This is the EBC Weekly Update, providing a quick recap of the past week's important events in Europeia and abroad.
Presidential Election Approaches in Europeia
With roughly 10 days remaining in the term, standing is due to open any day now for Europeia’s next Presidential election. Incumbent Grea Kriopia has now consecutively served as either Vice President or President for nearly a year, a historic stint in Executive leadership on the heels of upc’s long service as President. With a previous declaration that she would not seek re-election during the midterm State of the Republic address, a recent poll from the Sentinel indicates that Minister of Foreign Affairs Ervald and Vice President Sincluda are best positioned for a run at 34 Goldenblock Avenue should they decide to stand.
Treaty of the Grouse Official Between Europeia and the Outback
Earlier this week, Europeia and the Outback affirmed the ratification of their new mutual defense treaty, the Treaty of the Grouse. The treaty had been proposed several weeks ago and made its way through various ratification mechanisms, solidifying the friendship of the two regions after mutual collaboration on region-building, recruitment, FA, and much more.
Pax Polaris Occidens Dissolves
Following the West Pacific's departure from the Pax Polaris Occidens (PPO), the remaining signatories consisting of the Augustinian Alliance (AA), The North Pacific, and New Pacific Order (NPO) announced they had agreed to dissolve the PPO as the agreement could no longer function as intended. The PPO's dissolution comes in the aftermath of turbulent gameplay events that saw AA/NPO lose several diplomatic partners and treaties which the statement acknowledged, noting that "the current division of international relationships" made it difficult for PPO obligations to be upheld. The end of the PPO signals a shift in gameplay going forward as one of the major blocs operating in foreign affairs.
New Prime Minister in the South Pacific
The South Pacific (TSP) entered election season starting April 15th and saw two candidates enter for Prime Minister, Sporaltryus aka ProfessorHenn and Belschaft. Both candidates hoped to succeed outgoing Prime Minister Esfalsa aka Pronoun. ProfessorHenn laid out a vision revitalizing TSP's FA and integration activities while Belschaft produced a campaign authored by ChatGPT that many voters perceived as a joke campaign. Ultimately, ProfessorHenn prevailed in the first round of voting with 19 first preferences in ranked choice voting (52.78%) against competing votes for Belshaft (22.22%) and the option to re-open nominations (25%).
