TRR Dispute Settled With Joint Statement
A dispute with The Rejected Realms (TRR) arose after former TNP official MadJack posted an inflammatory dispatch accusing Europeia of spying on TRR. The events that followed created a whirlwind across the world and on Europeia's own shores.

Foreign Affairs Advisor Kazaman announces the settlement between Europeia and The Rejected Realms at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday

On June 9th, former The North Pacific (TNP) Madjack posted an inflammatory dispatch accusing The Republic of Europeia of espionage against our new ally, The Rejected Realms. He worked to distribute this dispatch across numerous Discord servers, hurling profanity toward then-President Rand along the way. This action garnered massive interest across gameplay, with extensive commentary in the Nationstates Gameplay forum. Temperatures got so heated from onlookers that at one point, a senior official from The Communist Bloc proposed that to solve the dispute, regions should, "Send sleepers into Europeia and burn it to the ground."

Naturally, this triggered a foreign relations event between The Rejected Realms and Europeia. That incident now officially comes to the close with a mutual settlement, which was announced today in a short statement by Foreign Affairs Advisor, Kazaman: "[...] Talks have concluded, and we reached an agreement on a joint statement text. It will be posted shortly on each other's forums, as well as on TRR's NSGP embassy thread."

The joint statement establishes that: "Europeia did not conduct espionage, is not aware of any attempts to do so, and is in good standing within Aegis."

Triggered by Madjack's explosive, defammatory dispatch, there was much speculation in the NSGP community that Europeia had sent spies to The Rejected Realms or somehow collaborated with agents to obtain "leaked" information. This statement should put those suggestions firmly to rest.

The joint statement text does include an apology from Europeia. The apology is specifically for not informing The Rejected Realms that our government came into possession of protected material — not the previously demanded apology for having inadvertently received the information or utilizing it. Many foreign affairs experts in Europeia opposed the broader apology as it would create a precedent that Europeia could not use information inadvertently gained that had ramifications on our foreign policy or regional security.

The broad apology was one of several sticking points that led to Europeia previously pulling out of talks with the Rejected Realms and implementing a make-good unilaterally from our side. This move rose questions abroad, but also at home, with Senator McEntire and others critical of the decision to end talks. This created an explosive domestic conversation on the nature of Senate accountability over foreign affairs and the proper way to conduct oversight — with some believing that politics should stop (or at least proceed more cautiously) at the water's edge, and others feeling that the Senate should investigate foreign policy decisions as rigorously as possible without concern for implications on the world stage. Ultimately, the firebrand Senator McEntire survived an effort to remove him from office in a 60-40% vote.

Foreign Affairs Advisor Kazaman announced that talks had restarted on June 19th, when The Rejected Realms agreed to reconsider some of their previous redlines in exchange for a more limited apology from Europeia and other compromise terms — which ultimately led to yesterday's joint statement. With this event coming to a close, President Pland Adanna told EBC:

"I am really glad that, after putting in a lot of hard work, we were able to come to a conclusion that satisfies both parties, and I am very proud of my administration's actions and approach to this issue. Today is a fantastic day for Europeia-TRR relations, and I greatly look forward to continuing and building on our strong relationship with TRR and all of the Aegis Accords."

With this matter considered closed by both parties, a contentious month-long chapter in Europeian history has come to a close. However, conversations about Senate oversight and potential litigation from Senator McEnter remain:

"I am glad that TRR is satisfied, and that puts to bed any diplomatic concerns. But we admitted fault in the statement, and that means we have more work domestically to do on how this was handled. I applaud the FA team for their work in bringing this matter to a close, and look forward to further informing the Europeian public," Senator McEntire told EBC.

Wow! This was super fast, high-quality coverage! Great work, HEM and the EBC!

Amazing how our FA team went from in a position of being demanded to give a unilateral apology to publishing a joint statement with TRR that affirms we did not commit espionage and upholds our standing within Aegis.

That’s a tremendous outcome.
