had a rapid and intense political career this year, arriving in late October 2016, and rising to the Ministry of Communications under President Aexnidaral and, in March 2016, soaring to the Vice-Presidency with barely 5 months of activity under his belt, following former Vice-President Brunhilde's resignation. His arrival mid-term did not stop him from performing hard work, and he was re-elected Vice-President under Calvin Coolidge in the following term. Following Calvin Coolidge's resignation, Darcness grabbed the relay and sat the second half of the term as President.

Darcness' efforts do not end there, and after clocking in a third Vice-Presidential half-term following Rach's accession to the Presidency, he was, at the end of the year 2017, added to the Administrative Team where he now serves. For his three times as Vice-President, none of which was in normal circumstances, Darcness earned a "Vice-President of the Year" Award, coupled with the "Break-Out Europeian of the Year" award, for his incredible rise from citizen to President in less than a year.

Also with two awards stands Airbus, who arrived in mid-November 2017 and, soon after arrival, ran for Citizens' Assembly Chair. After a successful term marked by the release of written resources for the Legislative Training Centre and the advancement of projects within the Assembly, Airbus was awarded the "Citizens' Assembly Chair of the Year" award, along with the "Most Promising Newcomer of the Year" award for a rapid gain in influence despite arriving in late 2017.

After two Presidential terms this year and a record as the longest serving President, Writinglegend has become a regular of Goldenblock Avenue. His two successful terms and his general and tireless commitment to the regional Executive have swayed Europeians into awarding him the "President of the Year" award.

Malashaan, the multi-term Senator who acted both as Speaker and Senator during the year, has once again faithfully served in the Senate, and has shown substantial activity and commitment in the legislative body, and was awarded the "Senator of the Year" award.

Rach receiving the "Come Back Europeian of the Year" Award can sound as a surprise as they have not left Europeia to come back this year (starting the year as Assembly Chair and finishing it as President) and is a long-time member of the region. However, Rach’s policy has changed massively, moving from a renowned aggressive stance towards rivals to a more conciliatory and federative position, especially after she was entrusted with the responsibilities of President after Brunhilde's ban.

Calvin Coolidge, despite a resignation as President, has otherwise shown consistent service in numerous departments of Government, from Interior Minister to Grand Admiral, and his recent nomination as Minister of Foreign Affairs promises a continuation of the trend. For their hard and loyal service to the Government and their presence in most Presidential administrations, Calvin Coolidge was awarded the "Cabinet Member of the year" award.

As the longest serving Chief Justice, and widely acclaimed for the quality and insight of his rulings, OnderKelkia is one of the major legal players in the game, mastering Europeian Law in its most subtle folds and showing it through sharp and detailed Court rulings. Consequently, they were awarded the "Legal Eagle" award.

Media Awards

Acknowledged for their fine analysis of data and its persistence in informing about the effects of Discord on Europeian society, the E-News Network’s (ENN) quality has been recognized by Europeians, who awarded the outlet the title of "Best Media Outlet".

It is hence not surprising to see that the article Europeians considered to be the best this year was one from the E- News Network: Discord is Hell. In a controversial but sustain criticism of the negative effects of Discord on Europeia, author HEM has certainly stirred debate and brought a subject to awareness enough to see their article be awarded the title of "Best Private Media Article".

On Public network side, another controversial article has stuck in Europeians' memories as this year's best. Following a petition to Nationstates Moderators to review their current stance on treatment of information about sexual harassers operating offsite, and their subsequent refusal, Communications Minister Writinglegend released a poignant opinion article featuring radio recordings and controversial position taking, representing at best the region's opinion after it had been shaken by a certain number of cases of sexual misconduct. The article named Nationstates Moderators Abdicate Moral High Ground, leaving community vulnerable with latest decision received a "Best Public Media Article" distinction.

As an essential component of modern Communications, Radio achievements were recognized in a "Dramatic Reading on Keshiland Challenging Lethen", featuring the time when Supreme Chancellor Lethen saw a petition opened to challenge him on the speeches of an inexperienced newcomer.

Razzies

As a slightly less serious award set, the Razzies are interesting nonetheless, and have seen a certain number of laureates.

The distinction of best avatar came to Cat, who has been using her avatar to convey a message of femininity with the use of well photographed and attractive women as their avatar.

The worst avatar Razzie has been awarded to Sopo. Although Sopo's avatars did not stand out as terrible during the year, Lethen's victory at a weekend game just before the nomination period led him to change Sopo's avatar to Ice Age's character Sid the Sloth in a truly ridiculous position. On air, Sopo has qualified the incident as an "injustice". Will Sopo sue the voters?

Sopo did well on the Razzies, and clocked in a second award: most likely to coup. Only time will tell us if the voters were right in predicting a Slothtatorship.

JayDee may have left the region, but not Europeian memories, who have awarded him the "Most Likely to Delete Poll Info" Razzie. After all, they do have some experience. The award refers to a scandal where Minister of Communication JayDee failed to include some pieces of data from a poll.

High commitment means very little time for a real life, and Europeians have considered that only Writinglegend can be geeky enough to commit that much to Europeia. Who knows, maybe our Gleg is a bot, and their voice is completely synthetic (our programmers can invent some pretty terrible things these days).

The time Keshiland attempted to vote Lethen out of Office did not only mark radio listeners. Europeians have overall considered it as the "Thread of the Year".

Interestingly, the "Forum Post of the Year" does not come from the Thread of the Year. Instead, it is posted in a Holy Court of HEM hearing against former citizen Aditya Republic. For the non-sensitive, you may see it all here.

What kind of alcohol can Common Sense Politics abuse to the point of being declared "Most Drunk Member"? The ERN's rum has never been good to drink!

Aditya Republic, already commended for posting the Thread of the Year has been awarded the title of "Member that Needs Spellcheck", as they are widely known for their sometimes hard to comprehend spelling.

Cat, owner of the best avatar, has also conspicuously been elected as the "Least innocent Member". One never knows what is going on in that private server of her...

As for the title of "Most Likely to Wear Jorts", it must have been created for our favorite wearer of jorts, HEM! The question now is whether he wears men's or ladies' jorts...

These EuroChoice awards are an excellent occasion to reflect on the year past and wonder what we will remember from 2017. We have had a tumultuous year, but also a year of revelations of talents, confirmations of presumptions and surprises from some of our oldest members, bad or good.
Congratulations to all those who received some imagery, and for the others, better luck next time!

Did she suddenly multiply? Inception?

Did she suddenly multiply? Inception?

Gender neutral singular possessive adjective -

Doesn't have to be plural

Don't worry, it stills works grammatically.
