September 28 Weekly Update

N-Day, and the Senate Gets To Work

Written By Snowball

Senate Elections
Senate elections were held on September 20. Astrellan, Calvin Coolidge, Darcness, Drecq, JayDee, Lloenflys, Malashaan, Rand, and Snowball were all elected. Soon after, Drecq was elevated to the position of speaker via unanimous consent. Darcness was appointed as deputy speaker by Drecq.

Shakeups in the Executive
HEM, the new deputy chief of state, made his address after being elevated to the position when UnitedPeoplesOfCentrism (UPC) was removed due to inactivity. JayDee was also nominated and confirmed as councilor of World Assembly affairs, a position that was also left open by the inactivity of UPC. JayDee also made his opening address here.

The Senate
The Senate was up to a lot this week, with the new senators debating and discussing many proposals. The Legislation Speaking Right Amendment Act of 2019, proposed by GraVandius last term, was quickly passed by the new Senate, and signed by the first minister. It updated the Senate Protocol Act to reflect the dissolution of the Citizens' Assembly. The Senate Records Act, proposed by Rand last term, passed the Senate and is now on the desk of the first minister. It establishes a role for the Senate clerk, and replaces the Senate Clerk Act of 2012 and the Grammatical, Formatting, and Spelling Errors Act of 2016. The Executive Oversight Amendment of 2019, also proposed by GraVandius last term, was debated on and tabled by the new Senate. A discussion on executive oversight was consequently started on the floors of the Senate. Senator Calvin Coolidge opened a discussion on the process of electing the chief of state, after the process became a subject of debate on the campaign trail. Speaker Drecq also opened up a discussion on overhauling the Communication Platform Administration Act of 2017. The Organisation Amendment Act of 2019, proposed by JayDee, seeks to reform the requirements for maintaining an organization. Speaker Drecq also proposed a repeal of the Proxy Waiver Act, and a related clause in the Criminal Code, arguing that such a provision is no longer necessary. Finally, Senator JayDee proposed two possible amendments that change the timing of elections and length of terms. Headed up by Deputy Speaker Darcness, two discussions between the Senate and parts of the Executive are occurring. These discussions take place as the Senate begins a larger discussion on executive oversight.

N-Day
The annual gameside event, N-day, was held on September 27. Europeia was part of one of the premier factions, UPPERCUTS. Our faction fought valiantly, but we were eventually overwhelmed by 19,000 incoming nukes at the same time from our greatest enemies, the Horsemen of the Apocalypse. However, the event was a rousing success and all had fun.

Articles and Broadcasts
The Europeian Broadcasting Corporation (EBC) released two articles this week. Jokes, Jests, and Jorts, by Bowzin, is about Europeian memes. A Modest Ornithological Proposal - Part 2, by Lloenflys, is about the birb representations of five Europeians. The radio counterpart of the EBC put out a Friends anniversary broadcast, and a broadcast for N-Day. Lloenflys's Gavel released an article on an upcoming Supreme Court case. Cuddles Chronicle released a reflection on the ability of man to excel.
