Our Relationship with Kantrias
A 3-year Look Back

October 24th, 2015, brought with it some dismaying news to the region of Europeia, for it was announced that the three-year alliance with the region of Kantrias was at an end. Kantrias, a region founded by Cerian Quilor, was a region of great influence to us militarily, with our gameside relations in other endeavors, with the strengthening of our Foreign Affairs resolve, and in many events shared between the two regions before it's reign was ended with Cerian Ceasing to Exist (CTE) in Nation States.
Before any sort of alliance between Kantrias and Europeia, the King and Founder of Kantrias, Cerian Quilor, was a politically active member of our region. Not only did he engage in Europeia through its military and foreign affairs, but he also wrote many stories in the Writer's Block section of the forums, even winning awards and regaling everyone with Nation States fanfiction. After founding Kantrias, he spent some time building up the region's government, all the while still an active participant in Europeia politically. He posted on the forums requesting an embassy in Europeia on November 9th, 2012. The next year, an alliance between the two regions was proposed, but before diplomatic negotiations for a treaty with Kantrias could occur, it was vital that regional interests and positions were noted to determine the benefits of such an alliance. Agreeing upon the terms, a treaty was sent to the Senate on April 4th. Soon after the region agreed that they would all benefit from an alliance with Kantrias, and on April 22nd, it was ratified.
Kantrias supported Europeia in raids on numerous occasions, including the conquests of Secularia, Avalon, 4Chan Party Van, and Axis Dictatorship. Prior to his embassy and subsequent alliance with Europeia, he had been a leader in the ERN. More specifically, Cerian was the Grand Admiral of the ERN, sending out many successful campaigns in Europeia's name. It was only natural then that an alliance with his region would lead to a strengthening of both the military of Europeia and of Kantrias. Cerian certainly had the knowledge and experience needed to advise and assist in any military endeavors of either region.
Kantrias had a solid mission statement, supported by their own symbol, the gavel and sword. While the gavel represented their justice beliefs, the sword represented their ability to uphold those justice beliefs. As Cerian has been quoted in a Kantrias newspaper article, "[...]it also represents the values of Kantrias - Orderly, Stable Democratic Rule at home and a Strong, Assertive and Aggressive foreign policy". It is the sword and gavel which led King Cerian to agree on never joining the Free Regional Alliance or the United Defenders League, both of which supported defender foreign affairs policies in opposition to Europeia's and Kantrias'.
Of course, it goes without saying that Kantrias would influence our Foreign Affairs, but not just because they were an ally we had a treaty with. Cerian was also, before the treaty was brought forth, the Minister of Foreign Affairs. It was through his aid that our policies on Foreign Affairs, the guidelines by which we treat other regions and wish to be treated ourselves, was established and given voice. Before him, we knew what our ideas and concepts were, but they had not yet been written down to be kept for prosperity's sake. Now, located openly in the Ambassador Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, his definition of Independence and what it means to a Nation State's region stands proudly as a reminder of his influence on our own Foreign Affairs.
On May 23rd, to celebrate the newly-founded alliance, the Ministry of Culture from both regions held a Kantrias-Europeia festival. Part one of the festival was held in Kantrias on their forums while part two was held in Europeia. There were spam games, writing contests, a hurt/heal event, and an arcade contest. The two festivals aided the region's members in getting to know one another, fostering not only recognition but respect. As Malashaan stated in his opening address to the Europeian portion of the festivals, "Our regions may be different in many ways, but these differences help our relationship to prosper. [...]Both Europeia and Kantrias have great communities and are wonderful regions to be in." The festivals were lauded as successes and cemented the relationship of the two regions.
In October 24th, due to the inactivity in the region, Kantrias was invaded by the regions of the Kingdom of Great Britain and Asgard. As per the statutes set forth in the Europeia-Kantrias Treaty of Friendship, Europeia agreed to "[...]collaborate militarily for the combined benefit of both regions, including provision of defensive military assistance to the greatest practicable extent in case of an attack". President Writinglegend responded to the invasion by assuring Europeia that action would be taken, stating, "Albion, Land of Kings and Emperors, and [Europeia] have deployed in order to endorse the native founder." Sure enough, the battle was won. "Asgard has pulled out," President Writinglegend confirmed, "I, as well as LKE and Albion, are confident this will result in a victory insofar as keeping the native delegate secure in his position." Even with President Writinglegend issuing a repeal for the Europeia-Kantrias Treaty of Friendship the next day, Grand Admiral Kraken opined, "[...]we will not allow the memory of a friend to be trampled upon by opportunists". Despite leaving our region, Kantrias managed, one last time, to unite Europeia under a common banner in their name.
While Kantrias may no longer exist - for now - the region and its rich history should never be forgotten because the region had a direct impact on Europeia's own affairs and growth. Common-Sense Politics exemplifies this by remarking, "I think it's important that someone acknowledges that Kantrias, from top to bottom, was representative of a great ally. They were responsive, cooperative, and able. I am sad to see them fall victim to history, and I hope we don't forget how well they stood beside us". Europeia and Nation States is dimmed by the loss of such a great region and people, but as long as we hold a place for them in our history, they will never be truly past recollection.
