Goodnight, Europeia

Before I begin, I'd like to give credit to Oliver, as this was originally his idea that I have just decided to adapt and carry on.

To start out with, I think it best to share the personal motto I have adopted over the past few days, the Serenity Prayer. Whether you are a person of faith or not, the message is both genuine and practical:

God, grant me the serenity
To accept the things I cannot change,
Courage to change the things I can,
and wisdom to know the difference
The term so far has certainly been a learning experience. Not just for me, but for many people starting out in new jobs they haven't held before. It has been a time to test the waters and see what's plausible and what's not. I'm beginning to get a grasp on my own limitations and powers, knowing what I am able to do and what I am not. Through talking with others about the goings-on here, I can prepare myself not to make the same mistake twice.

Generally, I feel very good about the term and the progress made thus far. Today (and even now) I'm working on changing up the forums to make them a bit more sleek. Many of the Culture forums don't get much use, so they'll likely all be combined soon. R3n has been incredibly helpful in this regard. I've also made plans with Earth for a conference to begin in just over a week. I'm excited to begin reaching out to our allies.

Nominations have been taking up quite a bit of my time lately. Whether it was arguing in favor of a nomination, finding someone to nominate, nominating someone, or discussing a particular nomination on MSN, it has really been a big part of my workload. Frankly, I'm getting tired of the nominations. The Senate is also likely tiring of the nominations. Hopefully they'll die down for awhile after this.

Today has generally been a good day. Earth presented to me a sketch of a picture she's drawing of "me" (Jimmy McMillan) at my desk with the "Cabinet." It certainly brightened my night. I also had a nice conversation with Lethen about progress made so far this term. It's always good to hear from people outside the actual government when trying to gauge progress.

This has already been quite long for a journal. I guess I should stop here and learn to be more compact. Well, as I said in the beginning, a learning experience. Expect a better, length-conscious journal tomorrow. Goodnight, Europeia.

What a brilliant piece Mr. President! :p

Today has been fairly quiet. I welcomed a bit (albeit after my "official" day had ended... oops) and had a few conversations with Europeians and some friends from other regions. I browsed the NS Gameplay forums for interesting news, but I ended up just being amused by little raider/defender arguments. I try to stay as in the know as possible.

This has been an abnormal day simply because I haven't had an excess of things to do. I moved a few topics around in the new Culture Corner. Really, though, I've just been planning things and enjoying the lighter side of NS. I appreciate days like these much more than I used to. As lame as it sounds, I don't mind staring blankly at the forum for a few minutes knowing nothing needs my immediate attention.

That's not to say I've run out of things to do, quite to the contrary. We've got a conference coming up next week and SummerFest to follow shortly after. Our Foreign Affairs goals are progressing with the release of the Update and removal of inactive embassies, but that's only the beginning. There's much to do if Europeia is truly going to embrace a new direction. Well, if only for a day, I appreciate the break. You know what they say, there ain't no rest for the wicked. Goodnight, Europeia.

I'm so tired, and I'm not even sure why. This probably won't be very long, I'm practically falling asleep as I type. Today was very productive, though more so in real life than in Europeia. I got a lot of packing done for when I leave Saturday. I did get a few things done around here, though. I made a "Getting Started" thread for the new hybrid introduction/citizenship forums. I also looked over some treaties and Earth's recommendations for what to do with them. There are quite a few things in the pipes right now, so hopefully there will be more visible results soon.

Without the constant stress of random problems popping up and the temptation to just let things slide, the last few days have been slow as I've given precedence to my big real life happenings. This isn't permanent, though, so you can expect to see more accomplished soon. The Ministers are still dutifully chipping away and things are chugging along, even as I slack off for a few days.

Well, where's my pillow? I could really use some sleep. Goodnight Europeia.

This has been a very foreign policy driven evening for me. With help from HEM and Earth, I drafted a response to the UKB's loss of founder. I also looked over some changes to our Foreign Policy Document as well as some things to do with a super sekrit project. :ph43r:

All in all, things continue to get busier and busier as I get ready to leave for college Saturday. Continue to bear with me as I do my best to combat the tidal wave of preparations and my mother begging me to start packing already. Goodnight Europeia.

I've spent a lot of time driving this weekend. As everyone heads back to school, things are a bit slow around here. However, things are beginning to pick up. Europeia is hosting a conference to begin Wednesday and our updated foreign policy will be released to the public for discussion as soon as tomorrow. I have plenty on my plate this week, both here in Europeia and in real life. It looks like things should balance out fairly well, so expect to see me about more this week than then the past few days.

As always, Europeia, your government is doing its best to provide the results we were elected to provide, even if we hit some speed bumps along the way. Goodnight, Europeia.

I'm going to use today's edition of my journal to focus on the conference happening tomorrow. The Cross-Cultural Conference is an opportunity for Europeia to act as a mediator between raiders and defenders and really show our stripes as a moderate raiding region that is accepting of all people. It will be a great chance for us to grow our worldview that while regions can raid or defend, once off of the battlefield all NSers deserve the same amount of respect, regardless of raider ideology.

As a region, Europeia has friends on both sides of the aisle, something I am very proud of. I hope we can help others to see that raiders and defenders have more commonalities than differences, something Europeia has now been espousing for ages.

I encourage all Europeians to participate in the cultural aspects of the conference. Expect a more diary-like entry once again tomorrow. Goodnight, Europeia.

As much as any of you hear me complain, I truly do love my job. More and more I begin to appreciate the positive impacts made on the region by every single citizen. When you recruit, when you greet someone, when you start a discussion about the adorableness of bullets, you make Europeia a better place to be. I cannot possibly thank every person who has ever had an impact on Europeia, but I can tell you all that you are appreciated, even when your work goes unnoticed.

Europeia isn't great because of a President, or a Minister, or a Senator, it is great because citizens care and do good work for the region even while going unnoticed. Today, a few new members applied for citizenship because they saw our update in their home region and it inspired them to join. Our success is magnetic. People want to be here with us, where they can be part of something greater than themselves.

I have always wanted to be President of Europeia, since the moment I arrived here. What I failed to realize for so long is that one doesn't need to be President to make a change, one just needs to start making that change. I encourage any citizen with a vision to share that vision. There is no Europeian too new or too old, too big or too small to be heard. Everyone has a voice, and everyone can make a difference.

Goodnight Europeia.

Most of us have realized by now that the evils of real life university have kept Sopo relatively busy. This is a terrible shame, but hopefully routine will give rise to an easy way for him to balance his new found educational facility and the wonderful community we have here.

Over the last few days we have been dealing with the United Federation "affair". It's no surprise to anyone that I have had more than a few rough words to say about what occurred. Overall though, I think that our friends in TUF made a mistake, and that we should open the doors for that mistake to be corrected.

While I do believe an apology would be a appropriate, I also hope that warm negotiations in good faith by us will lead to such a statement, and not by demands of myself or anyone else in this region.

Aside from this incident, most of you are probably also concerned about the entire porn spam affair. It is a matter that the EIA is continuing to investigate with a sense of urgency. While the attacks themselves seemed to have slowed, nobody has been brought to justice. I assure this region that before my time to leave this office, we shall have sufficient evidence to shame those who have brought shame upon themselves through their vile acts.

As Vice President I have asked all my Ministers to submit reports on their Junior Ministers. This will no longer be required of all Junior Ministers themselves. However, while not required, it may not be a bad idea to still drop me a line. Otherwise, my rankings will be based soley off the reports from the Senior Ministers and my impressions of affairs (both which may be bias or wrong).

Finally, I know many people may be frustrated with recruitment. I regret not recruiting as of late. School has kicked my butt these last few days, but I plan on sending at least a small amount of telegrams daily. Let's all join the effort and make sure unequal work isn't being shifted unfairly on a few shoulders.

Anyway, this turned out far longer than I expected. I wish all of you well and conclude by saying,

Goodnight Europeia.
