The Last Journey - IC

As Draski sees the others in the ice room. Draski looks at them, stops crying, and sees them for who they are(according to him) "pathetic." he says, "They put two useless people up here? What are YOU two going to do? Survive?...HAHAHAHA, NO WE WILL ALL DIE HUMANITY WILL DIE JUST LET US GO OUT FIGHTING!... Sorry, I probably...I probably... shouldn't have said that...." he goes back to crying, he whispers to himself self "I've got to get a hold of myself."

Luxia smiles faintly and sits down next to Erin. "I'm Luxia. I'm this ships Optimist and since recently also our medical professional. And we wont die up here. I get why you might feel that. Every Crew member here has probably had the same thoughts you currently have. But I believe we will make it. Thats what makes us Humans so special. There is always a hope in us. A hope that Things will become better. And they will be. We will make it, I truly believe so. Now you may not agree with that and you dont have to. But I hope that you can agree that we need to try. Because the chance of us succeding may be small, but it is there. And if we die on the journey, then atleast we will have died with Hope." She hoped that that was a good thing to say. She is pretty bad at motivational speeches like these.
Andrew/Erin smiles faintly, yet still very sad, and a face still wet from the tears. They sniff a bit. "Okay... I'll take your word on this. I just... I wish I could get back to my old life again, with my family, to start one, to get my dream job... and, yeah, I guess humanity is pretty resilient. We've managed to survive two catastrophes on two planets... what can we not do, yeah?" They say that ending with great hesitation, uncertain of their own words. Andrew still feels a bit uncomfortable, and curls up into a ball, cradling themself. "You... probably want to know who I am, yes?"

Luxia smiles. "Yeah I'd like to know. We should get to know each other, we will be stuck together on this ship for the ext years after all." She siehst and looks out into space. "I wonder what life was like back before the catastrophe. I cant imagine it. I've never even stepped foot on a planet and living on one would be even more different. Maybe one of the others remembers. Some of them were probably frozen a long time ago." The Earth comes into view in the distance, a faint dot in the otherwise empty space. "I also wish I was able to live a different life. No one here wanted Things to go like they did. But sadly we cant revert time, so we have to work with what we were given by Fate."

Andrew/Erin hesitates, but soon says their name and stuff about them. "I..I...I'm...Andrew...but I also go as Erin. I, uh... don't really have a gender, so I have two names. Feel free to use either one..." They look at Luxia, still hesitant, but trying to calm down. “I'm a grad-student who was just about to get my dream job, but then... the whole, fusion thing happened... so then I got frozen, and now I'm here..." They sigh. "I still remember it so... vividly... everything." They sigh a moment. "Things on Earth were very nice, yes... I wish I could live there, have plants, a family, kids, jobs, a whole world of colour... but I guess we all were a bit late to it... if only we could get that life again..." A small wince comes out, understanding that this may be a wish that never gets granted, yet there is hope. They gently hold out their hand, asking cautiously, "Can I... maybe get a hug? I need comfort from... the nightmares I had in cryostasis..."

Luxias smile widens. "Of course." She says and proceeds to hug Erin. After a few seconds she lets go. "So you were Born on Mars? What was it like living on a planet? I know that the Colonies were probably similar to our space stations, but I still think there would be some difference. Like I said, I never got to step foot on a planet. All I've ever known is the artificial gravity of the stations." She looks at Andrew, curiosity gleaming in her eyes

Andrew/Erin holds onto the hug, feeling more relaxed after so much stress. This is what they needed. They sigh content, a sort of higher and softer pitch, and says “Yeah, life there was good. Not as nice as the photos and videos of Earth show, but it was nice while it lasted. To have real gravity too is nice, but the ship gravity’s also good. The lands were actually being terraformed, funny enough, trying to make a second Earth with whatever scraps were left of life. But the explosion did kinda… stop all progress and forced us to move on. I’m probably the only one born on Mars to remain since it’s been who knows how long since it was abandoned…” Erin looks out at the small pale dot, the Earth suspended in a sunbeam. “Do you think… we’ll ever find a planet like Earth again? Not just find, but also to maybe… live on?”

Luxia decides to be honest. "I really dont know." she says. "We are travelling fully into the unknown here and we dont know if we will find anything." She sighs and the smile Returns to her face. "But I do believe that we can do it. I have hope that we will succeed and find a new home for humanity." She got back up. "Now, can we go back to the freezing room? The Captain wants to explain our Plan to all of you and I really dont want to be too late." She chuckles and extends a hand for Erin to take

Andrew/Erin chuckles a bit, “yeah, let’s not be late.” They gently takes Luxia’s hand, smiling warmly, and standing up. “Please, lead the way Luxia.” They follow Luxia down the hallway, making sure to keep up the pace, and heads straight to the freezing room, waving with their free hand to the other people in there.

Hendrik nods at Felix and turns around towards some shelves. He start going though them one by one, trying to find a a blanket or something warm. Eventually he finds a small blanket next to some medical equipment. He then wraps the blanket around himself, which calms down his seemingly increasing condition which he just can't seem to remember, py-something, but he then turns his attention to the people infront of him.

For most all of the journey, Mikhail had said nothing. His silence was almost eerie.

As he stepped into the freezing room, the faint hum of the ship rung high. His boots dragged against the floor making loud clunks. The frost in his face caught the light. He looked at the others, some hopeful, some frightened and something in him almost stirred.

"Geographers," he muttered under his breath, his voice raspy. "Who else to send to chart... chart the wastelands?"

He tried to take another step, then he stumbled. His notebook slipped from his pocket and hit the metal floor with an awfully loud clap. Mikhail steadied himself against the wall, but he didn't have the energy in him to do so properly. "I haven't... slept properly" he said flatly, though it sounded more like an apology than an excuse. "And on the cold I-"

His mumbling stopped as he fell into a deep slumber.

Luxia arrived back at the Freezing room with Erin. She saw that the others were also all inside, but one of the newly awoken seems to have returned to the land of dreams already. She moved to him and carefully tried to shake the man awake. "Excuse me sir? Are you alright?" the man wakes up and mumbles something about being tired, but he does stay awake. Luxia turns to the others and claps her hands. "Well then, it's finally time for you to meet the captain and the Rest of the Crew. If you would please follow me." She walks out of the room. The others follow after a few seconds, Blake and Ryan behind to ensure no one runs away.
Erin walks next to Luxia. "So who is this captain fellow." they ask interested. Luxia smiles. "Oh he is great. He can be a bit bleak sometimes, but otherwise he is great." The group walks about a long staircase and into another hallway. This one is more fancy, clearly designed for someone rich to see. Though it clearly has seen better days and everything looks old. You wonder what kind of ship you are on. Why would the design be so fancy?
You walk through a door, into a salon like room. You see large blackened windows spanning from floor to ceiling before you. And beneath them is a large square table, with comfortable looking couches around it. 2 men are already sitting on the Table. One looks to be in his 30s, with pitch black hair, a resilient expression on his face. Next to him a slightly older man, maybe in his 50s, his red hair already turning grey. He looks a bit more friendly then the other man. One of them appears to be the captain. You wonder who of the two it is. The younger man speaks up, answering your question: "Hello everyone and welcome aboard the ship. I am the Captain, Forus Rat and I want to answer some of your questions. So first and foremost to get that out of the way..." he presses a button on the side of his chair and the windows behind him turn transparent, revealing the emptyness of space behind him. ".. you are in space. More spefically in Lagrange Point L2 in the Earth-Sun System. You are on a ship called the "Angels Wing" an old luxury cruiser. And as to why you are here, that story is a bit more complicated." He places his hands on the table. "To get to the point: We here in this room are the last people alive in the solar system. What happened to the rest is a long story, but to put it short some mistakes were made and the remainders of Humanity fled to find a new home.We were supposed to be on the last ship, but that also ended in disaster. Now our mission is simple. Leave this godforsaken system to find a new home for humanity elsewhere." he pauses, waiting for your reactions.

Andrew/Erin looks around the room, hesitantly approaching a small but comfy chair, and sitting down in it, crossing their legs, and paying close attention. As Captain Forus discusses the reason for being there, Andrew is a bit nervous. Due to an unexpected yet harmless malfunction in the cryostasis, Erin was conscious yet not able to move. They essentially were forced to relive their life, especially the hardship, in the form of never ending dreams until they were awoken. Another side effect is that the amnesia effect was cancelled, meaning that there had been plenty of time for Erin to refresh on history and what happened. Andrew, therefore, and shockingly, knows plenty about why they and everyone is here, and how this came to be. Upon Forus finishing his speech, Erin clears their throat, and says with a cautious yet semi-calm tone, “yes, I uh… have a very vivid recollection of what happened. So… another question, how are we going to be able to make it out of the solar system, heck, even past the Kuiper Belt, without either dying of age or losing power? Is there even a way?” Andrew then sits back on the chair, slowly rocking themself in nervousness, and hoping there is some way to find the next planet. While sitting here, a peculiar urge starts to come into their mind, one which hasn’t been thought of since before being frozen, one about their… secret. They cast this away in their head though, now is not the time to reveal anything. Again, they sit nervous, awaiting Forus’ response

Felix points at Erin/Andrew and says “I agree with them. We would need centuries worth of fuel, and would die before we even got past the asteroid belt. And unless you have some kind of supercomputer on board, we wouldn’t be able to keep the ship on a uninterrupted course without someone captaining, meaning we wouldn’t be able just use cryogenics, which we wouldn’t be able to do anyways because of the energy consumption I presume is required to keep them running. I suppose theoretically relativistic travel could solve the aging problem, but at near or faster than light speeds, if we’ve even achieved those, and even then that would disprove relativity, invalidating relativistic travel, we would get torn apart by asteroids and/or rocks that we couldn’t adjust course to avoid. There are just too many variables involved here. I suppose this is our last chance though, so is there anything else we should know, or is that all?”
He looks at Forus incredulously.

"Hello sir does this ship use antimatter?" Draski pauses, "I mean, I know that anti-matter propulsion is highly theoretical but this ship would be able to go at 99.999998% the speed of light, at least I think it's somewhere around that number." Draski then chuckles, "if you are that is highly expensive and dangerous, IF YOU ARE... we will all die."

Forus Turns to the man sitting next to him, who has been quiet so far. "Ethan, you can explain the technical Part better then me. Would you please?" The man, apparently called Ethan, nods and Turns to the group. "Hello, I am Ethan, an astrophysicist. So to answer your Questions: Yes there now exists Machinery that can Go faster then the Speed of light. Einsteins, I believe that was His Name, theory has been disproven in that regard some.time ago. Our Machines do Not use Antimatter, they Work with Tachyon Generaters and a Special Fuel, called Ostium. Now we dont know exactly how These Tachyons physically function a lot of knowledge got lost and the remainder is mostly Mechanical. So we know how the engine functions and how to operate it, we Just dont know the Physics reason as to why it works." He Takes a short Pause to Look around the room. "Asteroids are somewhat of a Problem, yes, so we can only use the engines after we passed the Kuiper Belt and we have to pause them when Passing parts of the Oort Cloud." He finishes His explanation and Looks Back to Forus. "Okay that was it for the Mechanical Part. What Else you need to know is that we need to make 2 more stops in the Solar System. One at Saturns moons to Pick Up a better Generator and food growing System and one at Janus to collect the Ostium Ethan mentioned." Ethan briefly Interrupts. "You probably wouldnt know Janus, it was discovered Just before the Collapse of Earth and Most of you were probably frozen before that." Forus Waits to See if Ethan is finished and upon confirming so, continues: "Once we have done those Things we can leave the System. So anymore questions?"

"Is Janus Planet 9?"

Andrew/Erin nods, still curled up in the chair, but now more relaxed. They’re fascinated by all of the new information, especially Einstein’s Relativity being edited in a way to make ftl speeds possible. “Fascinating… I do remember learning about Janus when I was young. I was born and lived on Mars, so I both remember a lot more and was probably frozen for a much shorter time span. So… I guess I don’t have many questions aside from two basic ones: One, what sort of work do I and these other people have to do? And two: are there rooms we can stay in or are we just going to be sleeping in the cryostasis pods again?” They look over to Forus, and then at Luxia, wondering what the situation of living will be on this ship

"No, Janus is more like a dwarf Planet. Its a solid Planet, not a gassy one." Ethan responds to Draski.

Luxia decides to answer Andrews Questions. "You do whatever work is needed. We are currently working on creating or restoring Data. Like Ethan said a lot of data got lost over time and we are trying to restore atleast some of it, by doing Experiments or observations. And there us usually always something that can be worked on with the ship. It is quite old." She pauses. "As for sleeping, dont worry we have that covered. This is an opd cruise ship after all, there are a lot of commodities on Board." An idea crosses her mind and her face brightens with excitement. "I could give you guys a Tour later. Wouldnt that be fun?"

"no, absolutely not." Draski pauses "I need to be studying physics, MAM."

Andrew/Erin smiles a bit, “yeah, I suppose a tour of this place wouldn’t hurt later.” They then think for a moment, remembering something after the comments of lost data. Erin hesitates before they say softly and hesitantly, “uhhh…. I think I may have something to help with this data thing. It probably won’t work for the intended purpose, but… there is something that could help us perhaps.”
