Another Wave of New Nations
Recruiting efforts continued after last week’s spike in new nations, culminating in a second, smaller spike of new nations on April 30. Consistent recruiting levels combined with this spike to reach 1830 nations in the region on May 1, the highest level since August 2016.

Ministry Updates
  • Minister of Interior McEntire posted an update on interior’s efforts, thanking recruiters and introducing new recruitment incentives.
  • Minister of Communications Hezekon announced that Lloenflys stepped down as managing director of the “A Little Legalese” column, being replaced by United Vietussia.
  • Minister of Culture Olde Delaware announced on Discord that Darcness’ ovation will be commencing on May 4.

Chief of State Election
The standing period continues in the chief of state election, with it shaping up to be an exciting and competitive race. Sopo and Maowi was the first ticket to stand, followed by Malashaan and Dax. Olde Delaware also stood but has since unstood. A debate between both candidates was also held on the night of May 1.

Other Elections
A large, diverse field with a mix of new and old citizens stood for a single Senate seat in the senate by-election. Candidates McEntire and GraVandius went through to a run-off election after McEntire narrowly won a plurality of votes. McEntire won the run-off in a very tight contest.

The city of Arnhelm has seen a tight mayoral election this week. After a week of campaigning and an exciting debate, city councillors hit the polls to decide who would be the next mayor of Arnhelm. The poll closed with candidates Carathetopia and ForilianSupervisor tied in the lead, leading to a run-off between the two. ForilianSupervisor has since conceded.

Senate Activity
The Senate had a busy week, with discussion on executive modernisation and the judicature act continuing, and the passing of the Chief of State Election Amendment, which is now before the First Minister and Chief of State to be signed. Senator Calvin Coolidge also introduced the Honoured Citizens' Day Bill, which has moved to its second reading.

Community Betterment Award
The Office of the Supreme Chancellor announced the awarding of the second iteration of the community betterment award to Pichtonia. This followed earlier calls for nominations from the citizenry.

Arnhelm Activity
The city of Arnhelm went through an extremely busy week with the passage of the Gas Tax Amendment, Metropolis Amendment, Political Parties Ordinance, Arnhelm Elections Amendment, and Education Ordinance. Debating also continues on several other bills. The passage of the Political Parties Ordinance introduced official political parties to Arnhelm for the first time, leading to the registration of many parties.

Papal Election
Weeks of campaigning, debating and a primary culminated on April 27 when Minister of Culture Olde Delaware opened polls for the papal election. After some controversy, Calvin Coolidge, the representative of The Shrine of Swift, ended Sopo’s reign as pope with a narrow victory.
