On May 4, Human Resources Director Lime of NSToday (NationStates Today) posted a notice for the NSToday quarterly Governor Election. The previous Governor Elections were held in December of 2020. After a charter amendment was passed in January 2021, an external Governor by-election was called, delaying the recent May elections by one and a half (1.5) months.

Standing opened alongside the notice, with voting starting on May 11 and ending on May 13. There were 4 seats available for the internal Governors, a position limited to staff members of NSToday, and 2 seats for external Governors, a position open to anyone except serving members of the Executive Board or Editorial Team.

For clarification, according to NSToday's Charter, Governors are the oversight body of the organisation "who shall hold the power to define overall policy, appoint and dismiss executive staff, review appealed complaints and resolve disputes regarding the interpretation of this Charter. Furthermore, the Governors may pass policy establishing committees appointed by it empowered to act with some or all of its powers."

The internal and external Governors appoint a Chairperson from the members of the Board of Executives, who will then chair all the Governor meetings and serve as the most senior member of the Executive Board. The Board of Executives, also referred to as the Executive Board or simply Board, is comprised off all senior executive staff members, as defined by the Chairperson.

When voting was due to open, the exact number of candidates had run for the number of available positions, resulting in the automatic acclamation of every position.
Nationific and Peeps were elected as external Governors, while Aav, Istillian, Precoixious, and Quebecshire were elected as internal Governors. Aav, Peeps, and Precoixious had already served as Governors during the previous term.

The elected Governors were then faced with their first task, appointing a new Chairperson. After 11 days of deliberation, Lime, the incumbent Human Resources Director was chosen as the new Chairperson of NationStates Today.
On June 7, Lime announced that the Governors had unanimously approved his newly-proposed Board. Somyrion continues to serve as Chief Executive Officer, while their other role as Chief Publishing Officer has been abolished. he position of Chief Content Officer would be taken over by Lime after it had recently been vacated by Llo, while Istillian would fill in Lime's previous position of Human Resources Director.
Finally, Deputy Relations Director Monkey was promoted to Director taking over from Prarie as Public Relations Director, while Aav would continue to serve as Chief Technology Officer.
