Lazarus Uncovers Infiltrator
The government of Lazarus reported on November 6 that it has uncovered "that the nation Debussy was getting endorsed unusually highly, and later evidence delivered to us confirmed their identity as Feux." New Rogernomics, Vice Delegate of Lazarus as well as Chair of Council of Lazarene Security, further states that they "took swift action to eject and ban Debussy (or Feux) from Lazarus, rather than risk regional security." The alleged impostor, Feux, is well-known interregionally for their involvement in infiltrating Osiris as well as Lazarus under the name 'Adytus' many years prior.
President UPC commented on the issue, saying: "Well done on the Lazarene government/security apparatus -- this was incredibly unexpected, especially as someone who knew [Debussy] personally through cards for years; I am glad that such decisive action was taken to resolve this issue once it was identified."
Europeia Prepares for General Election
The Europeian Senate Elections are set to begin November 15, in six days time. Standing for candidates was opened by Chancellor Pland Adanna two days ago with his speech 'Try'. So far, four citizens have stood, with two platforms, those of Prov and Constie aka John Laurens. You can find them here and here, and any upcoming ones from other candidates in the Oval Room subforum. This is the first General Election that will feature Approval Voting, the introduction of which passed by referendum on October 21 under a rewrite of the Elections Act. To summarise, there will be as many seats in the upcoming Senate as there will be candidates achieving a majority vote (but no less than 5), with citizens being able to cast as many votes as there are candidates.
The issues for this General Election will at least include the Run-Off Improvement Act (2024), which is the only bill currently being handled by the sitting Senate. The candidates that have stood but have not yet posted a platform consist of Cordova I, Empire of Caldrasa, Ambrella aka Sopo who are all current Senators, as well as Calvin Coolidge and Sanjurika, both former Senators. If you are a Europeian citizen, don't forget to vote come November 15!
PA Re-Opens Poll Result Visibility Debate
A proposal by GraVandius submitted to the People's Assembly continues to see debate in the institution. The proposal suggests making the vote tally of public referenda "publicly viewable while the vote is ongoing." GraV's motivation is that "referenda were incidentally added to the scourge of hidden voting results a few years ago for seemingly no other reason but to expand the march of sad and uncool things in the region. I don’t really see any practical purpose for this and given the increase in the frequency of referenda and the decrease in political engagement, this represents a moderate step to hopefully changing the later without reopening the entire can of worms." Assembly Chair HEM has proposed to start a motion to table the proposal, and only continue debate on the subject should that motion fail. GraVandius, Hyanygo, and Comfed Atlas disagree with starting a motion to table, with Comfed calling tabling "a silly procedure to have in the People's Assembly anyways, because it effectively allows a minority to shut down debate on a proposal."
World Assembly
The proposal currently up for vote in the General Assembly is titled "Regarding Artificial Islands." The proposal seeks to regulate what claims the construction of artificials islands allows on "marine resources" and "jurisdiction over their surrounding waters." The Ministry of World Assembly Affairs has not yet published an IFV on the proposal, the vote of which will end in about 4 days time.
In the Security Council, no proposals are currently at vote.
As always, make sure to check out upcoming IFVs in the MoWAA subforum!
