TEP Delegate Elections Upcoming, Several Platforms Released
The East Pacific will soon have their Delegate elections, and several citizens have seen fit to run for the supreme seat of the Executive so far. Contesting the position so far will be: Aivintis, Vulbania aka Nagisa, The Clockwork Multiverse aka Vix, and American-Cascadia aka I'm Dead (ID). Aivintis and Nagisa respectively have indicated that they launched their bids to introduce new ideas or express their personal beliefs rather than hope to be elected. Other declared candidates have either not yet posted a platform, or are running on joke tickets, and are thus not discussed in this news release.
Popular topics for the election are centered around executive policy on the subjects of culture, media, foreign affairs, the University of The East Pacific, and the military, among other things. Of the four candidates, Aivintis and ID have put forward more complete visions for the region, while Vix focusses mainly on advertising their leadership style without addressing executive policy, and Nagisa chose to present only FA and military ideas focussed on pursuing a pro-raider direction for TEP.
In the more substantial platforms from ID and Aivintis, both agree on the main strength of TEP's executive, which is its media: the Eastern Pacific News Service, or EPNS for short. Through monthly updates, the EPNS provides coverage of domestic as well as foreign affairs, and often includes interviews and segments from TEP officials recounting recent activity. It also frequently features articles on regional history and politics. The two diverge in their ideas for culture, where ID wants to bump up activity to one cultural event per week, while Aivintis presents grander plans of expanding beyond NationStates to other games. Furthermore, the candidates differ in their approaches to FA. Where Aivintis is in favour of improving their unaligned position in interregional politics and strengthening existing alliances, ID is more focussed on integrating cultural events into FA. The candidates also differ on their views of UTEP, whose increased activity was the subject of a recent EBC article. Aivintis, who is chiefly responsible for the increase in activity, was contrasted by ID's statement that "It’s been quite sad to see UTEP falling towards the wayside in the eyes of the TEP people." The full platforms, which address far more than is mentioned here, are available on the TEP regional forums.
To what extent further dialogue and ideas speak to the minds of TEP citizens will become clear after October 9, when declarations (i.e. nominations) end, a week after which the voting ends.
TSP Elections Conclude, with ProfessorHenn as Winner
The South Pacific's Prime Minister elections which followed the resignation of former prime minister differences-in-differences, more commonly known as Lordnwahs, on September 17, have resulted in Sporaltryus aka ProfessorHenn acceding to the position on September 29. Henn ran uncontested, garnering 25 out of 34 votes cast, with the remaining 9 votes going towards re-opening nominations. Following their victory, Henn posted in the election thread saying: "Thank you to everyone who voted, and helped to continue our proud legacy as NationStates’ Oldest Democracy. An inaugural speech will come soon, along with a government formation. Lots of moving parts to coordinate and figure out."
The EBC wishes Henn the best in managing their region.
NPO and AA Formalise Friendship
The New Pacific Order of the Pacific and the Augustin Alliance have signed a mutual defense and friendship treaty, as announced by Senator of Diplomatic Affairs Belleroph aka Callisto on October 4. Callisto further stated that "the New Pacific Order and the Augustin Alliance are pleased to announce, after multiple years of mutual bonding, friendship and camaraderie, that today we have signed a treaty that will stand as a mutual testament to the sisterhood and solidarity that we share with each other. Despite once being fierce foes, and at times coming to blows, the both of us agree that the past is best left in the past, and that a brighter future lies ahead with the two of us recognizing that standing together, we shall be far stronger than apart." The AA previously signed a non-aggression pact with the Republic of The League and Concord in August.
Europeian Presidential Election
There will be at least three tickets challenging the Presidency in Europeia this election cycle, scheduled for October 11. UPC/GK, Ellenburg/Cordova I, and Vor/Andusre have so far entered the race, the former two of which have already released their platforms.
World Assembly
The proposal up for vote currently in the General Assembly is titled "Repeal "Concerning Financial Fraud". The ministry of World Assembly Affairs recommends a vote for the proposal, stating: "With WA resolutions already covering financial protections and tort reforms, GA #177 has now become redundant. Therefore, to allow member states to implement more balanced compensation systems the ministry recommends to vote FOR this resolution."
The Security Council is currently voting on a proposal titled "On Embassy Collection." The MoWAA again recommends a vote for the proposal, saying that "Collection does not foster regional growth, in a cultural or political sense, rather chipping away at the credibility and level of trust required for an embassy, which are especially useful for smaller regions." Don't forget to check out the MoWAA's subforum for the full IFVs!
