So, in years past I've run an American Election roleplay where folks roleplay as a political candidate running for the Presidency.

You make speeches, respond to random events, and generally we roleplay through the primary process and have never gotten through the full election.

Anyone who has played a traditional gov sim like AGS, it's very similar though MUCH less work.

Previous iteration is here (LINK).

Would anyone be interested in doing this?

Looks like the old version is archived, can't see it.

I think I could be down -- so, we would be role-playing as the candidate? Trying to mimic what they would do?
Or free to elaborate as we feel would best suit the "ideology" or "tone" of the character?

Yes! You'd be a candidate running for election. The roleplay would be mostly defined by events you hold, ads you write, and how you respond to random events that I as the moderator would introduce!

The roleplay would be fun in that ideology would certainly play a role, but outlandish candidates could potentially do well. If there's an interest among people, I'll start working on a formula to determine how people will "win" or "lose" primary states.

Main two parties only? ?

NVM, I think I might want to run as Joe Manchin or Jim Webb, some sort of Centrist spoiler candidate in the Dem Primary.

Also, once the primaries are over, would the defeated candidates be able to "stump" for our candidate of choice in the main election?

Yeah, for sure!

I honestly need to think about how to do the General Election so multiple people can still keep playing.

I'm excited there's an interest here though!

Well, for one -- the winner of the primary would pick another person to be their VP, automatically having 4 total people on the main two tickets.

Other primary "losers" could then sort of sign on to whichever campaign they want to throw their weight behind and continue speech-ing it up from there, adding their "speech points" to the party candidate instead of their own primary campaign. Or something like that?

Or there could theoretically be a 3rd party ticket sort of like Ross Perot, included in all the debates and things.

Given how many people have participated in RPs in Euro before, having 4 main party candidates P/VP (+ maybe a third party ticket if enough people), plus some party supporters from the losing primary candidates -- I think there's plenty of opportunity for the primary losers to continue role-playing.

And the winning ticket could appoint some of their side's supporters as cabinet members, etc. in the finale.
