NEW PART 4: The Year Europeia Grew The Fuck Up (And The President Who Helped)

Part 4 where art thou
The election has distracted me, but I will not fail this project like I have so many others. Maybe I'll slam fourteen diet cokes this weekend and crank it out.

begging you to drink some water
diet coke is 99% water which if you think about it makes it healthier than drinking water because if you drink too much water you might die.

Hello, hello, hello! With great apologies on the delay (but excitement) the new installment has been added to the OP.

Nlhp's Presidency is now over, but I have decided that the story of 2008 really goes through the Presidency of Pez201, so there will be one final part to come. Hope everyone enjoys!

Love this series! I knew about the "Abstain for President" campaign, but the added context was really interesting.

I must ask, after reading Part 4: do you think this piece has led to a full re-evaluation of nlhp's career in the region? I feel like it has for me, and in a way that's more expansive than simply ranking his Presidency versus others from that year.

It's hard to say, because I would need to do more research on the rest of his career fully. So much of this has been me reminding myself of things and putting it in the proper context without lionizing me and you (which, is an unfortunate tendency that colors a lot of my earlier historical work).

The whole thing is interesting because, prior to his Presidency, you wouldn't have necessarily anticipated the resilience and patience that Nlhp exhibits in his administration. He ragequit the region like, two or three times, due to falling outs with Lord Alphanesia and Paleomiz. He had a strong term as University Dean that maybe opened a window into his skills as a consensus-builder and encourager, but otherwise was a pretty average if not below average politician in the region.

A year later, Nlhp will resign as Chief Justice about getting criticism over a court decision and this marks the beginning of the end of his primary political career (he will retire and unretire a few times before fading away in mid 2010). If anything, it feels like the Presidency gave him an opportunity to shine and he really felt called to live up to that. It probably helped that he was able to balance interests and wasn't really the center of any heavy political fire during his term (aside from Solimaria, who nobody really stood behind).

The final part I will try to have a bigger conversation about styles of Presidential leadership and what Nlhp brought to the table, but a little bit of this might've been him being at the right place at the right time. I mention it in the last section, but there's an extent to which the region just...needed someone who wasn't (1) me or you but also; (2) wasn't someone inherently obstructionist to us. But Nlhp filled that specific void, and *THEN* was also able to make the most of shifting sands and circumstances.

Thank you!! I would pay serious money to have all the MSN logs around this time, because I am sure there is even more forgotten context.

Nlhp getting a glow-up for their resume from HEM was not on my bingo board this year. I have loved this series.
