Celebrating Our Relationship With The United Kingdom

Written by Monkey

Europeia and the United Kingdom concluded its exchange celebration this weekend as a part of Europeia’s region of the week program. The two regions have been long standing allies since 2017, after the Treaty of Westminster was passed under President Darcness. President Sopo announced the festivities on August 9. When asked for comment, President Sopo remarked that “ The United Kingdom is a valued ally and great friend to Europeia. We invited them to become our region of the week to strengthen our relationship while getting to know each other on a social level by having fun". The week-long celebration was abundant with a variety of planned activities to allow for citizens of both regions to interact and engage with each other. Minister of Culture United Vietussia hosted several weekend games in conjunction with our British friends as well as running a couple of rounds of hunger games. Deputy Minister of Radio Pichtonia hosted a radio show where he was joined by UK friends Matthew Mountbatten and Maddie, discussing topics such as the Drew Boom, overviewing their Westminster model of government, and even briefly mentioning foreign affairs and Independence. In an attempt to help citizens of both regions learn more about each other, the EBC reached out to the United Kingdom’s media outlet, the BBC, to exchange a list of the top 5 most important events that have occurred this year in our respective regions. The following list, in no particular order, are the 5 most influential events that occurred this year in the United Kingdom.

1. The coronation of HM King George VIII
The United Kingdom traditionally passes down the crown to a new monarch every couple of years or so, and this year saw the abdication of Edward X. This was a particularly notable event because both Edward X and George VIII have played a large part in modernizing the monarchy and utilizing their influence to drive regional activity. The United Kingdom’s coronation ceremony was also a large cultural celebration that saw widespread participation and engagement.

2. Launching Constituent Nations
The United Kingdom’s Parliament passed the devolution act this year, establishing England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland as separate, smaller sub-communities within the region, comparable to Europeia’s former state project. The impetus for this proposal was to increase activity within each region as well as to allow citizens to find a sense of community within the smaller, closely-knit constituent nations. Similar to the former states program in Europeia, each constituent nation was allowed access to devolved authorities so citizens would be able to shape their own government within the constituent nation. Scotland and Wales were the first two to devolve, while England is currently seeing a push towards a devolved government.

3. Establishment of ‘The Hreater Good’ religion
The United Kingdom also has a strong cultural component of its community, abundant with unique religions. Sacul Astoria, a citizen of the United Kingdom, founded the Temple to the Hreater Good, and was met with immediate pushback by a fellow ‘frenemy’ Akillian Talleyrand (better known as Edward X, the previous monarch of the United Kingdom). The Hreater Good was quickly denounced as a secretive cult and condemned during the reign of Edward X. Since the condemnation, the religious strife in the United Kingdom has escalated, with both sides roleplaying a military standoff in Stirling, Scotland. The conflict was further complicated when a shadowy Scottish nationalist terrorist group, The Watch, entered the religious battle.

4. Debate Over Cabinet Reform
Earlier this year, the United Kingdom amended their constitution to allow the prime minister full control over the cabinet, a change from the previous system. Shortly afterwards, the traditional cabinet composed of the British Home Office, Culture Office, and Ministry of Justice were replaced by a new cabinet composed of the Forums Office, Discord Office, and Onsite Affairs Office. Only the Foreign Office was not modified. This reform still maintains to be a point of contention, with this issue being heavily discussed during prime ministerial campaigns.

5. Expansion of Parliament Based Off of Drew Boom
The Parliament has been one of the most long standing and unchanged governmental institutions within the United Kingdom. With the influx of new citizens brought in by the Drew Boom, the United Kingdom shifted to a system that allowed for fluctuations and modifications in the number of seats in the House of Commons. The new system is based on the number of citizens running in the elections and can range from five to seven seats. The new system affords newer citizens the chance to get involved and engage in the regional legislature.

It is evident that the United Kingdom is an active region that has seen its own variety of influential and significant events this past year, shaping it into the region that it is today. The past week has helped members of both regions get better acquainted with other members, and there is no doubt Europeia will continue to further its relationship with this vibrant community.

Edit: Changed mention of Matt Mountbatten to Matthew Mountbatten
Edit 2: Changed Cabinet section and removed mention of monarch
