Europeia One of Three Hoping to Host World Fair

Europeia One of Three Hoping to Host World Fair
By Punchwood

(Europeia – November 26, 2017) – Europeia is one of three regions competing to host this year’s NationStates World Fair. The World Fair will be entering its sixth consecutive year with dozens of regions applying to attend. The region that ends up hosting will have input into the theme of the fair, which has been a critical part of each regional bid for hosting.

Europeia is one of three regions applying to host this year's fair. They want to host the Fair to “give back” and thank NS at large for the recent commendation they awarded the region. Europeia wants to set the theme as “Nationstates of Tomorrow” in which there would be discussions around the future of NS, how to make the game better, and how to keep it safe from predators. They would bring about an Admin Summit to discuss tough issues they have had to face in their communities and widespread advice on how to run an admin team. They also want to make a safety part of their theme with discussions on how younger players can stay safe while playing. Europeia's ideas of making the World Fair both a social event while also discussing the very important and topical discussion of safety will likely strike a chord with many, especially in light of NS Moderation's tone-deaf policy decision to throw-out offsite evidence of harassment and continue its muzzling "defamation" policy.

"Europeia should run the World Fair because of our commitment to fun, safety, and making the world a better place," President Rach commented privately to our EBC reporter. "While Forest and Omniversal Alliance hold well-organized bids, Europeia is primed to make this year's World Fair the most progressive and bold since its inception."

The culture focused region of Forest wants to host to increase their ties to the wider NS world and to learn from other regions. Their region’s biggest love is the environment, which would be their theme for the fair. They want to have discussions and debates on the environment and games and competitions with an environmental theme. Forest has been applauded on its creativity and unique theme idea. In the context of real-world developments, the issue of environmental safety and green-economics is one on the mind of many. However, its very specific theme may put some less interested in the environment off.

Forest's Culture Minister Somyrion said: "Although Forest is undeniably environmentally-focused and aware, that's not the only reason we want to host this year's World Fair. What we really want to highlight is the diversity in NationStates' different subcommunities. With our own strong focus on issues, issue-writing, and the World Assembly as well as being one of the most mature and involved regions in the world, we're hoping to make this year's World Fair a place to learn and interact with unfamiliar parts of NationStates and broaden everyone's horizons so that we all can see the wider picture of the community we take part in."

The very small region of Omniversal Alliance has also placed a bid to host the World Fair. They said that they wished to host to "experience something new". Their theme would be “Understanding the Past through the Present". They want people to understand how lives were in the past, with the fair starting off in “the Stone Age” before entering today’s modern age. While many will no doubt be glad that newer regions are enthusiastic about hosting the fair, it seems very unlikely that the Omniversal Alliance will be chosen to host despite a well-organized bid. Their region has just eight nations in it and lacks establishment within the wider-world.

All NS members can vote in the public poll. Voting opened three days ago and will remain open until tomorrow. The Committee that runs the World Fair will announce the winner by the end of the month.

The EBC urges you to vote for Europeia to host this year's World Fair, here.

Voted.

I’m not usually a fan of the NSWF, but I’m impressed by how the Administration has used this bid to try to bring something positive out of the “Brunhilde” scandal. Even if we don’t win the bid, I hope we’ll move forward with a summit on security issues very early in the new year.
