[Beyond The Borders] N-Day 5: What is Left After N-Day?

N-Day 5
What is left after N-Day?

Before getting into the subject of this N-day, here are some technical terms you might be interested in:
  • Military Specialist: specializes in building nukes
  • Strategic Specialist: specializes in building shields
  • Economic Specialist: specializes in accumulating more production
  • Radiation: generated when a nation is hit by a nuke, diminishing its production rate

It has been heard in the corners of Arnhelm, during the debates of the Senate, in the gates of the Newcomer’s hall, passing through every ministry: N-Day is here. You have most likely heard about it, but do you know what it is? N-Day is a special event where regions and nations can get together to arm and shield themselves, aiming for the destruction of other factions while protecting themselves and their allies.

As mentioned before, N-day does not go unnoticed in Europeia. This year, we were in the faction Ba Sing Se along with regions such as Osiris, Lazarus, The Black Hawks, Refugia, Lone Wolves United, Caer Sidi, Thalassia, and Social Technocratic Union. After creating the alliance, the next step was deciding who would command such an enormous army of nations, how would they be controlled? Dakota, who participated in her 4th N-Day as commander of Ba Sing Se (BSS) talked about the role of a commander. She explained they were responsible for keeping an eye and directing regions and their respective nations who were part of SBB. She also comments on the commander selection process, stating that: “The head of the executive from each region could say whom they wanted as their commanders and we got those people masked as Commanders.”

This year Ba Sing Se’s goal of receiving no radiation was a big challenge for the faction, also sparking curiosity about the motivation behind it. When Dakota was asked about it she answered: “Ba Sing Se was based on the fictional city of Ba Sing Se (shocking I know) from the series Avatar: The Last Airbender. In ATLA, there's a plotline about There Is No War In Ba Sing Se. By having no radiation, we kept the war out of our city if that makes sense. Basically, we wanted to fit our theme and we did”

To accomplish said goal, commanders of BSS took a defensive position since the beginning of this event by calling for shield production by all specialists. Throughout the nuclear war, commanders kept tabs on other factions’ production of nukes to predict possible attacks. Through these prognostications, commanders made sure there were enough shields to protect the faction, a strategy that proved to be successful considering that there was no radiation received.

Now, how did BSS end up so high (3rd) in the leader board while keeping the object of no radiation? After there was a large force of shields in the faction, commanders gave orders to focus on nuke stocking. When nuke numbers got closer to the shield force of Ba Sing Se, Commander Sakana gave the direction to target last year’s winners, Horsemen of the Apocalypse. Ten minutes later, residents of the faction BSS received the order to launch the massive attack for which they had been preparing for hours, making their way up in the leader board.

From that point on, the leaders of Ba Sing Se made sure to keep a high number of shields to keep their purpose of no radiation. At the same time, commanders periodically focused on the building of nukes, targeting mainly at the Horsemen of Apocalypse. The strategy was launching at nations with the highest shields to break them first and through the following attacks, inflict more radiation on them. BSS had its ups and downs, getting to first place in collaboration with the Augustin Alliance (AA) and bringing down the Horsemen of Apocalypse. However, to preserve the aim of zero radiation, BSS had to focus on shielding while building nukes. This opened a path for AA and An Alliance of Potatoes to get first and second places.

After the brutal war amongst factions, Ba Sing Se’s 4,853 nations stood strong and united. There was no radiation and a total score of 275,832, just approximately 12,000 points away from first place. For those of you who are looking to participate next year, Commander Dakota recommends not forgetting shield production and having lots of fun! This was a year where nations, regions, allies, and enemies all got together to fight and defend each other. All that is left is to wonder how things will turn out in the next N-day.

I barely participated, but this was interesting! I'm sure my nation was burnt to a crisp, though.
