Rotasu Confirmed as Minister of Culture
New Minister as EuroPride Preparation Ramps Up

Written by Sanjurika

Rotasu was unanimously confirmed as Minister of Culture by the Senate on May 27, 2021. The confirmation comes after former Minister Monkey’s resignation due to real life commitments. Rotasu is a longtime member of the Culture Ministry, and was tapped for the Minister of Culture job under the Calvin Coolidge presidency. However, about a month into the term, he took the decision to take a step back from Europeia to focus on other commitments.

On May 23, Monkey posted a short weekly update, along with a formal resignation. In their address, Monkey claimed a “lack of passion, energy, and time…” was the reason for their resignation, primarily due to real life commitments. President Kazaman quickly covered the vacant spot, announcing the nomination of Rotasu as Minister of Culture in the Swakistek Conference Hall. This comes as the Ministry is making preparations to host the 2021 EuroPride event next month.

The same day of Monkey’s resignation, President Kazaman submitted his nomination for the position to the Senate. The questions asked during the period were mainly centered around weekend games and the apparent decline in participation. Headed by Senator Calvin Coolidge, who asked “...what progress has been made ‘event planning, and hosting weekend games’, per your job description, so far this term?”. The nominee responded with an answer that identified two main problems with how weekend games currently function. A quick back and forth between the Senator and the nominee occured, with Rotasu concluding that “...we should aim for greater participation and quality interactions between members of our community over the number of games we host. And moving forward we should seek to diversify the type of events the Ministry of Culture is hosting”. Senator HEM also provided his thoughts, but had no questions.

Two other questions asked were posed by Speaker Forilian and Senator Sanjurika. The Speaker asking a question of activity, with which Rotasu confirmed their confidence in being able to take on the role in a responsible manner. Senator Sanjurika posed a question about Thread of the Week and Theme Week initiatives, which had seen limited success under former Minister (and current Vice-President) UPC. Rotasu responded saying “I think we need to take another look, a Thread of the Week would be a bit much, and I feel as if the best approach would be to come up with a multitude of ways to engage the community”.

Following those questions, with Senators confirming that they were ready to vote, Speaker Forilian moved the nomination to vote on May 27, with the final vote being unanimously in favor of the nominee. On his confirmation, Rotasu said “I'd like to thank President Kazaman for the wonderful opportunity to be able to come back to the Cabinet!” Minister Rotasu faces an ambitious rest of term as laid out by Kazaman/UPC during their presidential campaign. As EuroPride reaches the final stages of preparation, Minister Rotasu will also have to contend with more regional events coming Europeia’s way.

This is a timely article (even though this isn't a timely comment!). Well done, and congratulations to Rotasu, let's hope RL doesn't hold them back this time!!
