The extraordinary story of an extraordinary Europeian

Few Europeians’ usernames describe their actions as well as the Venerable Writinglegend’s. But as the Republic’s longest serving president, one of the most ingenious naval commanders of Europeian history, and one of the most accomplished civil servants the regions’ successive governments have been blessed to employ decides “it is time to wave goodbye”, the EBC has decided to honour once more a citizen whose name ought to never fade from the memories of old and new players alike.
On March 17, Writinglegend created a thread in the Grand Hall named "Bowing Out". In a poignant speech he says "You need to know when it is of benefit to step aside for the greater good; this is that time.", adding that "I cannot be the leader to change this." "Everyone has a role to play in this community" the grand admiral said, before continuing "To the new generation of leaders who have made bold-action their symbol: remain committed to your truths and stay vigilant in ensuring that these truths beneficially progress our region. " He concluded his speech by announcing that " For now, however, it is time to wave goodbye and set things on auto-pilot. "
Digging up Writinglegend’s first post is not easy. After all, if you posted once a day it would take over 30 years to reach his current post count. But even when setting the clock back to May 26, 2014 and the arrival of a citizen named “A Dark God” , it can be understood the person also known as “writinglegend48” would be one active citizen. Here’s the first question he ever asked:

Applying is only the first Act of Writinglegend’s relationship with the now deceased Civil Service Officium (CSO). A week after applying for the Ministry of Communications Writinglegend wrote an EBC article on it.
But this was only the beginning. Writinglegend sought to question officials on the CSO for the EBC, and wrote the WANTED Act aiming to give a harder structure for the CSO.
On July 8, 2014, writinglegend48 (as he was still known) applied for active service in the Europeian Republican Navy and was accepted by erstwhile Grand Admiral Common-Sense Politics.
On July 20, 2014, Writinglegend ran for Senate, and lost. He ran for CA chair and lost. At the end of July Writinglegend rose to the Ministry of Culture as a result of Minister Zenny’s resignation. Serving a mighty nine-day term he was renominated for his first full proper Cabinet term by President Kraketopia for minister of Culture.
Writinglegend won a Senate General election in September 2014 and sat the first of his four Senate terms. In October 2014, President Malashaan re-nominated him for minister of Culture, and Writinglegend had no difficulty getting confirmed to serve some more time at the helm of the Ministry. Writinglegend’s three terms in Culture were crowned with success. Cards Against Humanity was run with great diligence and frequency, and special editions were made, such as an alien edition and one for Malashaan’s ovation. He also revived the Europeian Chess Club, run Town of Salem games and was overall not only active but proactive.
Maybe this “enthusiasm and energy that cannot go unnoticed” is what led President Mousebumples, renowned for her commitment to the Ministry of Interior, to appoint Writinglegend as minister of Interior. He had very little questioning and was easily confirmed by the Senate in the last days of December 2014.
In February 2015 Sopo and Writinglegend ran for president and vice-president on a joint ticket, and won, propelling Writinglegend into the Vice-Presidency for the first time.
In April 2015, the next logical step happened: Less than a year after arriving Writinglegend ran for president with Calvin Coolidge as vice-president. The Turtle/Panda duo was popular enough to land Writinglegend in Goldenblock for the first time in May 2015.Reflecting on those times, Calvin Coolidge remembers "I couldn't have asked for a better person to "grow up" with in this region than Writinglegend, it's been truly... legendary."
Writinglegend’s first term was marked by the Whitehall Conference of NS Universities to which Europeia attended, the 50th Senate celebrations, a State visit to the East Pacific, and the nomination of Pope Lexus X for an ovation.
The term was widely considered a success and Writinglegend earned a second term as president, marked by the signature of the Whitehall accords pursuant to the Whitehall conference, a Philosophical Symposium event, and general work towards keeping all Ministries active and well. This term was also widely recognised as good, and when Writinglegend and his vice-president Calvin Coolidge announced they’d run for another term they were widely supported, and indeed re-elected for Writinglegend’s third presidency.
Writinglegend’s third term was notable for the nomination of Kraketopia for a Triumph. At the end of his third time Writinglegend chose not to run for a fourth term, and left Goldenblock in December 2015 … only for some time …
Three days after leaving the Presidency, Writinglegend was nominated for his first grand admiral term by President Kraketopia, the very President who had nominated him to Culture a year and a half before. He was also nominated to the High Court as Associate Justice, and promptly rose to the position of Chief Justice.
Kraketopia’s successor, President Rylian/Trinnien, appointed Writinglegend for another term in the Octagon on St Valentine’s day of 2016. The grand admiral was faced with the Osiris coup and led the Navy with bravery and expertise. The very same president re-appointed Writinglegend to the High Court.
On April 21, 2016, President Trinnien requested that the Senate accept Writinglegend’s ovation, which it did, indicting the Venerable Writinglegend into the small club of Honoured Citizens before his second year in the region. In his request, Trinnien noted that "We should all endeavor to be as active and have a love for Europeia as WL does ".
Under President Calvin Coolidge Writinglegend served another term as grand admiral, where he distinguished himself by a series of humorous victory announcements underlining a poignant Naval culture and successful record. In July of 2016 President Trinnien nominated Writinglegend for a fourth term as grand admiral.
After only slightly less than a year leading the region’s navy, Writinglegend rose to the Presidency for the fourth time in September 2016. The term was marked by more foreign policy successes, notably the negotiation of a partnership with the United Kingdom, and A State Visit from the Kingdom of Alexandria. The president also oversaw the transition of eurochat from Skype to Discord.
In November Writinglegend was re-elected for a fifth presidential term, during which Europeia withdrew from the World Assembly Accords on Campaign Spam as the Treaty was not being respected by many signatories. The term was also rocked by the racist and homophobic stances of the Allied States leading President Writinglegend to announce Europeia would not be participating in the World Fair the Allied States was hosting. In January 2017 Writinglegend stood down from Goldenblock after completing a fifth successful term.
His successor, President Aexnidaral, appointed Writinglegend to the High Court where he once again occupied the seat of the Chief Justice, and to the Ministry of Culture.
In April 2017 Writinglegend was nominated minister of Foreign Affairs amidst the golden age of CAIN. He served in that position with the excellence that characterises every single one of Writinglegend's passages in Cabinet.
In June 2017, it happened again. Writinglegend became president for the sixth time and passed the symbolic line of 365 non-consecutive days of service in the office. Under his leadership the Navy celebrated its tenth anniversary. The Sixth term was no easy term, with many resignations and inactivity plaguing the government. Writinglegend proactively replied to the threat with a suggestions Box and more foreign affairs successes. When the term closed at the end of August 2017 Writinglegend had served 33% of his time in Euro as president.
Taking a step back, Writinglegend served as President Cat’s vice-president, but could not anticipate she would resign following a scandal between her and KoGB’s founder. Writinglegend was propelled to the big seat again, for the seventh time. This shortened seventh term saw the negotiation and signature of the Treaty of Marigold between Europeia and Kantrias. When Writinglegend completed his seventh term as President, he announced he would probably never sit in the Presidential Office again.
He did serve as a minister of Communications under President Brunhilde, and as minister for Culture (again!) under President Rach. When she resigned, Acting President Malashaan appointed Writinglegend as his vice-president. In March 2018, Writinglegend was nominated as the first Director of the Government Accountability Office (GAO). Indeed, for Writinglegend, retirement only ever was partial, and his service to the Cabinet never really ceased.
In May 2018 he became Attorney General under President HEM, shortly before the term ended. President Deepest House appointed Writinglegend to serve as grand admiral in June 2018. A position he occupied again under President Sopo in October 2018, where he saw the declaration of war against the New Pacific Order. Renominated to the office after Sopo’s re-election Writinglegend kept serving as Grand Admiral under President and Chief of State Kuramia and saw the victory of the ERN on the New Pacific Order.
Seven presidencies. Three Vice-Presidencies. Eight Commanderships as grand admiral. Four terms in the Ministry of Culture, and so many more in 25 Cabinet positions. The Venerable Writinglegend is undoubtedly one of Europeia’s grandest statesmen. But the one who was nicknamed Gleg and WL is also remarkable in his social interactions with the region, having hosted many games of Euro Survivor, one of Euro’s symbolic roleplays, as well as being (in)famous for his singing skills. In Sopo's words "Writinglegend is truly remarkable: from his crazy antics in Town of Salem, to his hilarious propensity for falling for pranks, to his steadfast leadership and hard work. I just can't speak highly enough of him "
Writinglegend is someone who always was close to retiring, but never really did, continuing to bless the region with his relentless service since May 2014. But on March 17, he announced he would be taking an extended leave. From a politician who never resigned from a single position and has always been so committed to the region, Writinglegend leaving the Office of the Grand Admiral and entering a time of well-deserved rest has brought many to congratulate him for his time in office. In his leaving thread, a communion of Europeians expressed their sadness and gratitude.
"Sorry to see you go Gleg." recombis said, followed by Chief of State Kuramia who declared "Your service in our region, and your presence in our community, is always loved! You take some time for yourself and Europeia will be here for whenever you're ready! People just like you will make sure of it, and they will surely have been inspired by your time here! ". HEM expressed in a sentence what many think: "There have been few public servants as impactful and passionate as you, Writinglegend." Overall, all Europeians stand in an awkward combination of melancholy and admiration as Writinglegend leaves.
Replacing him as grand admiral is the very person who registered him as a Midshipman about five years ago: Grand Admiral Common-Sense Politics was just confirmed by the Senate to continue serving the Europeian Republican Navy in a position he knows well.
This article started by declaring nobody had a username better describing their impact on the Republic than Writinglegend. In contrast, his avatars have been the opposite of what he has been. He was faster than a turtle could ever hope to be. Unlike the Eleventh Doctor Who, Writinglegend did not travel in time: he shaped it. Unlike the snorlax, Writinglegend never took the time to roll back and rest. Writinglegend retiring is the end of an era. As one of Euro’s most distinguished public servants, any Europeian is bound to think highly of Gleg. It can only be hoped that our memory of him will be as bright as his actions for the Republic.
There are little ways of appropriately expressing our gratitude to someone who has been so dedicated to Europeia they have served more presidential terms than anyone else, including over half of them after his ovation. Sure, Writinglegend carries the Order of Republica, the Order of Dedication, the Order of the Sapphire Star, the Order of Enlightenment, the order of the Bronze Star, the Order of Courage, and is a Companion of the Order of Fraternity of the Land of Kings and Emperors. But no amount of imagery and titles has stopped him, for Gleg was always aspiring to do better than ever before, and our region would be a very different place without him.
