CA Three Way
A Summary of Upcoming Chair Election
Written by GraVandius

(Europeia - November 29, 2017) - Standing for the 46th Citizens' Assembly (CA) Chair elections opened Saturday, November 25. Current Chairman Vlaska almost immediately announced that he would not seek re-election.

"It’s time to give someone new a chance to gain experience in leadership and legislation that this position brings,” the outgoing chairman said. This left the field wide open for other Europeians to throw their hats into the ring.

So far, three reputable candidates have stood. The first potential successor to Vlaska is Snowball. He served as the Media Deputy for Vlaska and recently published the tenth issue of the CA Mockingbird newspaper. He seeks to continue on the path of an ordinance review that was started three chairs ago under Calvin Coolidge. The two changes he proposes are the appointment of a second deputy to provide audio content for the Mockingbird and to do Discord outreach to get people to join the Legislative Training Center.

The second candidate is up and coming newcomer, Airbus. He is the first recipient of the CA's new Order of Diligence. His platform is the most comprehensive of the three. He initially posted it in only an off-site magazine creator, but posted the text to the forums at the request of Speaker of the Senate Drecq. Airbus intends to create multiple specific un-official, awards to be distributed out to the Assembly, including Debator of the Term and Author of the Term. In addition to this he plans to revitalize efforts to create a better curriculum for the Legislative Training Center. He further wants to move the Mockingbird to issuu for a more aesthetically pleasing format. Airbus also answered a few questions, indicating that in contrast to Snowball, radio programming would not be a priority. The platform as a whole received a lot of high praise from notable members such as Skizzy Grey, Sopo, and Aexnidaral Seymour. This type of support could make him the front-runner going into election day.

The final candidate is former Interior Minister XIV. His platform focused on his experience training newcomers in Interior, the Navy and Foreign Affairs. He feels that the assembly has gotten off track. "Recently we have seen some bad legislation passed, we've had chairs who have focused more on the quantity of what was passed over the quality of what was passed and I think that in doing so we have missed the point," he said, while singling out the Decorum Ordinance as an example. A recently passed amendment accidentally removed everything in the ordinance except section two, requiring the entire ordinance be repealed and replaced. XIV has a very specific legislative agenda for his potential upcoming term. He wants to add the newly passed Order of Diligence to the Awards and Honors Act. He additionally seeks to pass his Omnibus Ordinance Amendment which has been on the floor since the beginning of Vlaska's term. This Omnibus would sweep away what he sees as unnecessary limits on the power of the Chair.

Voting for the CA Chair opens on December 1.

Nice effort synthesising in the most accurate way what the voters can expect of the candidates before voting opens tomorrow. This is deserving of a round of applause
