[Inside Government] October Executive Satisfaction Poll Results and Analyses

October Executive Satisfaction Poll Results and Analyses
A lot of writing.

Written by Astrellan, Calvin, Istillian and Maowi

With midterm coming up for the first minister, the EBC has collected the results of the executive end-term satisfaction poll. This particular poll attempts to gauge the electorate's satisfaction with the entire executive and the Councils/Ministries. 27 Citizens took the poll and the results are below:

Part 1: Both Branches
Written by Calvin

Executive Branch

As far as I'm aware, Prim has been doing a good job as CoS. I'm impressed with Pichto's second term thus far, particularly keeping his team focused and on the right course while overcoming a handful of resignations.

The region has an incredible amount of approval for its current executive, with 85 percent of respondents saying they approve of the executive on some level, with a whopping 37 percent strongly approving. Meanwhile, the options for disapproving and strongly disapproving received only one response each. As we'll see later in this poll, both executive branches have strong approval numbers on their own, so this number is unsurprising in context, yet still incredibly positive for our executive.

First Minister and Cabinet

1570999010180.png
Seems like after a term of excitement that malaise has sat in.

A lot of turnover, but they're making do.
Despite quite a number of retirements, they are still chugging along

slow start in some areas was due to unfortunate but unavoidable resignations

Pichtonia has done very poorly this term not addressing the region as in previous times and picking a bad cabinet. For example he picked Cara for Recruitment. She was not active a single day! A complete disaster for that cabinet slot. Lots of work lost. He can defend her all day but facts are facts, she was gone all the time. He sacked Whitmark but he didin't asked Cara for resignation. How is that? She was not even active a single day and he did not hold her accountable. That’s poor leadership and lack of focus. Recruitment was abandoned all this term and thanks to Pichtonia’s mediocrity. This lack of leadership and focus can also be attributed to the fact that Pichtonia also nominated an inactive Acapais for Min of Radio, who just couldn’t with the job. Again this is Pichtonia’s fault and shows his bad judgement, lack of good leadership and poor management in assembling a team. Very poor showing of Pichtonia this term. Probably one of the worst second term's ever in the region. He might be popular due to his friendly appearances on discord, but he has done nothing this term, only damage to the region.

Moving on to the domestic side exclusively, the numbers remain incredibly high, with nearly 90 percent of respondents stating their approval of the first minister and Cabinet's collective job performance so far. That includes 48 percent of respondents who strongly approve. We also saw yet again that the disapproval options got only one vote apiece. A recent theme for the first minister's cabinet has been turnover in ministerial positions, but the public seems more than willing to forgive the absences when judging the whole.

Chief of State and Council of State

1570999028990.png
HEM is the only good cabint member

FA is still too hidden.

CoNSGP is really neat, and they handled the WA situation nicely

When it comes to the chief of state and his council, 81.5 percent of respondents say they approve of their job performances, which only looks disappointing if you compare it to the domestic side's numbers. The number of respondents giving their strong approval is much lower here, with only 22 percent. Normally that wouldn't be noteworthy, but given the near-historic approval on the other side of the executive, it is worth noting that for one reason or another, the foreign affairs crew has less than half the amount of hardcore fans. Of course, let's not bury the lede, these numbers are incredibly strong for our executive, all around.

Attorney General

1570999045706.png
Drecq has done a satisfactory job as AG, but the concentration of legislative authority of Speaker and the power to review legislation passed by the Senate conducted by the Ministry of Justice into one person is troubling.

Leading the law clerks well
he's got the ministry of justice running smoothly with the law clerks training program

Law Clerks have been lit.

Our attorney general is no stranger to broad support, either, with 85 percent of respondents showing their approval of his job performance, and 55 percent of that being strong approval. Without a single vote showing strong disapproval, we can see that even the less traditionally public-facing roles in the executive are well-received by the public, meaning there are very few weak spots for this branch of government in the current period.

Part 2: Domestic Approval: First Minister & Cabinet
Written by Maowi and Istillian

First Minister
1570999109922.png
Pichto was out front and visible last term. This time around, quieter and less out front.
Pichto nia has done a good job as First Minister i Wonder if he will run for another term
Pichto's second term has been a little on the slower side compared to his first. That being said, it doesn't seem like he's asleep at the wheel and things are still getting done.
Pichtonia is doing really well, all things considered.
Pichto this term has been active, creative, and helpful as always
Another strong term for Pichto.
Horrible. The worst this year. He did okay the first term but he has gone to sleep this term. I think he relies heavily on the fact that he thinks he is popular and he doesn't need to do anything.

As shown above, an overwhelming majority of Europeians approve (92.6 percent) of Pichtonia’s second term as First Minister. While some comments from the poll seem to indicate a general feeling that Pichtonia has been quieter this term, or that his pace of work has not been as well communicated or as clearly laid out in the public sphere, that feeling doesn’t seem to extend to the work actually getting done; and has not affected his overall approval.

Unsurprisingly, most comments seem to suggest that Pichtonia is doing a good job as First Minister, with satisfaction ratings of 74.1 percent of citizens strongly approving of Pichtonia’s job, and 18.5 percent approving.

Deputy First Minister

1570999151556.png
I haven't seen much of him to render an opinion on his job quality
Hard to tell
His weakness is communication - would love to know more about his projects. But he's a strong workhorse and everyone seems to vouch that things are getting done behind the scenes.
There are no duties for a DFM except to not go inactive as the same time as the FM, and in that regard, Astrellan has succeeded.
Nice response to criticism from Whitmark. I think it was a non-issue, and a hypocritical one besides, considering Whit failed to do anything he asked of Astrellan.
Overrated. He brags and brags, but he has not accomplish or done nearly anything. For example what is he even doing right now? He keeps posting LOA and telling everyone he is busy with RL on discord, then why don’t he step down? He is not doing anything anyway! He is very power-hungry. I know for a fact he doesn’t do anything, I worked with him in the past and he disappeared the whole term, he never showed up and never had any interest. I have seen the same of this pattern in other offices he has held and again with relying on the excuses of being busy in RL AT THE SAME TIME he is seeking higher office. He is power-hungry overrated bragger. I think he must resign!
Astrellan really showed a different strength earlier in this term. Criticisms were raised about what he'd been doing as DFM, and he has made an active effort to not only respond to those criticisms but also become better with communication overall - as DFM and Minister of Integration. That's maturity in action.

The approval for Deputy First Minister Astrellan remains high (74 percent), albeit a little more mixed, with 48.1 percent approving of the job, and 25.9 percent strongly approving of the job.

Comments for Astrellan seems to be a little more varied, which is reflected in the 18.5 percent of respondents who reported that they were unsure/don’t know whether they approve or disapprove of the job he has done. While some criticisms are made that Astrellan’s communication to the public is an issue, it is also noted that his communication had improved throughout the term, particularly after publicly addressing concerns and taking swift action on the matter, showing an ability to listen to the public and implement decisive and positive changes.

Minister of Integration

1570999175519.png
We've had a small influx of new people but no idea if their staying because of Siph's efforts. A poll taken by our new citizens might help determine this
Same as above
Integration is too hard to quantify, nearly impossible to tell if the job is well done, or honestly, if the job is done at all.
I didn't think much was happening in MinInteg, but the new update gives much needed information out there.
If he is too busy every week, why don’t he resign?

Approval for Astrellan as Minister of Integration remains somewhat high (70.4 percent), however, a similar high trend of unsure/don’t know responses (25.9 percent) remain as with the deputy first minister role. Criticism in the commentary seems to be focussed on the difficulty on determining if the role requirements are being fulfilled, and a suggestion of polling new citizens to determine if the Minister of Integration helps with retention rates was of interest. Astrellan has recently addressed much of the difficulty of public oversight of the ministry, with plans to communicate information in the form of weekly (ish) updates and more visibility.

Minister of Communications

1570999191788.png
Would like to see Maowi write more articles as the minister.
The column system has worked beautifully
Tentative approval, but has there been a slight downtick in content being put out?

Minister of Communications Maowi has returned solid high approval ratings (100 percent), with nothing below an approval rating from respondents; clearly showing that citizens are happy with how the ministry is currently being run. The only criticism in the commentary appears to be that there has been a slight downward trend in articles being published, and hopes to see Maowi write more herself. However, Maowi has recently addressed both of these concerns in her midterm address to the public, promising more works being published over the term, and with a downturn in staffing within the Europeian Broadcasting Corporation, a willingness to write more content herself.

Minister of Culture

1570999205608.png
A lot of irons in the fire at the moment, so hopefully she gets that sorted out.
Been a little slow to put out some things, but weekend games are going strong. However weekend games are not the only aspect of culture.
Tentatively approve. I'm hesitant to say I expect more this far into the term, but that's only because I rarely venture down to the southern parts of the forum where we've buried all the ministry forums. I may be missing some crucial updates.

DictatorAnna10 (DAX), has similarly received positive approval ratings (88.8 percent) for her role as Minister of Culture, with a split of 40.7 percent strongly approving, and 48.1 percent approving. The commentary seems to suggest that DAX’s approval rating is in part for keeping weekend games going strong over the term, although criticism in the comments suggested that weekend games are not the only aspect of culture –potentially being an answer to the unsure/don’t know (7.4 percent), or 3.7 percent disapproval rating for DAX.

Ministry of Recruitment

1570999226800.png
I haven't seen anyone recruiting. Are they? Yes, I know there was a shift in leadership. That's fair.

From what is publicly available, everything seems to be going wrong.

Seems fine, but I don't know enough about that Ministry.

Telegrams have been coming out.

Recruitment: a completely abandoned Ministry by Pichtonia’s bad judgement in choosing Cara at the beginning of the term. And even worse, sticking with her even when she was not active a single day. He didn’t do anything to manage the Ministry himself also. He just let it die! Bad leader for Europeia.

Almost half of respondents were unsure about the state of the ministry; the recent resignation of a Carathetopia, which was almost by necessity preceded by a short period of inactivity that was the cause of the resignation, the appointment of her replacement Snowball, and Snowball's subsequent resignation during the period this poll was open have left the ministry adrift, with no leader in place long enough to push forward their vision. This is the likely cause of the ministry's low 29.6 percent approval rating; the lack of leadership for a significant portion of the term so far has resulted in weekly telegram counts lower than usual and little information being released to the public. The comments generally seem to express an absence of clarity regarding the ministry's activity. However, there is certainly cause for optimism about the ministry's outlook for the second half of the term; Pichtonia has nominated former Minister of Recruitment Brí Shakespeare to return to the role.

Ministry of Radio

1570999247167.png
As with Recruitment, Pichtonia’s bad leadership and bad judgement didn’t managed to assemble a good team for the cabinet and improvised with names at the beginning of the term. Radio has suffered under this term because Pichtonia’s mediocrity.

Lots of coverage during the Senate election. Hopefully the new Minister can pick it back up.

Seems like radio has been a little on the sleepy side this term, but shows are happening regularly which is great!

Haven't listened to anything this term so far.

Nice coverage around the start of the Senate Election, but it's fallen recently.

Another ministry which suffered from a resignation and replacement, the Ministry of Radio nevertheless managed to garner a solid 44.4 percent approval rating, with the remainder of votes almost entirely attributable to "Unsure/Don't know." From the comments made, it seems that much of the positivity stems from the ministry's high activity under Acapais covering the Senate elections, although many noted the drop in content after Acapais' resignation due to real-life issues and during the period in which Bowzin was being confirmed by the Senate. This should be set to change, with a discussion with Pichtonia about this first minister term broadcast on Saturday and a first minister draft due to take place later today. This should hopefully result in the ministry ending the term on a high.

Part 3: External Executive- Chief of State & Council
Written by Maowi and Astrellan

Chief of State

1570999262492.png
Loved that he took on N-Day

I do not think that he handled the world assembly stuff well especially what happened with Aex and the fight that broke out in Discord and his snarky comments on the EBC article. It did not reflect well on him

He campaigned on raising up the next generation of FA leaders, and so far it seems he's working on doing just that.

The CoS is rarely a visible role, but Prim has been exceptional in executing it.

Chief of State Prim is enjoying a superb approval rating of 85.1 percent, with a significant 40.7 percent strongly approving. For a role that mainly concerns itself with matters outside Europeia, removed from the familiar world of our forum, earning high approval ratings is arguably harder than in domestic affairs; your contributions are far less visible and your tasks a lot less obvious. However, Prim's exemplary leadership and his engagement with the community (such as his active role in N-Day) have clearly gone down well with voters. There also appears to be optimism for the future of foreign affairs, with Prim training future leaders in the councils of state to secure the stability of the councils.

Deputy Chief of State

1570999283750.png
Job of the DCoS is to have a pulse. HEM checks out.

Unsure of what he has done

Not only has HEM earned an approval rating of 74.0 percent as deputy chief of state; he has also managed to avoid any votes of dissatisfaction, with the remainder of votes going to "Unsure/Don't know." The general paucity of comment - and the nature of the few comments made - are indicative of a lack of controversy or publicly visible activity from the deputy chief of state in that role, which reflects the nature of the position as primarily advisory and as a reserve in case of a chief of state vacancy, neither of which are purposes which require activity in public channels and forums. Of course, HEM has reached out to the citizenry with his inaugural address, which generated several comments; perhaps this, as well as his status as the founder and therefore the longest-standing citizen of Europeia, is what gives him this outstanding poll result.

Europeian Republican Navy

1570999297293.png
The ERN changes seem like the right direction.

RAID, RAID, RAID!

Based on these results, there is nothing but positivity regarding the Europeian Republican Navy (ERN). Structural changes introduced by Grand Admiral HEM appear to have been successfully implemented with position results, and regular updates on ERN operations are posted on the forum, ensuring that citizens are kept up to speed with the navy's activity. Recent operations include a collaboration with The North Pacific to set a record in a detagging campaign, a very impressive achievement; although certainly remarkable, HEM's 100 percent approval rating comes with little surprise.

Councillor of World Assembly Affairs

Maowi or Aex would have done better, and they seem to be spurning much of the activity.
he's doesn't seem to be the one in charge.
N/A why was this a required response
Why is this a required question for JayDee but for no on else? JAYDEE YOU ARE THE CENTER OF THE UNIVERSE
TOO SOON
helpful, friendly leader
What has he been doing?

Councillor of World Assembly Affairs JayDee enjoys a respectable 66.6 percent approval rating, with a small disapproval rating of 7.4 percent with no "Strong Disapprove" responses. Being quite new to his role, JayDee has still managed to create a strong start in World Assembly Affairs, with the quick release of 3 IFVs and plans to expand his council in his recent address. Criticism in the comments suggests a lack of visibility from JayDee, despite releasing two addresses this term and his IFV work being entire public.

Councillor of Nation States Forum Engagement Rachael

The fact that EBC forgot to add the position to the poll in the first place should speak to how useful it has been..................
Her "NationStates Gameplay Update" articles are a good addition to the EBC's postings as it provides a good way for people to stay informed about happenings in wider NS, at a surface level.
Seems fine. Glad to see the position will be removed later.
Cool council
would like to see a little more engagement between her and the general populace of europeia but there is no doubt she's qualified for the job
Not sure this position is needed.
This is a position that I really don't understand the need for. Why isn't this a Deputy role for Foreign Affairs?
Expected a little more
Haven't seen anything from her.
I should probably good look in the ministry subforums, but unless there's an address there, I don't know what she's done...

Garnering the most negative rating from the poll's respondents is Councillor of Nation States Forum Engagement Rachael, who gets a 44.4 percent approval rating and a 22.3 percent disapproval rating, with a third of respondents responding with "Unsure/Don't Know". It should be noted here that this question only received 18 responses in comparison to the 27 for almost every other question, as it was added later in the poll. Regardless, the comments seem to be more so directed at the position rather than Rachael herself, with mentions of removing the position in favour of a Deputy Minister position in Foreign Affairs. There is also some mention of disappointment from respondents about her output this term. Rachael released an FA update using the EBC, but this is the only piece from her this term.

Councillor of Foreign Affairs

Min. FA is not exactly posting much in the line of updates, though this can be forgiven due to Prim posting these updates from Goldenblock instead.
This has been too quite. There's been no changes at all to Ambassadors, despite the constant pledges from him and his predecessor to change that. Disappointed.

Councillor of Foreign Affairs Darcness manages a majority approval rating of 51.8 percent, with exactly half of that being Strongly Approve responses, and 25.9 percent responding with "Unsure/Don't Know". Apart from releasing a popular opening address at the start of term, there have been no other official posts from the council, thus leading to a lack of visibility. One of the few comments for Darcness appears to contradict what Chief of State Prim stated in his State of the Region address about the ministry, as it claims a lack of change inside the council. Overall, it appears that a lack of activity from the position, not the person, has led to this quite negative result.

Possible First Minister Candidates
Written by Astrellan

In the most extensive list to date, respondents were requested to tick who they would like to see running for first minister in the upcoming election. The results were as follows: Top to bottom, it is arranged first by the number of votes, then alphabetically.

Pichtonia - 16 (59.3 percent)
Astrellan - 15 (55.6 percent)
Lloenflys - 15 (55.6 percent)
DictatorAnna10 - 13 (48.1 percent)
Maowi - 13 (48.1 percent)

Calvin Coolidge - 10 (37 percent)
HEM - 10 (37 percent)
Prim - 10 (37 percent)
JayDee - 9 (33.3 percent)
Snowball - 9 (33.3 percent)

Aexnidaral - 7 (25.9 percent)
Darcness - 7 (25.9 percent)
GraVandius - 7 (25.9 percent)
Kuramia - 7 (25.9 percent)
Olde Delaware - 7 (25.9 percent)
Bowzin - 6 (22.2 percent)
Hezekon - 6 (22.2 percent)

Drecq - 5 (18.5 percent)
Istillian - 5 (18.5 percent)
Izzy - 5 (18.5 percent)
Rand - 5 (18.5 percent)
Sopo - 5 (18.5 percent)
Whitmark - 5 (18.5 percent)

Rachael - 4 (14.8 percent)
Vlaska - 4 (14. 8 percent)
Writinglegend - 4 (14.8 percent)
Cuddles - 3 (11.1 percent)
Ervald - 3 (11.1 percent)
Malashaan - 3 (11.1 percent)

Acapais - 2 (7.4 percent)
Brí Shakespeare - 2 (7.4 percent)
Caratheopia - 2 (7.4 percent)
Deepest House - 2 (7.4 percent)
Kaboom - 2 (7.4 percent)
Le Liberte - 2 (7.4 percent)
Pierce - 2 (7.4 percent)
Captain Dodger - 1 (3.4 percent)
Monroevia - 1 (3.4 percent)
Thatcher Whitehall - 1 (3.4 percent)

At the top of this huge list, we see three clear frontrunners - Interim First Minister Pichtonia, Deputy First Minister and Senator Astrellan, and ex-First Minister and Senator Lloenflys. These three individuals have enjoyed incredibly high satisfaction ratings previously across their roles, and it is clear this applies to this poll in particular. Pichtonia is currently in his second term as first minister, having won the previous two elections uncontested, and, as shown by the results above, enjoys popularity in his work in such a role, leaving no doubt why he is the favourite from the list. Astrellan is a relative newcomer to the region, serving as senator three times consecutively, and being deputy first minister and minister of integration underneath Pichtonia the past two terms, and despite less popularity on this poll than his average, he still appears to be a favourite to run in the next First Minister election. Finally, Lloenflys has recently returned to the Senate, and has served as first minister previously, enjoying incredibly positive approval ratings in both roles, clearly carrying on this in garnering majority support from our respondents. Any one of these individuals will be strong candidates in the upcoming elections.

Also at the top, we see Minister of Culture and ex-Senator DictatorAnna10 and Minister of Communications Maowi. DictatorAnna10, commonly known as DAX, has been instrumental in restoring the Ministry of Culture from a sorry state in the term before, and enjoys large approval ratings in this poll as shown above. Maowi has been a popular newcomer to the region, with this being her first term in the Cabinet. Both have shown effort and activity in their roles and it is no surprise to see them grazing the top of the list.

Next, we see some potentially strong candidates, with Founder and Deputy Chief of State HEM, Chief of State Prim, Senator and Councillor of World Assembly Affairs JayDee and Senator Calvin Coolidge, as well as ex-Senator and ex-Minister of Recruitment Snowball. Without going into much detail, we see the names of many people who have recently got back into politics, including JayDee, Snowball, and Calvin. These people have been going strong in their respective branches, whether the Executive or Legislative, and it is clear to see why they have scored fairly well on this question

Coming to the lower end we see strong names like ex-Chief of State Kuramia, Councillor of Foreign Affairs Darcness, and ex-Minister of Communications Hezekon to name but a few. While perhaps not enjoying the popularity of others, these candidates have a fair shot should they wish to run for first minister.

And finally, there are individuals in names yellow, orange, or red. Scoring less than a fifth of the votes, it appears that they don't have a huge amount of support from the respondents of the poll. While any credible campaign can come from these people, it is unclear whether they stand a strong chance of winning the election.

There are also these mentions for who would win the Chief of State election, with names like Maowi, Darcness and Aexnidaral topping the mentions:
Maowi or HEM
Maowi, Aex, Darc
Darcness or HEM
DAX!!!!!!
HEM
Aexnidaral or Hem
Prim
Are there any active people in the region NOT on this list?
Prim, HEM
HEM, I'd support Prim for re-election
Izzy
Astrellan, definitely. Also why are some on that list? Has anyone noticed that Pierce's nation is dead and he hasn't been active in at least a month...?

Pichtonia Re-election Prospects

1570999319109.png

Rounding out this poll, let's turn directly to the reelection chances of our first minister, Pichtonia. Unsurprisingly, those numbers once again bode very well for him, should he choose to run for a third term, with 77.7 percent of respondents saying they would support him. Interestingly, this is a drop from the over 90 percent of respondents who approve directly of his job performance, so there are supporters of his that would not like to see him return, for one reason or another. However, it is clear that he can afford to lose a few supporters and still maintain these very impressive numbers. Should Pichtonia choose to run again, expect any opponent to be facing a very uphill battle in their bid to unseat him.

This was such a quality read! All of these recent EBC articles are incredibly helpful in informing me of the state of the region at this moment.
