Europeia's Weekly Update

Senate activity

A total of three bills were passed by the Senate and signed by the first minister this week. The Arnhelm Autonomy Amendment (2019) clarifies the governance of Arnhelm City, legally establishing the City Council's role in relation to the governance of Europeia as a whole. The passage of this act has allowed work to progress in Arnhelm to craft a charter, after which the City Council can get up and running properly. Also added to Europeia's extensive set of laws was the First Minister Title Amendment (2019), which fixed a phenomenon in which a chief of state retained the title "right honourable" for life, whereas a first minister could do so only during their term. The new legislation has now brought the titling of first ministers on par with that of chiefs of state. Finally, the Administration Omnibus Act (2019) replaced the Communications Platform Administration Act (2017) and the Forum Administration Act (2019) to combine them into one piece of law, albeit with some effective changes - namely, granting the administration team power over discord moderation and moving control of in-character rule violations to the attorney general.

First minister's weekly wrap-up

On Tuesday October 22, First Minister Pichtonia released his weekly wrap-up, giving a summary of government activity in the past two weeks. In his overview, he addressed concerns about the Ministry of Recruitment, as well as updating the public on each ministry's output and plans, such as the Ministry of Culture's Halloween festival, which has now been formally announced.

Ovation of OnderKelkia

OnderKelkia's ovation has recently concluded, with the festivities to celebrate this legend of the Europeian justice system organised by the Ministry of Culture a great success. Aexnidaral, Olde Delaware, and JayDee with Maowi all released addresses reflecting on OnderKelkia's achievements, and Lloenflys granted the nominee a prestigious "honourary bird," as well as recounting the true history of the world to showcase OnderKelkia's influence. There were discussions on OnderKelkia's qualities and legacy, justice- and legislation-related spam games, and an address from the awardee himself, in which he thanked the organisers of the event, spoke about his own experiences in Europeia, and concluded warmly with an expression of "great pride and respect in the achievements of Europeia as a political unit more widely."

Ministry of Recruitment under scrutiny

On Wednesday October 23, Sopo, deputy editor of the private media outlet E-News Network, released an opinion piece for that organisation criticising recently confirmed Minister of Recruitment Brí Shakespeare (Brí) for his perceived lack of activity so far. At the time said article was published, Brí had not sent any recruitment telegrams since his appointment. First Minister Pichtonia responded to some of the criticism, referring the author to his latest weekly wrap-up, but acknowledged that there was indeed justification behind the concern and promised that "we will earnestly discuss all concerns and I expect that there will be visible progress, starting this week." The following day, Brí made a thread within the Ministry of Recruitment's forum with an update on his activities as minister, providing screenshots showing him asking his recruiters to recruit. The discussion moved to this thread, with three citizens - Sopo, Lethen, and Bowzin - promising to match Brí in terms of recruitment telegram numbers. By the end of the week, the minister had sent over 300 telegrams, stating that "I tend to always do quite a few in one go." The call to action from prominent members of the citizenry therefore appears to have had a positive effect - a wonderful example of Europeia using its private media to effectively push for change.

Fantastic work. I know this was last minute, but you've done exceptionally.

Another wonderful edition! And because I love taking credit from Sopo, I may add that the grand hall thread on the Recruitment Ministry may have played a part in this accountability. :p
