[Beyond the Borders] Our Relationship with The North Pacific

Our Relationship with The North Pacific
and the Calvin-McMasterdonia Radio Broadcast

Written by Peeps

Europeia's relationship with The North Pacific henceforth (TNP) has been one of our most longstanding and fruitful partnerships. Our relationship can be summed up in no less than three treaties, they will be presented in chronological order.

The first one is the Treaty of Friendship Between Europeia and The North Pacific signed in 2013. By the time this treaty was signed Europeia already had many ties with TNP. One of Europeia's great heavyweights, r3n, was involved in both regions at the time and was instrumental in its negotiation. Another player involved was McMasterdonia, who was TNP's Minister of Foreign Affairs at the time, and who offered input in the at times feisty ratification process. After many changes, the treaty was presented to the Senate of Europeia and the Regional Assembly of TNP. In the end it passed unanimously in the Senate and passed the Regional Assembly with an at least 14-3 margin.

Secondly there was the World Assembly Legislative League, or WALL, one of our most unique treaties. For those who are not aware what WALL is, it is a partnership of five regions, Europeia, TNP, Balder, Europe, and the International Democratic Union, that serves to increase our influence in the World Assembly. Thought up by the now disgraced Anumia as well as r3n, the WALL treaty gives us enormous leverage in the World Assembly as we can quite frequently "Stomp", immediately down vote a proposal, or "Stack", immediately voting up a proposal, with the combined might of our delegates. Both of those techniques influence later votes, as many nations will vote whichever ]way the current majority leans.

The third treaty signed with TNP was the Independent Manifesto. Although this is more a statement of our shared beliefs of independence and less of a treaty, its importance in our foreign affairs (FA) cannot be understated. This document has the basic tenants of our FA, and is perhaps one of the most important treaties that we have. It shows that both TNP and Europeia are committed to upholding the ideas of Independence as summarized by the Manifesto, and demonstrates one of the main reasons that we have so many common interests with TNP.

Since these documents were signed we have worked with TNP on an uncountable number of projects, one of which was the first Region of the Week! The capstone of the week was the radio broadcast with Calvin and McMasterdonia discussing our relationship.

The first topic which was discussed was WALL. McMasterdonia talked about how it has been a great asset to both of our nations, not only in aiding voting in the General Assembly, but also helping our Foreign Affairs goals in the Security Council. It also helps in the creation of effective writing of resolutions for both branches.

Afterwards, they spoke about how Independence has impacted our relationship. McMasterdonia talked about how when he started playing NS, Europeia was the preeminent foreign affairs and military power and our long-standing stance of independence heavily influenced TNP during that time. In addition he said that we should do more to promote independence and contrast it from imperialism.

They also spoke briefly about how not only our in-character policies but also our out-of-character administrative tools have been used and adapted from both, mainly due to the influence of r3n.

One of the topics they spent some time on was the recent boom in population across Nation States. TNP shared in our struggle about moderating a now very active regional message board and also sent quite a few telegrams for their own purposes. We also both had problems integrating some of the "boom citizens" completely into the region.

The last major topic of discussion was the structure of each other's government and how we could learn from them. TNP follows a structure of a strong Delegate having the roles of Chief of State and Head of Government, with ministers being appointed at the sole will of the Delegate. Calvin spoke briefly about our current double executive structure. McMasterdonia also spoke on why TNP had gotten rid of their Attorney General, which was mainly due to it being an elected office that quite frequently bungled cases. It was replaced by a system in which the Delegate appoints a prosecutor for each individual case which is confirmed by their Regional Assembly made up of every Citizen.

Our relationship with TNP has been storied and successful, from our earliest treaty to today we have cooperated on some in unique and innovative ways to increase our shared influence in the wider NS scene. Hopefully this will continue for the foreseeable future and beyond.

Great first article Peeps! That's a good summary of the radio show!

Nice write-up Peeps, great to see your work published in the EBC! It was fascinating to hear McMasterdonia explore TNP, and have Calvin provide some interesting comparative analysis with Euro - and it's even better to see a good relationship strengthened like this!

Great writing Peeps! This is very informative, and I'm definitely very grateful for the opportunity to have learned more about the history behind one of Euro's most important partnerships.
