Calvin Coolidge Becomes a Six-Time Citizens' Assembly Chair

(Europeia - July 18, 2017) - On July 17, the election for a new Citizens' Assembly Chair came to an end with Calvin Coolidge clinching a victory over Vlaska by a 25-12 margin of victory. The Chair Election was a quiet one consisting of less discourse than usual and a low voter turnout. The last CA Chair election in June garnered a total of 57 votes, 20 more than what was seen yesterday at the ballot box. This low voter turnout is a bleak reminder of the overall summer inactivity that is hampering the region currently due to a combination of bad luck and an increased political divide.

"The region has been going through a bit of a tough spot these last few weeks, and while the impact has been felt all over the government, it’s been a total disaster for the Citizens’ Assembly," Calvin Coolidge stated in his platform titled 'Long Live', reminding individuals of the horrendous performance of the Citizens' Assembly in the past month which led to a Vote of No Confidence against former Chair Erica. His campaign focused on his depth of experience leading the CA, which he holds a whopping five terms serving over, and the need for greater integration and training strategies through methods such as the Legislative Training Center (LTC).

His opponent in the election, Vlaska, is a rising star within the region and is also the Chair of the Coalition for Responsible Politics. His campaign, which was titled 'Second Times the Charm', focused on similar tenets proposed in Calvin Coolidge's platform. Despite losing to a five time CA Chair by a moderate margin, Vlaska has remained enthused and happy, turning his attention to a run for the Senate.

"Well as most of you know I just lost a Citizens Assembly Chair election against Calvin," Vlaska stated in his Senate platform, capping off his run for CA Chair. "But legislation is my passion."

The Citizens' Assembly is in dire need of a breath of activity. With Erica, the former CA Chair, going inactive due to real life obligations, the Citizens' Assembly was without a fully active leader for several weeks. This greatly curbed discussion and other legislative progress that could have been made by the body. Coming off of Erica's removal from office through a Vote of No Confidence, it is critical that CA Chair Calvin Coolidge makes the most of his term.

He is already off to a strong start with the introduction of the Personal Security Amendment (2017) which would explicitly define doxxing within our Criminal Code. Despite this, only time will tell if activity within the Citizens' Assembly will be sustained.

This is a wonderful write-up. Here's hoping it's the first of many articles focusing on the success of the CA this term. :D
