The EuroChoice Awards are back!

Written by Winged Bear

The end of January, finally. All Europeians look forward to the start of a new year, for it is the season for one of the Republic’s most appreciated recurring events: the EuroChoice Awards. The event allows for reflection on the year past, light-hearted games and, notoriously, the choosing of the previous year’s greatest figures in a variety of domains, ranging from “President of the Year” to “Fail post of the Year” through a series of more or less honorific awards.

The event is also a red letter week for the Ministry of Culture, led by newcomer and first-time Cabinet position holder Minister Bowzin. Bowzin heralded this years’ EuroChoice Awards ceremony on Friday 18th 2019 with a jam-packed schedule presenting innovative and entertaining events that could keep one on the EuroChoice specific forum all week long leading up to Sunday 27th 2019, when the recipients of the awards will be announced.

Category nominations started on Day 1, with citizens free to suggest categories for awards, many of which were seen on the final poll. The category awards lasted through the weekend, after which they were replaced by actual nominations. Citizens could nominate each other for 23 main awards and another 20 "Razzies", slightly less serious but no less interesting award categories judging everything from forum avatars to spelling.

Two side events were also organized: Europeia in Review: Ministries and Europeia in Review: Senate, where thoughts and testimonies from many Cabinet members and Senators from 2018 were collected and posted. The officials reflected on their achievements and failures in 2018 and how the region evolved as a result during this very animated year marked by reform attempts, a forum change, a war, numerous rising newcomers, and many highs and lows.

Adepts of themed games were not forgotten, with a games section featuring specially crafted entertainments such as "Give an Award to the Person Above” where participants had to come up with original and personalized award names, an Anti NPO Poster contest where citizens were invited to design epic posters (whose winning entries would become the avatars of Minister Bowzin and an "undecided" person), a speculation thread for Europeia’s future, and a viral Europeian memes contest. All of this was more than enough to ease any tension generated by the ceremony

Radio was not left aside, with a Europeia Trivia Contest having been organized on Tuesday 22nd at 9PM EST, a prediction show aired on Thursday 24th, and some more radio content to be broadcast over the weekend, including a radio show announcing the winners of the awards planned for Sunday 27th.

Special focus has been placed on the prestigious "Citizen of the Year" award that lists 5 nominees deserving of this high recognition: Prim, Kuramia, HEM, Aex and Sopo. The result of this one and the 42 other awards this year's edition will distribute will be known on Sunday 27th January, 2019.

Altogether this year's EuroChoice edition appears to be a successful iteration of a beloved tradition thanks to hard work from Minister Bowzin and the entire Ministry of Culture staff that the EBC thanks for their efforts in preparing the ceremony.
