Hello, everybody! And welcome to the Almond Shell, where together, we are going to explore the wonders of uhm...
Uhhhh....
Whatever I feel like, I guess.
The purpose of this article is to give an introduction to this newsletter, what its purposes are, and what I'm actually going to write about.
Firstly, as I’m a relative outsider to Europeian politics (and real life politics), do not expect political reviews here. I repeat, do not expect political reviews here! I joined Europeia for a summer 2 years ago and then left to finish my last 2 years of school before I venture off into the great wide world of maybe-university. As such, I will be the first to admit that my experience in Europeia is minimal. While I am interested in writing on current affairs in Europeia, providing a (relatively) newcomer’s perspective, I am also firmly aware that I probably shouldn’t talk about politics considering I’m too British to understand what a Senate is, and still don’t understand the function of a “chance celery”.
TLDR; Don’t expect anything related to Europeian politics for a while.
Anyway, as somebody who is at the tail end of around 15 years of school looking back onto an institution that has dominated my life for 6 hours a day, 5 days a week, only one question comes to mind:
What useful things did I learn from school?
I mean, will I ever use differentiation in my life? Will Floyd’s algorithm help me pay taxes? Will the PETAL paragraph structure ever be used? Especially English, I mean, what did learning Romeo & Juliet give me except an unhealthy case of screaming at the book for two hours straight? An Inspector Calls only gave me a healthy dose of socialism and a fanfic idea. And Jekyll & Hyde made me want to cry my eyes out (great plot, but I'd rather watch paint dry than read the actual book).
In hindsight, that point is kinda moot, because it gave me the main purpose for this channel! While analysing another Shakespeare play where the main characters make dumb choices is slightly entertaining, I am expanding my horizons in analysis to my own personal choices. As some people might know, I am a huge fan of Indian (and South Asian) cinema, especially Bollywood! And part of the reason I love this area of cinema is that it has a lot of themes and topics that make the movies so much more interesting to watch. As such, the main purpose of this newsletter is to write semi-formal reviews on these movies, and try and introduce Europeia to a new form of cinema, while also giving my old Head of Year vindication after I said to her over the phone that writing film reviews was a waste of my time (It was 2020).
While South Asian cinema reviews will very likely be the main thing I post here, I refuse to limit myself to only posting that, because that takes the fun out of writing (and also I should probably write about Europeia since we all live here, and we all absolutely love this region, God bless). So other topics will most likely be coming up in the not-so-distant future, ranging from articles on Europeian culture events (because they're amazing), to Further Mathematics lessons (because I need to vent my frustration).
As for where I will be hosting this newsletter, all copies will be posted both as a dispatch in NS and on the Europeian forums. The only real difference between each article will be formatting, as NS is very weird with it, but the content will remain the same!
I hope you enjoyed exploring the wonders of the Shell! Feel free to comment and give any feedback or criticisms, or telegram my nation and be sure to reenter the Shell for more articles!
To end with a quote:
