[Special Report] The West Pacific Elects New Speaker, Guardian

The West Pacific Elects New Speaker, Guardian
Written by Kazaman

Last week, on April 27, The West Pacific held elections for two key positions in its Hall of Nations, a body consisting of all citizens which acts as an advisory body to the Delegate's government. The positions filled in the election were Speaker of the Hall of Nations and Guardian of the Hall of Nations, with Zoran winning the speakership and United Adaikes becoming Guardian after a brief campaign period. Elections for these positions occur every three months.

Zoran ran on a platform to improve the transparency and activity levels of the Hall of Nations, with the Speaker partaking in regular Q&A sessions. He also promised to improve access to education about the region's history. Among other things, the Office of the Speaker is responsible for scheduling and moderating debates and votes in the Hall of Nations and administering elections.

United Adaikes' campaign for Guardian focused on cooperation with Delegate Dilber, the Guardians of the West, and the Speaker. The Guardian of the Hall of Nations is a junior executive role, and the only such role that is not appointed directly by the Delegate. Its activities emphasise gameside outreach, which was reflected in United Adaikes' campaign promises to raise awareness of RMB posting standards and improve The West Pacific's responsiveness in updating citizenship rolls.

Both candidates won their races handily, with Zoran securing 50% of the vote against Fhaengshia (34%) and iOctagon (16%), while United Adaikes secured 47% of the vote against Varanius (38%), Fhaengshia (9%), and Zoran (6%).

The West Pacific has an autocratic form of government where the Delegate chooses their own successor unilaterally. The Speaker and Guardian of the Hall of Nations are the highest elected officials in the region.
