This term in Europeia has been an exciting and controversial one. From the loss of the recruiting system to the battles between the President and the Senate to the recent referendum and Attorney General battle, and, finally, to this explosive election/campaign season, no one can deny that it's been like a roller-coaster ride.
But one issue seems to have come to dominate recent events: The supposed revelation that a newcomer to Europeia, Aexnidaral, is a notorious interregional criminal, with a record of porn-spamming, among other things. Emphasis here? Supposed.
The reaction in the region was, at first, shock and relief. Many comments were "Thank you, Anumia and HEM and Lethen for acting quickly and decisively", or something similar. As time has gone by, assertions continued to be made. One thing that was noticed was a lack of evidence. Claims and charges were made, but on the basis of word alone. And it turned out that, in other regions, Aexnidaral was saying he was innocent, pushing for a trial, an interregional tribunal, some way to prove his innocence.
And that's where it all came to a head.
President Falconias released a statement stating that Aexnidaral did nothing wrong, and that he should have his status restored in full. Supreme Chancellor HEM came, and before you knew it there was a smack-down, full-out verbal brawl between the two of them.
This Europeian Observer writer has this to say: You both came out of that looking bad. The comments and claims made were damaging both to each of you, and to the region.
And, following that up, this writer asks: Who is in charge? It is known that HEM and Lethen and Anumia were involved, and it appears that the first two are leading the investigation. But it is unclear. Should the President have been notified? Maybe, maybe not. Also unclear. What is going on? It is currently unknown what the status of things are. Many times it was heard that North East Somerset had the information proving Aexnidaral was involved. However, it has also been claimed that he will not be providing a report and/or the evidence needed. Why not? Also unclear. And, picking up from there, where is the evidence? I've seen evidence supplied by Aexnidaral, although I will admit to not having inspected it closely. I will post those images to let you see for yourself. Who else has seen the evidence supposedly proving that Aexnidaral was involved? Have the Admins seen all or any of the evidence? Also unclear. Was the process of banning Aexnidaral correct? At first, many said yes. Now? Unclear.
As it currently stands, this writer is confused, and wants to know what the hell is going on. I have refrained from taking any one side because neither side has, in my opinion, proven that they have solid evidence.
However, I have concerns, some of which are probably shared with other citizens:
1) How will this affect our relationships with other regions? The Kodiak Republic is where this writer first heard and saw Aexnidaral bring up his innocence. Senior government officials there have questioned the process and how Europeia operates. It is almost certain that there are other regions who have similar qualms. It is also certain that there are other regions who feel very strongly that we shouldn't be backing off of Aexnidaral, and that he is what others said he was: a notorious criminal, friend and accomplice to other notorious criminals.
2) Where do we go from here? This writer saw words that will be very hard to walk back from, both from the President and the Supreme Chancellor. How can we citizens know what will happen?
3) Legally, this appears to be in murky waters. Do we have a trial? Should we have a trial? What crimes can he officially be charged with? Who will prosecute? Who will defend? Will a foreign attorney be allowed to represent Aexnidaral, or will he even represent himself?
With these questions, and more, this writer warily turns towards the Presidential debate, the Senatorial and Presidential campaigns, and the other issues pressing down on the mind.
