The Senate End-Of-Term Approval Poll:

Senate:

Despite the sudden departure of two serving Senators, the Senate managed to keep things steady under the leadership of the new Speaker Cordova according to public opinion. The approval of the Senate rose by a healthy 9.6% over the last month, which could be attributed to the consistent level of activity maintained by the Senate in the words of one respondent.

While the same percentage of people approving of the people also expressed their satisfaction with the level of activity of the Senate, a higher percentage of people were dissatisfied with the Senate's activity this term compared to the percentage disapproving of the Senate.

Speaker Cordova I

Speaker Cordova I's role in keeping the boat steady after the departures of former Speaker Elio and former Senator McEntire has been well-recognised, with an impressive 82.6% of the citizens expressing their approval of his performance. His approval rating also increased by an astonishing 26.4% over the last 30 days, a very positive development for the Senator who is seeking re-election in the upcoming elections. Respondents noted Cordova I's punctuality and professionalism as two key factors behind their positive perception of his performance.

Senator Sincluda:

Newly elected Senator and former Vice-President Sincluda has managed to win the citizens' heart with their exemplary performance in the later half of the Senate's term with more than four-fifths of the region, or 82.6%, satisfied with the Senator's performance. Respondents noted the speed with which the Senator introduced his by-election campaign's flagship pledge, the Senate half terms, on the floor of the Senate. Others were also pleased with the way the Senator performed his oversight duties.

Senator UPC

Senator and World Assembly Delegate UPC has managed to maintain their high approval rating from the mid-term, securing the approval of 86.4% of the respondents, which also represents an increase of 8.2% on his numbers from the mid-term. Respondents were quick to note down his efforts in conducting effective oversight over the ministers, an important part of every Senator's duties.

Senator PhDre

While an impressive 82.6% of the respondents approved of the work done by Senator PhDre, keen observers would find that the percentage of people very satisfied with his work is significantly less compared to the three above Senators. This implies that while the citizens appreciate PhDre's honesty and resilience and the key role they played in the Weighted Voting Amendment (WVA) debate, they did not particularly approve of the Senator's drop in activity following the failed attempt to pass the WVA. Nonetheless, his approval ratings did increase by 20% from the mid-term, which could be in part attributed to the favorable eyes with which the citizens looked at the Senate at this point compared to how they saw the Senate in the mid-terms.

Senator NLHP:

One Senator who would not be pleased after taking a look at the poll ratings is Senator NLHP, one of the two Senators elected in the by-election. A mark of approval from only 26% of the citizenry foreshadows a potentially rocky road to re-election for the Senator. However, the large number of neutral responses means it is still not too late for the Senator to change the minds of voters.

The results are largely reflective of the approval rating of the serving Senators. All but two respondents want Sincluda to throw his ring into the hat in this election, an indication of the citizenry's trust in the Senator who has wasted no time in fulfilling their campaign pledges after being re-elected. Three other Senators (PhDre, Cordova I, UPC) also face an easy road to re-election should they choose to run for re-election. However, more than three-fourths of the region does not want to see NLHP run again for Senate, which might cause some significant worries within the NLHP campaign.

How many seats should the next Senate have?
IMG_2388.jpg
In what should not be a surprise, a plurality of the citizens is in favor of a five-member Senate which is one less than the number of candidates in the elections at the time polls opened. However, a significant portion of the respondents were unsure at the time of writing about the number of seats they wanted in the next Senate, preferring to wait until the opening of the polls possibly to see who else would run in the election. Just less than one-third of the region also prefers a 7-member Senate, exuding confidence that more candidates would be in the running by the time polls open.

How satisfied are you with the current field of candidates?

IMG_2389.jpg

34.7% of citizens expressed their dissatisfaction with the current Senate field, owing to the smaller-than-expected number of candidates running this time. However, a greater percentage of citizens (47.8%) expressed their satisfaction with the current field, possibly due to the good mix of popular and newer candidates.

Out of the current candidates, who do you intend to vote for?

IMG_2390.jpg

All but 3 of the respondents have expressed their willingness to vote for Pichtonia and Istillian, indicating a sweeping victory for both of them in the upcoming elections. Cordova I, riding on the massive public approval of his outgoing Senate term, is also expected to secure re-election by a sweeping margin. While more than half of the respondents are willing to vote for Sky, the comparatively smaller margin might give some sleepless nights to the Sky campaign and indicate there’s more work to be done by the Sky campaign. GraV, despite his wealth of experience, is facing the toughest road to re-election due to the lack of visibility in the campaign. NLHP’s unpopular Senatorial term seems to be the major roadblock in his quest to secure re-election with just 6 out of the 23 respondents expressing their openness to voting for NLHP.
