NEW PART 4: The Year Europeia Grew The Fuck Up (And The President Who Helped)

About Audux: Is it weird that I don't remember my appointment as our ambassador to Audux? Maybe it's because I blocked out such an event from my memory.
I think it ended up being pretty brief. Within a few weeks, we closed embassies.
RM was probably “King Cordova I” to take a jab at me. I was not his biggest fan, to say the least. RM was overambitious, his reach exceeding his grasp.
I mentioned this on Discord, but I actually did some research: BR definitely used the moniker "King Cordova" in The New Inquisition prior to running into you (or at least having a bad opinion of you). You joined TNI as an ambassador under the username "Europeia's Cordova" and he warmly greeted you there. Either flattery, or a very odd coincidence.

I will say: I think the big reason RM/BR ultimately got run out of Europeia the first time was him blatantly importing voters (i.e. either him astroturfing random friends, or just creating clone accounts). Him announcing his Foreign Secretary ambitions was seen in very poor taste, and set the stage for him souring on us (and us on him) but I also think that was a bitttt of an overreaction. He never said, "I want Cordova to get the sack" just expressed that he aspired for the role. And, ironically, he probably could've had it had he not gone around the bend, seeing as you retired not long after!

To be honest, we may have all dogpiled a little bit because he was already leaving a bad taste in our mouths. Just one thing after another.
I know you didn't touch on this specifically in this piece, and it's certainly something we've talked to death over the years, but I just want to remind everyone that early Europeia was comprised almost entirely of players who were involved in Empires of Earth, The New Inquisition, the Land of Kings and Emperors, and/or Great Britain and Ireland. Those four regions were all at different stages in the realm of NS game-play, but they were all also relatively close allies. They also had many off-shoots that encouraged a lot of cross-polinization of players, e.g., colonies, regions founded by citizens, regions who were rebelling or split off from their original region. Of course, a lot of those players then lured other players to their regions...including Europeia. HEM was quite active in the LKE and nominally in EoE; barely active in TNI or GB&I. I started my NS career in GB&I, and I was fairly active in TNI - likely where I had my longest tenure outside of Europeia. I was less active in EoE and the LKE, or at least my activity was more in spurts of interest.
Yessss! I have written quite a bit in the past about our connections with LKE, but there were definitely synergies with the other regions too. TNI was our closest military ally, and I think we exported a lot of our "higher brow" political culture from GB&I. You might not think there's much here at all that is "high brow" but in comparison to the LKE, Europeia is already on a maturation track.
Are we the consolation prize? Do you know what prize means?
LOL i guess we were the consolation pain.

But in seriousness, it says a lot about the state of the region that Nlhp pretty much had to load his Cabinet with Blue Conservatives. There really wasn't a possible functional Cabinet without you and I.
See above re: GB&I. I wasn't just upset because it was my domain as Foreign Minister. I was upset because it was my original home region and, for better or worse, I knew a lot more of the players and had a better feel for the place. At least I'm sure that was my logic at the time :p
I am sure the fact that GB&I was your home region added an extra emphasis on your indignation, but I was also being extremely obnoxious in trying to be at the center of everything.
East Pacific? Or was that later...
You're getting ahead of yourself!!!! But yes, that is coming.
Oh shit what a lowkey stacked line-up
Yes, pretty much all the MVPs through summer 2009 have been introduced already!
Also in hindsight I feel like this is a great return on 50 nations for 2007
Integration was always a lot easier under 100 nations even back in the day, and I bet that's even more true today with Discord. We did especially well with our strategic member poaching, too :p

I was in Empires of Earth, but I can't remember if I joined there or Europeia first. Either way - Solorni and I were allies there, unlike here.

Yea Audux, that was.... something else indeed. Looking back now and trying to do Empires of Earth, Europeia and Audux, not the wisest thing. But at least Europeia had a proper forum admin that wasn't thrown to fits of rage.

I always forget that she was involved in other regions within the "LKE-sphere" besides Europeia

We were tasked with holding things down, while a bunch of prima donnas marched around needing their egos stroked to just log-in, stick around, and make a few posts -

This has got to be my favorite quotation so far. It's phrased in such a spot-on and hilarious way! It actually does accurately describe a lot of colorful characters back then! 🤣

I am glad some people are picking up on a few of my rhetorical flourishes haha!

My goal is to give a lot of the old guard credit for being able to keep things running, while also applying a new level of scrutiny to the lionization or mythologizing of us back then (particularly Lethen and I).

Nlhp's Presidency is a solid framework to examine that through, because of his role as a conciliator in between the different coalitions and contours of the region.

Audux was founded by a player who went by many names. In late 2007, he had been a member of Europeia under the name “Royal Mayorga” but was also known as “Ferdinand Lennox”, “William Aston”, “Royal Aston” and strangely and briefly, as “King Cordova I”.

IIRC Aston always talked a big game (sound familiar?) but when it came to delivering just always fell short. I remember during my first term as Reich Chancellor in TNI so 2010 that he was always sparring with Wully, Josh, Ty, Michael Somerset aka MichaelTheGreatMan and Crist Seymour aka Aex. There were a few times he would also engage with GNB aka GunNuttyBuddies who was our longtime Interior Minister which led to him using racist dog whistles particularly against Westerners which was odd because he was from Spain/Portugal which led to a massive fall from grace especially after LordJetBlack and Jewlaw, both established members in their own right called him out for it.

He was definitely a very complicated person. I certainly got along with him better as time went on (particularly during his career in Empires of Earth, which was decent). He popped back into Europeia back in 2020 to say hello and didn't stay long, but came across as a perfectly fine adult. I hope he grew up and is doing well now.

HELLO EVERYONE! Sorry for the delay, a drama-filled and meaty part 3 has just dropped in the OP.

I was always surprised that Euro didn't join ACCEL
I think we were too late to the boat. By the time we had matured enough to consider it//be considered, ACCEL was already dead (aka even in the SRATO discussions there were people mentioning ACCEL as an example of a failed super-alliance)

wow NLHP, you are / were truly a prodigy. Impressive stuff! Keep those coming HEM
