[Inside Government] Recruitment and Radio Resignation Rodeo

Recruitment and Radio Resignation Rodeo
The Commotion in Our Ministries

Written by Astrellan

(October 15, Europeia) - As anyone who has been paying attention to our government the past few weeks could tell you, the Ministries of Radio and Recruitment have gone through a bit of a turnover. This has caused some negative impacts on the output of those ministries and has brought down historic trends of popularity for the Ministry of Radio in particular.

Firstly, at the start of the term, there was a switch-up. Previously being the minister of radio, Caratheopia (Cara) made a transition into the role of minister of recruitment, covering a ministry with no able natural successors from ex-Minister Brí Shakespeare's (Brí) term. This also allowed Acapais, a very strong deputy minister in the Ministry of Radio, to rise to the Cabinet and implement his different idea for Radio going into the future. The plan seemed flawless and the Cabinet looked set for another great term.

But alas, disaster struck when, on September 29, Acapais resigned from his position, citing a sudden intensity of in-real-life factors relating around his job. This came as a shock, considering the ministry was bursting with senator candidate interviews around the historic general election, and a mix of casual content coming from its many radio hosts. The reception to this resignation was incredibly positive, however, with citizens stating that "real life comes first" and that he "deserves respect" for acknowledging the issue and taking ownership of it.

Less than a week later, on the October 4, First Minister Pichtonia proposed Bowzin to fill Acapais' place, a citizen known for organising and holding the much-loved EuroChoice Awards in 2018. In their nomination hearing, they talked about moving some of the ministry's content to Twitch, a platform used for live broadcasting. They plan on maximising on "visual content" in Twitch, citing possible ideas such as Haxball commentation and broadcasting the Ministry of Culture's Weekend Games program. They also stated their intention to keep "debates and political dicussions" on Mixlr, as they would not overly benefit from the move of platform.

This by itself would not be seen as a huge issue, considering the clear plans and structure for finishing the remaining term from Bowzin, but on the same day, Cara resigned from her office, again putting it down to increased real-life concerns. Luckily, the ministry was in a different place from the start of term, with the appointment of ex-Senator Snowball as deputy minister of recruitment by Deputy First Minister Astrellan and Pichtonia securing a natural successor of the ministry, which was done in response to Cara's previous Leave of Absence. As such, Snowball was nominated immediately to the Senate to take over, and was passed with only a few questions asked from Senators. In responses to those questions, he talked about transforming the Race to 2020 Recruitment Marathon, as, in his view, it "mostly failed [...] to get more people to recruit on a daily basis."

Things took a turn for a worse when, on October 10, Snowball resigned from his position. In a short but painful post, he informed the region that his father died suddenly, and he needed to step away from his duties to focus on his real-life self. He received an outpouring of support from the community, with a large number of people offering their condolences and understanding of his situation. This marked the third resignation in under two weeks for the Cabinet.

Brí was nominated to fill the vacant position of Minister of Recruitment, citing experience from running the ministry last term under Pichtonia. After assuaging concerns regarding whether his activity outlook was strong going into this term, and stating his intention to appoint long-time Recruitment Captain Jabbax as his deputy minister of recruitment, Brí was confirmed to the office on the 13th; two days ago.

While the swift action of Pichtonia to replace these vacancies in his Cabinet is commendable, it is clear that the public found this string of resignations to be a real issue. In the recent executive satisfaction poll results performed by the EBC, with incredibly low approval ratings of 29.6 percent and 44.4 percent for the Ministries of Recruitment and Radio respectively. This ended the impressively high trend for the Ministry of Radio, which was seeing 100 percent approval ratings in previous polls.

Despite this resignation rodeo, we now have two capable Ministers leading these ministries, and, with hopes of no more resignations happening this term, they are set to keep the Cabinet going until the end of this term.
