[Inside Government] Senate Mid-term Satisfaction Poll Results and Analysis October 2021

Senate Mid-term Satisfaction Poll Results and Analysis October 2021
Written by Istillian

With the 80th Senate of Europeia handling issues as big as the outcome of the most recent presidential election, and with healthy debate on several now passed bills recently coming to the desk of the president, the Europeian Broadcasting Corporation (EBC) conducted a poll questioning the region’s satisfaction and thoughts on this Senate term so far. The poll opened on September 30, and closed on October 2, with a total of 25 responses.

Overall Satisfaction - 52%

Overall senate satisfaction sits at a relatively average rating, with fifty two percent of poll respondents expressing satisfaction with the current performance of this term, one comment specifically reporting that despite some of the excitement in the senate, this term was "relatively business as usual." The thirty six percent of not satisfied poll respondents seemed to suggest that this term wasn't as active as it could have been, and some disapproval on how the Gameside Act (2021) was handled. However, we're sitting at just after the mid-term for our senators, meaning that there is still time to improve on both activity, and handling of bills.

Individual Senator Satisfaction

Speaker Lloenflys - 80%

Senate Speaker Lloenflys achieved a high eighty percent approval from poll respondents, the highest of any senator from this poll. While this a drop in overall satisfaction from the outcome of the end of term senate satisfaction poll, comments suggest that even though Lloenflys had a busy time running as a presidential candidate, he is still performing admirably in a role familiar to him. While one commenter responded that there was "nothing of note to say", it seems that the presence and guidance of the speaker has the public satisfied.

Senator Peeps - 68%

Senator Peeps returns a decent sixty eight percent approval rating, with some mixed comments noting some disagreement with Peeps' position on things, which may explain why the approval here isn't higher; although one thing is clear to poll takers, and that's that this senator has a clear agenda, and is actively driven to push their promised initiatives forward.

Senator Kazaman - 56%

Senator Kazaman attained a fifty six percent approval rating, with some commenters querying if Kazaman has worked on anything at all promised in his original platform. Other feedback seems somewhat mixed, with one poll respondent expressing that Kazaman hasn't been around enough as a leader, whereas another comment seemingly very satisfied with Kazman's performance, expressing that they have been "pleasantly surprised" with his term so far. It seems that respondents are looking for more from Kazaman before the end of the term.

Senator Darcness- 56%

Senator Darcness received the same overall satisfaction rating as Senator Kazaman of fifty six percent, again with similar comments from respondents such as: "Have they worked at all on what they said they would in their platform?" Positively for this senator though, is that comments seems to suggest approval at Darcness' critical eye, and while he has been less active than they had hoped for, critiquers do seem to feel that he is engaged in discussions.

Senator Sincluda - 72%

For his first time being elected into the senate Senator Sincluda attained a solid seventy two percent approval rating, the second highest rating on this poll for the current senate. The biggest critic of his term so far is reportedly Sincluda themselves, openly remarking that he rated dissatisfied on the poll. And while some comments did mention disappointment on the performance of this senator in comparison to their expectations, most of the reception was positive, with poll takers noting respect for Sincluda, praise on a great first term, and support for the tough public choice made regarding the presidential election.

Next Term's Senate

Who would you like to see run in the next Senate election?

Pland Adanna (3)
HEM (2)
ICH (2)
Olde Delaware (2)
Sanjurika (2)
Darkslayer
Deepest House
Drecq
Gaudosia
GrandfatherClock
GraVandius
Hezekon
Prim
Seven Deaths
Xecrio

Which incumbent Senators should return?

It's clear that Lloenflys continues to earn the approval of voters, and would stand a high chance of being re-elected with seventy six percent of poll takers eager to see him continue. Sincluda, although facing some criticism in their overall satisfaction comments, has impressed with sixty eight percent of respondents interested in seeing him returning in the coming term. Darcness, Peeps, and Kazaman all scored below fifty percent of poll respondents interested in seeing their return to the senate, indicating that it would require some convincing of voters in their platform, or a strong turnaround of approval prior to the end of the term. In the next senate election Pland Adanna seems to be a crowd favourite for coming back into the senate, with three comments indicating a desire to see them run in the next election. HEM, ICH, Olde Delaware, and Sanjurika all returned two interested comments from poll takers, which shows that there is some interest in seeing these citizens stand.

Senate Issues Approval Ratings

Recruitment Training Act - 36%

Nominations Clarification Amendment - 80%

Gameside Omnibus Act - 60%

Presidential Election Vote - 68%

Cabinet Nominations - 48%

Comments on the Senate's work this term:

While issues such as the Nominations Clarification Amendment provided a more clear-cut approval from respondents, the Recruitment Training Act and the Cabinet nominations seem to have people a little more divided. Comments seems to continue the discourse on if senators are rubber stamping nominations for ministers, specifically in this case on current Minister of Culture Baobab where multiple concerns were mentioned, with a comment even calling Senator Darcness out as "the only Senator interested in holding the executive accountable." In contrast, other comments applaud the senate as having a productive term, and although quiet, some are happy with their performance - which would explain the general approval of the handling of the Gameside Omnibus Act at exactly sixty percent of respondents agreeing, and the Presidential Election Vote with an even higher sixty eight percent. While there is time left in the term to boost the overall senate approval, it's clear that respondents from this poll are looking for more activity, and continued work on some of their original goals.

I'm intrigued as to why someone was against the Nominations Clarification Amendment...

Thanks for the analysis, Istillian!
