Executive Modernisation Referendum Has Passed
The long-debated and awaited Executive Modernisation Omnibus Bill, containing changes which would unite our current split-executive under a presidency, was passed by the Senate in a 7-1-1 vote earlier this week. Upon passage, a petition started which reserved the People's Assent on the bill for a referendum. That referendum ended yesterday, with 70.2 percent of voters (33/47) voting for the bill, easily clearing the requirement of 60 percent. The bill has now been passed into law.
Senate Passes Emergency Amendments
Quickly upon the passage of the bill, the Senate moved to make two emergency amendments to the bill itself. These aimed to clarify the language around the bill's self-repeal mechanism and the ability of the Senate to decide the first presidential election. The latter has gathered a majority of initial support from Senators to be held on the 25th July, 35 days after the most recent General Election.
Mayoral Updates
The Mayor of the city-state of Arnhelm, Forilian, has posted their first mayoral update. Within the update, they detail the new initiatives they have started this term: the Idea Bank, the Starter's Handbook for Arnhelm, and the Arnhelm Crisis event.
EuroPride 2020
The EuroPride 2020 festival has officially started this week. The related subforum opened, with 10 LGBTQ+-related speeches from leaders such as the First Minister Istillian, Chief of State Malashaan, and Supreme Chancellor Lethen. The discord server has also opened, which has been hosting general games and houses over 100 members. There has also been a Pride broadcast held by the Ministry of Radio
First Minister & Senate Elections Standing Opened
The First Minister and General Senate elections have opened at the same time for this election cycle. As of the time of writing, the First Minister election currently has 3 tickets submitted: Peeps/Forilian, Xecrio/Ervald, and McEntire/Monkey. The Senate election currently has 9 candidates, of which 7 have posted platforms: Verteger, Forilian, GraVandius, incumbent Senator Darkslayer, South East Centralia, Lime, incumbent Senator Prim, Pichtonia, and incumbent Senator Calvin Coolidge.
EBC Satisfaction Poll Results Posted
Coinciding with the end of the two terms, the EBC End of Term Satisfaction Poll Results for both the Senate and the Domestic Executive have been released. The results contain analyses on how the poll respondents viewed the success of each senator and ministry, including direct and anonymous comments.
