TL;DR: Sparknotes On JayDee's Platform

TL;DR: Sparknotes On JayDee's Platform
Throughout the upcoming election, EBC will be doing a sparknotes series, providing summary sheets of the major candidates platforms. We will release the articles in the order of platform release, with the goal of releasing daily.

"I ain't reading all that I'm happy for you though or sorry that happened"

Please note: This is a subjective summary of a platform with a focus on distilling out key points. By only reading the summary, you might miss key arguments in favor of a proposed policy or other context. We encourage you to also read JayDee's full platform.

Hello Everyone
  • JayDee has been serving as Minister of Radio after holding many positions over the years. He is joined by Pichtonia.
  • He is running, in part, because Europeia is an NS home that he keeps return to no matter what over the years.
  • JayDee nods to the previous leaders of the last year, and emphasizes that he is ready to step up.
  • JayDee's running mate, Pichtonia, actually sent him a welcoming telegram many years ago. Since then, he has been a mentor to JayDee and is someone who always tells him the uncensored truth. The premise being that they should make them good partners in governance if they win.

Leadership Philosophy
  • Bold vision is useless without bold execution
  • Wants to empower Ministers to set their own policy while overseeing at a high level
  • JayDee will appoint two "Super Ministers" to help reinforce his own weaker leadership attributes:
    • Director of Government Accountability, to ensure the administration is hitting their platform goals
    • Chief of Staff to focus on allocating resources between Ministries and help with coordination (this is mentioned later in platform, but I'm moving here for clarity)
  • These new Super Ministers are replacements to President Adanna's Domestic and Foreign Affairs Advisors
Presenting: Pichtonia!
  • Pichtonia opens with how he felt he was left behind with regards to Radio technology and was reluctant to get involved there again
  • JayDee approached him about getting involved in Radio, and got him up and running again
  • Pichtonia feels that JayDee has been a great Minister of Radio
  • As Vice President, Pichtonia would also try to push people out of their "cozy day-to-days" and provide mentorship

A Region UNLEASHED
  • Three months in the Frontier update, some tried-and-true regional policies need to change
  • The line between foreign and domestic affairs have blurred as different Ministers work together on cooperative goal (e.g. developing gameside community helps with regional security)
  • Despite this, the foreign affairs vs. domestic affairs binary remains. For example, President Adanna appointed separate Domestic Affairs and Foreign Affairs advisors.
  • Instead, we need the executive to "unleash" themselves and consider the overlap between the Ministries.
  • Chief of Staff position will help with this by coordinating inter-Ministry projects and initiatives. Acting as a conductor who keeps the government in harmony.
UNLEASH the strength of Commissions
  • As a region, we have a problem of committing to large projects that span teams or terms
  • JayDee wants to establish commissions that provide expertise and countinuity across different Presidential terms. An example of this would be the External Affairs Advisory Committee (EAAC) which has been around for years to advise Presidents on foreign policy.
  • Some of these commissions would be temporary (e.g. commission to create an API recruitment script) and some would be permanent.
  • There will be strict rules around these commissions to stop the from being too unwieldy, and JayDee will work with the Senate to ensure proper accountability
UNLEASH our Outreach and Integration Strategy
  • There are more exciting games out there than Nationstates.
  • That's why we need more recruitment drives and take players by the hand to show them everything we have here (even if it's not a typical mobile or PC game)
  • Don't want new members to feel like we are just checking boxes. Need to check in more about their experience.
  • Welcomers may still be assigned nations, but want the whole process to be more organic and inspired by people's interests (e.g. telegraming a new nation about the Senate if you are interested in the Senate)
  • We need to take nations by the hand in the process from joining/spawning in the region and joining the forum
  • Want to help with forum integration by having the Newcomer's Badge be a three step achievement that rewards incremental involvement in the region
  • President and Vice President will also dedicate themselves to integration. Also, all these efforts should also be applied to getting Delegate endorsements up.
UNLEASH our Gameside Policy
  • We've been doing better on gameside (aka Roleplay Council) but there's still a lot of room for improvement
  • Gameside-only nations have no clue about the mechanisms of our government or community
  • Keep doing Weekly News (maybe with more roleplay news) but can't have that just running on autopilot
  • Let's also keep working on our regional map, and maybe some stuff with cards too?
UNLEASH our Culture on the World Stage
  • Foreign policy has shifted from cultural relationships to security-based relationships
  • Want to refocus on cultural events, like the recent Olympics
  • Culture will be externally-focused next term, helping deepen relationships with old and new friends alike
  • Will host two multi-regional events as collaborations between Culture and Foreign Affairs Ministries
  • Ultimately, we need to keep reiterating that Independent is still framework of our foreign policy. With our entry into Aegis, it is just now through a defender lens.
  • Draw the distinction between Independence and Trumpian, "America First // Europeia First" ideas
  • Independence is meant to adapt, and that's what we've been doing
UNLEASH our Naval Might
  • We've made good strides in getting more citizens involved in the Navy
  • We want to expand that initiative, the Civilian Service, to do more (e.g. spotting invasions). They can also work with Communications and Radio Ministries to provide coverage of Naval events.
  • They can also help plan major naval events and wargames
  • This will free up time for the Grand Admiral and military staff to focus on the bigger initiatives like training or long-term missions
  • Sailors will also contribute to FA by getting to know military partners and their regions
UNLEASH our World Assembly Plan
  • World Assembly department is often lacking innovation — is it essentially a whole Ministry for IFVs
  • We should encourage nations on the Regional Message Board to get involved with discussions around WA proposals
  • World Assembly contributors will be recognized in Presidential addresses and in the World Factbook Entry
UNLEASH our Media
  • Too often we look at the EBC as just a regional newspaper (and Radio as the regional...radio)
  • In different Presidential terms, the focus can shift too rapidly between rapid response, quick hit articles, and longer-form, higher quality content. JayDee will do both, but with a focus on reinvigorating the quick hit news.
  • Want to work to reinvigorate the EBC Wire, and also strengthen the content collaboration between written content and radio content
  • Can use the media to generate buzz about other regional initiatives like events or military accomplishments
  • Must lower the barrier to entry for Radio as we invest in that team as a standalone Ministry again — find ways to get people excited and comfortable being on Radio
  • Should celebrate our regional content creators by sharing articles in the NSGP embassy and dispatches. Editors who help hone content should also be recognized.
Oversight
  • Oversight of the executive by the Senate should not be seen as "Us vs. Them" but "Us with Them"
  • Oversight is not a burden, it is a tool to strengthen the work of the executive
  • Will post weekly updates to keep people appraised of what is going on, and work collaboratively with the Senate to answer questions
Conclusion
  • JayDee and Pichtonia is exactly what the region needs!
  • Will capitalize on hard work of past administrations while noting that the transition to Frontier has left considerable cracks in our regional infrastructure.
  • Vote to Unleash the region!

Thanks for this series! I haven't had much time to do much of anything Euro lately

Throughout the upcoming election, ENN will be doing a sparknotes series,

I'm glad they lend it to the EBC, though 😅

Seriously: thanks for this series! Especially in an elections where platforms may have gone a little overboard (because we're all so excited!), this is a great addition to our media coverage of the election.
