Europeia's Weekly Update (August 9, 2019)

August 9 Update
New Terms and Mid-Terms

Written by Maowi

New Chief of State
Europeia's new Chief of State Prim was elected by the Senate on Monday, with a unanimous vote in favour save for an abstention on the part of UnitedPeoplesOfCentrism (UPC), who was confirmed as Prim's deputy. Their campaign prominently featured intentions of building Europeia's interregional presence, whether through the World Assembly and the World Assembly Legislative League (WALL) or by producing regular foreign affairs updates. Prim released his opening address on Tuesday and has submitted his nominations for office to the Senate for confirmation: Lloenflys for justice (2nd chair), HEM for grand admiral of the Europeian Republican Navy (ERN), Rachael for the newly created position of councillor of NationStates forum engagement, Sopo for councillor of foreign affairs, and UPC for councillor of world assembly affairs.

Grand Admiral’s Closing Address
Grand Admiral HEM released his closing address for the past chief of state term on Monday. He reflected on a term in which the main focus was "building excitement" and "setting the stage," and proposed targets for the upcoming term including doubling the size of the Navy and integrating the reserves entirely into its structure. The last term did not, in his opinion, leave the ERN where it ought to end up, but "our bases are staffed, the lights are on, we are locked and loaded." Next term, also under HEM (subject to the Senate's vote), must build on the foundations already in place, and the ERN must endure.

Sentimental Tidings and Awards
Outgoing Chief of State Kuramia gave a heartfelt speech of farewell from the post she had held for five months (not including her time as president prior to the executive split). She recalled remarkable moments during her tenure such as the armistice with the New Pacific Order, praised Europeia's sense of camaraderie, and thanked her co-workers past and present. Although she intends to take a break from foreign affairs for some time, she has indicated that it will likely be a temporary one.

She also used this speech to give out various awards. To Prim, she awarded the Order of Influence for his exceptional work to promote Europeian interest in World Assembly affairs (such as his detailed and informative article about the history of WALL), as well as the Order of the Sapphire Star, which also went to UPC and Maowi, for their work in the Council of World Assembly Affairs. Finally, she and First Minister Pichtonia jointly granted the prestigious honour of an Ovation to Chief Justice OnderKelkia for his highly influential work in and the lasting impact he has left on the Court and the Justice system. His Ovation was later confirmed unanimously by the Senate, and the Ministry of Culture is planning the ceremony.

First Minister’s Mid-Term Address
First Minister Pichtonia released his mid-term address, "Racing Down the Autobahn," last Sunday. He gave a thorough summary of each ministry's activities so far this term, supplemented with a jam-packed calendar displaying domestic government work, and spoke about his involvement with the Senate. Despite his positivity about the work done by all the ministries - he affirmed that "truly, Europeia is doing well right now" - he stated his belief that the time remaining in this term would not be sufficient for him and his cabinet to fulfil their vision for the region. This led to his announcement that he would be standing again for the post of first minister next term.

Separately, Minister of Radio Carathetopia hosted a mid-term question and answer broadcast with Pichtonia covering topics including his plans for the future and his thoughts on his current term so far.

Ministry of Recruitment Opening Address
Following Whitmark's resignation from the position of Minister of Recruitment, his replacement, Brí Shakespeare, gave his opening address outlining plans for making the most of the remainder of the term. He has instituted a moving weekly telegram target policy which makes sure recruiters are always motivated and challenged but which accounts for variations in rhythm throughout the year. In order to fight the summer slump, he also wishes to focus on hiring new recruits into the recruitment team themselves to capitalise on every success, and will release an updated version of the streamlined messaging strategy he introduced as deputy minister.

Ministry of Culture Mid-Term Address
Minister of Culture DictatorAnna10 (DAX) published her ministry's mid-term address on Tuesday. The term has been a busy one so far for the ministry, with a writing competition already under its belt, as well as plenty of Weekend (and Weekday) Games. However, the biggest event is getting underway - the 1,000,000 Post Palooza celebrates a million forum posts - and the Haxball league schedule is up. In her address, DAX spoke of plans going forward to collaborate with the Ministry of Integration, using game-side polls to draw players to the forum, and with the Ministry of Radio. Expect plenty more fun and games from the Ministry of Culture.

Very good write-up, Maowi. I'm happy to see you put this much effort into it. We did have a lot of things happen this week, which helped the length of the article, but you still did a great job managing to wrestle everything into a small box. Great job!

Perfectly captures the changes in the Executive the past week. Good write up, Maowi!
