Reprisal: Voices Clash Over Roleplay Recognition and Regional Engagement

Reprisal: Voices Clash Over Roleplay Recognition and Regional Engagement
Written by @m88youngling (Lunar Remnants)

Tensions have finally come to a halt Saturday evening between a coalition composed primarily of Europeian citizens and the Europeian government. Composed of seven citizens and two non-citizens, at least four of the people who made up this coalition have fled the region after voicing a number of complaints this week across several forum threads. This region, Valdoria, has been alleged to be a source of illegal recruitment on the Europeian regional message board, one example of which is known to have occurred on the 13th.

On April 6th, President Grea Kriopia delivered her midterm State of the Republic address on EBC radio. However, following posting a copy of the address to the forum, the President was met with outrage from Steium, a then Europeian citizen.

Oh wow, what a tale! Apparently, Sky single-handedly resurrected the entire Europeian Roleplay region. Someone call the Nobel committee.

Steium alleged that they and others had been misattributed in the President's address; their contributions to the region's roleplay and regional message board had gone unrecognized.

This generated a great deal of debate over the course of the following week, leading the President to create a new thread titled Euro's On-Site / Off-Site Relationship in Grand Hall. The President invited Europeians to contribute their thoughts on how to better attribute credit to citizens regardless of what platforms they participate on.

Senator @HEM took it upon himself to draft a Senate resolution to commend nine people for their contributions. He subsequently shared this draft in the thread and asked for feedback from the parties involved. One of the citizens named in the resolution, Pichvi, expressed approval of the resolution. Senator HEM subsequently submitted the draft to the Senate on Thursday to begin the legislative process.

However, on Saturday, April 12th, in a People's Assembly discussion thread observing the progress of the Senate resolution, Renegade Duchies, relayed a message to the thread on behalf of Steium, Atlas-Preussen, Haunover, and Aleutria as cosigners. The message was a full rejection of Senator HEM's commendation proposal and labeled the resolution as "reactionary", a fear that had been expressed by several other Europeians leading up to the coalition's response. However, the coalition's message did not propose any alternative action.

This generated a frustrated reaction from Senator HEM, who immediately withdrew the proposal from the Senate floor. Other Europeians shared criticism of the coalition's response, upset that there were no suggestions for what to do instead. People's Assembly Chair @m88youngling (Lunar Remnants) attempted several times to contact the coalition to assist with the development of pre-legislation, but these attempts were met with cryptic, Latin proverbs from Steium.

Finally, just after 7:00 PM EST Saturday, Atlas-Preussen, Haunover, Steium, and Renegade Duchies all left Europeia around the same time. Although Renegade is working to preserve their citizenship in Europeia with another nation, it seems this is the end of the line for a tumultuous week for Europeia's gameside.

i will have more to say on this topic soon but as hem already said this is a solid recap of a disappointing week

It's heartily crushing to watch a year of progress towards convincing off-site Europeians that the onsite region deserves to be treated with greater care, wholly undone by a group of immature children with chips in their shoulders. It will take at least a further year to undo the damage done to the perception of the Ministry of Gameside Affairs, which now risks looking like it exists solely to cater to morons who will inevitably wind themselves up into delusional fits of incandescent rage.

It's consoling, however, that these people know next to nothing about running a region. Most if not all of them will lose interest in NS as their region withers and dies, and they will depart this site for good within 6 months.

💙 For what it's worth, I'm endeavoring to be more involved on gameside going forward.

but these attempts were met with cryptic, Latin proverbs from Steium.
Don't really release these, probably be in bad taste, but I still want to kind of read and try to decipher them.

To honor your request not to release anything directly, I have seen them share one short phrase in public, particularly on the RMB when they left the region and in profile posts.

Oh, thanks! A quick search shows his last post was quoting the 3 musketeers. But that's French so maybe they were using the way Shakespeare first did...or Switzerland. Hard to tell.

That saying completely denies the existence of a whole subset of people just out there having fun!

No, no you're right! The original is Latin. Dumas translated to French for his Three Musketeers. So I assume the Latin origins of Shakespeare are meant here, but the Shakespeare version isn't a version that's a call to unity or action. So that's why I'm confused.
