[Inside Government] End-of-Term Senate Satisfaction Poll Analysis

End of Term Poll Analysis
Senate Satisfaction

Written by Xecrio

Overall Senate Satisfaction
Overall, the Senate received a 76.9 percent approval rating. This term, the Senate has been largely preoccupied with the Executive Modernisation Omnibus Act (2020), which recently passed the Senate and is now headed to a referendum. Many citizens are unsure about the bill, and the lack of other work in the Senate may contribute to the 19.2 percent disapproval rating. The comments clearly show a mixture of support for the EMOA, and this may play a large part in many of the senators returning high “unsatisfied” ratings.

I dislike the bill they rushed and forced through for executive modernization

Good discussion and seemed to shift toward public opinion when it came up

Fell off the track of keeping up with the senate

They were able to get the reform done, which is very impressive.

Nice work on that bill

The Senate seemed worried about executive bloat and lack of ability to do oversight but never bothered with LA9

They've done good work

They've done a good job at compromise and listening to the region. They have also worked on other projects at the same time as reform.

They got the job done evidently

reform has been painful to watch but i'm glad it seems to be finished

Senate Speaker Lloenflys
Speaker Lloenflys returns an 88.5 percent approval rating. The speaker has been noticeably vocal in the Senate this term, actively speaking his views on the EMOA. Lloenflys has also been able to keep the Senate running smoothly this term, especially with the pressure of getting the EMOA passed on time. Lloenflys has also been labelled a "good speaker" who didn’t "try to obstruct reform." Lloenflys is one of the few senators opposing the executive merge and yet he still has high approval, which could be due to his manners and his facilitation of a discussion he did not agree with.

Senator Calvin Coolidge
Calvin Coolidge is an experienced senator, having last held the position prior to his election as the first minister. As such he returns an impressive 80.8 percent approval rating. He, like many other senators, has been vocal on the most pressing issue this term. The senator returns a 7.7 percent "unsatisfactory" rating, but this is perhaps only a reflection on the controversy of the Senate’s primary task this term.

Senator Darcness
Well respected and experienced Senator Darcness received a disappointing approval rating of 38.5 percent. Perhaps in different circumstances, the responses of poll takers would have been different. Darcness has been rather vocal on the issue of the executive re-merge and has come off controversial in his support of the hard cap, labelled as an "intentional obstructionist" which could correspond to the senator's 46.1 percent disapproval rating.

Senator Darkslayer
Darkslayer, while new, has already made a name for himself in the Senate by winning a seat in the recent Senate by-election. Darkslayer had been active in voicing his opinion on Senate work, which may have earned him his seat. The senator receives a rather impressive 73 percent. Two responses giving “unsatisfied” clearly show that the new face in the Senate has some work to do to garner the support of the electorate. The senator received a large portion of undecided voters -probably due to him being a new face in the Senate.

Senator Deepest House
Senator Deepest House, despite this being his first term in the Senate, receives the body's highest approval rating of 88.5 percent. Having been very vocal and often taking initiative this term to ignite discussion, could very well have been a contributing factor to the senator’s approval rating. Deepest House does return a 7.7 percent "very unsatisfied" rating. This may be due to the controversial nature of the Senate’s work this term, as the recent Grand Hall debates have shown. Deepest House has written a Europeian Broadcasting Corporation (EBC) article on the matter of executive modernisation and also played a large role in crafting the bill.

Senator Ervald
The second senator to win the recent by-election was Ervald, who like his counterpart, had been active in voicing his views and concerns in the work of the Senate. Ervald returns a moderate 65.4 percent approval rating. The current circumstances, given the fact that the Senate has been occupied with such a controversial topic this term, may contribute to Ervald’s 19.2 percent "unsatisfied" rating.

Senator McEntire
Senator McEntire was controversial like his fellow Senator Darcness in supporting a hard cap for ministers. As such he returns a 61.6 percent approval rating. Out of 26 respondents, 7 voted in some way “unsatisfied.” This may because of this support for a hard cap, but also the respondents' concerns that he has not been as active as some of his fellow senators. It shows that the senator would have work to do to regain the support of the electorate should he choose to run in the general election.

Senator Peeps
Senator Peeps is another vocal senator in the issues concerning executive modernisation, taking part in the Grand Hall debates, and also getting involved in smaller discord debates. He played a large role in writing the EMOA, but also in passing some smaller legislation such as the Constitutional Convention Act. The senator received a 61.6 percent approval rating from poll takers. While this is not a bad rating, it does show that some of the work the senator has done may not have been supported by all, and as such may contribute to the 7 respondents who voted “unsatisfied” in one form or another.

Senator Prim
Lastly, Senator Prim, another notable name on the Senate this term, garnered an 84.2 percent approval rating for his work. Prim has been active in Senate discussion and helping to pass some smaller acts to push the Senate to do more work other than that of the topic of executive modernisation this term. The remaining 15.7 percent which counts for “unsatisfied” and “unsure” may be a result of the nature of the Senate this term, but may also be a sign that the senator may have to put in a little extra effort to win the support of the electorate if he chooses to run again.

Darcness seems to be an intentional obstructionist at times. McEntire has been good but is not very active currently. Lloenflys and Prim very good as always.

Darcness has not been accessible, listening to opinions, or generally speaking the complete and whole truth. Will not re-elect.

I strongly disapprove of every senator who voted for this disgrace of a bill.

Some of the senators seemed to have fallen off the rails in terms of activity this term, maybe either busy RL or just due to legislative fatigue. All senators that received under a satisfactory were because I'd like to see more activity from them. All senators that got highly satisfactory were senators that I think were exemplary in leading the reform discussion and proposing new ideas.

A strong term, passing the reform package. Deepest House surprised me with his ability to make deals and get the job done.

Lloen is a good speaker and i'm glad he didn't try to obstruct reform. he will be missed next term.

Respondents On Who They Would Like to See in the Senate
The poll asked respondents who they would like to see serve a second term in the Senate, and which Europeians they would like to see run in the upcoming general election. All of the current sitting senators have some support in their favour of possible re-election. Respondents listed GraVandius, Forilian, Monkey, SkyGreen24, and Pichtonia more than once for Europeians they would like to see put their name in the general election.

Prim, DH, Peeps, Lloenflys but not going to happen
Lloenflys! Though he’s not returning, which is sad. Peeps, Prim, Calvin, McEntire, Darkslayer, and Ervald will also be great in another Senate.
Peeps, Calvin, DH and Darkslayer,
Lloen, Darkslayer, McEntire
Lloen, Prim, Deepest House, Calvin
Deepest House, Darkslayer, Peeps, McEntire, Calvin, Lloen. I'd be fine with Prim and Darc serving in the future if they were able to be more active and involved in discussions, a break might do them good.

Some of these numbers don't surprise me at all, especially coupled with some of the comments

An interesting look at how the Senate fared.

Honestly, while the referendum sparked debate....at it was meant to....this Senate did a great job keeping on track and being active and engaging. Good job all!

I think overall this Senate will be remembered positively. For a 9 person Senate to achieve as much as it did and its ability to compromise as well as it did should be commended.
