At the moment and for a long time Europeia is and has been divided. Divided between 2 areas. The Gamesiders and the off-siters active on the Forum and the discord. In this article I want to showcase how people feel about this divide and Ideas they have to fix it.
For that I have conducted several short interviews with people asking them a few questions about this divide and how they feel about it
On Sunday a debate broke out about this divide which included accusations that the Goverment is neglecting the Gameside part of Europeia, due to the fact that the Goverment is almost exclusively made up of off-siters
In general I have Ususally asked 3 questions. A question on how they view the divide, if they believe that the Goverment is neglecting Gameside and solutions they would like to see. Occasionally I have also asked some follow up questions. I have interviewed a mix of people from both the Gameside and the off-site.
The people I have interviewed are: @Haunover and @Steium, 2 people that have already criticized the government for its supposed neglect of Gameside. I have also interviews @SkyGreen The Minister of Gameside, Senator @HEM, @Pichvi one of the few people actively involved in gameside and offside, active gamesiders Serturasi and @Atlas and active Off-siter @Prov. President @Grea Kriopia unfortunately declined an interview, but did provide a statement.
Without further ado, here are all the interviews. After the interviews I will also provide a conclusion based on the interviews. Interviews are in random order.
Interview with Haunover:
R: What are your main criticisms at the Goverment, regarding the Divide and! this accused neglect?
H: My main criticism is that they just don't spend enough time around the gameside community, and therefore they don't have an understanding of our culture and we feel alienated by a lack of representation due to us not wanting to become involved in the business of the government. It's causes can be traced to both sides but at the end of the day it's the fact that neither of us have the guts to make the effort and leap into the deep end with the other community.
R: Would you say that this is a recent issue, or that it has been present for a long time?
H:it's been slowly building up over time. originally, a few months ago, we were a happy bunch only separated by our difference of interest. I think it was around the time that Andy was removed from being gameside minister. Less effort was spent on RMB games and events and instead the regional excitement was all on discord or the forums. We miss the involvement and the deserved attention from our "superiors", which makes us have an odd feeling of dislike or hatred towards them and the discord/forums they migrated to.
H: Another criticism is that they don't pay attention to our concerns and complaints/reports we lodge against rule/law violations, making us enforce their laws independently,
R:Could you provide some examples of this behavior? Ignoring complaints and rule violations by people is a heavy accusation
H:for example in gameside requests, i had reported Tyranni for being a ban evader and it took us bringing it up (multiple times) on the RMB the slow reply of the mods for anyone to intervene and ban Tyranni.
obviously I appreciate the fact that the government is a busy institution and they probably have more important matters to attend to- however it just adds to the neglect of our gameside community when they don't reply for days.
R: And the final question of this short interview: Do you have any proposals for how this neglect can be fixed by both sides?
H: I think both sides need to take the leap of faith and make the effort to interact with each other's communities on our opposing platforms. Government officials and simple Discord/Forumsiders can just say hey or have a quick conversation on the RMB every day, and we gamesiders can make an effort to introduce ourselves to the discord and forum communities. That is the most peaceful way we can do it. Obviously both sides have their own priorities, morals and common interests and while these can be a problem, they can also be a learning point. Maybe the discord/forumsiders will learn what a fun, vibrant community we have in the gameside and we gamesiders will come to know the community in our other platforms.
Interview with SkyGreen:
R: How has this divide affected Europeia in your opinion and you spefically, if it had an impact on you?
SG:I'm not really sure I'd describe it as a divide. People engage differently with Europeia; RMB, roleplay, forums, discord. These are all Europeia though, and are innately connected.
I think it's also just important that people engage in the discussions already started on the forums so that we can see what different people see as the cause and potential solutions of this tension.
R: So you dont believe that Europeia is divided? Interesting. What would you say about the accusations that the goverment is neglecting the gameside Part of Europeia, due to the fact that it is primarily made up of people that almost exclusively engage off-site?
SG: I wouldn't say the government neglects gameside. There's a dedicated Ministry of Gameside, alongside other bodies like Outreach, Culture, and the Regional Security Council that all support gameside in different ways. The Ministry of Gameside is relatively new, so it's still developing compared to others with longer institutional history.
As for roleplay, I've taken a somewhat hands-off approach since I'm not actively involved in it and don't want to impose direction without understanding the community's needs. Also, the government's off-site presence is necessary; recruitment, security, and coordination require tools that just aren't available on-site.
R: And you have already partially answered this question, but what would you say is the best solution to bridge this percieved divide in Europeia and to make it so that the people in gameside No longer feel neglected?
SG: I think the best way forward is open discussion, and that's already started on the forums. I'd encourage anyone who feels strongly about this to share their thoughts there. That way we can hear out the different perspectives and work on the solutions together.
R: And what about the people that are not on the Forums for various reasons? What do you recommend to them?
SG: I'd still encourage them to check out the forums if they're able to do so. But if that's not an option, they can always reach out to government members via RMB or telegram.
Interview with Steium:
R:Now steium, you have made it clear that you believe the goverment is neglecting the gameside of Europeia. Why do you believe that?
S: Why do I believe the government is neglecting the gameside of Europeia? Well, let's see, maybe it's because every time gameside citizens put in weeks of effort building culture, running events, enforcing standards, and generally keeping the region lively, they get mentioned as a vague afterthought, if at all, while a Minister parachuting in after the fact gets crowned the savior in an official address.
It's the pattern that speaks volumes. When we rebuilt the Roleplay Region from scratch, no one came to us offering support or even acknowledgement. We didn't do it for recognition, but when official communications start handing out gold stars to people who only got involved after the hard part was done, you'll have to forgive us for raising an eyebrow or two. Add to that the fact that meaningful contributions on the RMB or via roleplay, things that actually retain new members and build community, rarely factor into the broader political conversation unless someone's trying to claim credit for it. It feels like unless you're writing legislation, hopping on Discord, or quoting three policy platforms deep, you're not considered a ''real'' contributor.
So Aye, I believe the government neglects the gameside, not out of malice necessarily, but out of a habitual, systemic overlooking of where the actual day-to-day energy of the region often lives. It's not enough to say ''we value all parts of Europeia'' while consistently acting like one part only matters when it fits into a ministerial bullet point.
R: Would you say that part of this issue is the supposed divide of Europeia into 2 sides, gameside and offsite?
S: Aye, I would say that's exactly part of the issue. There's a clear and persistent divide between the gameside and offsite sides of Europeia, and pretending otherwise doesn't make it disappear. One thrives on spontaneous engagement, creativity, and community-driven interaction on the RMB. The other revolves around structured political processes, forums, Discord, and institutions. Both are valid. The problem is, only one consistently gets treated as the ''serious'' side of Europeia.
When the offsite community talks about ''activity,'' they mean votes, legislation, dispatches, radio shows, policy debates. When gameside citizens post dozens of RP replies, greet new nations, and keep the RMB alive? That’s often treated like background noise unless it can be neatly packaged into a Ministry update.
So Aye, there's a divide, and it's not just cultural, it's structural. The power, visibility, and institutional recognition overwhelmingly sit on the offsite side. Gamesiders are expected to adapt, assimilate, or accept being overlooked. And when they don’t? Suddenly it’s ''dramatic'' or ''divisive'' to point it out.
Maybe instead of brushing the divide under the rug, we should start asking why it exists, and why so many gamesiders feel like they have to shout just to be heard.
R:And how could this issue of a divide and percieved neglect be fixed by both sides in your opinion?
S: How can the divide and perceived neglect be fixed? Well, first off, it starts with acknowledging that the divide exists. Too often the conversation gets shut down with, ''Well, just participate more,'' as if the burden to bridge the gap is entirely on gamesiders. That's not a solution, that's a deflection.
From the government/offsite side, it means actually valuing and integrating gameside contributions as part of the regional structure, not just when they're convenient to highlight in a dispatch or radio show. That means including gamesiders in planning stages, giving them meaningful roles, crediting their work consistently, and understanding that culture and community-building on the RMB is just as important as votes and debates. Stop treating gameside like the ''fun zone'' while the ''real work'' happens elsewhere.
And from the gameside/community side, it means continuing to push for that recognition without retreating. It's easy to say ''screw it'' and disengage when you're overlooked, but that only reinforces the divide. Instead, we need to stay loud, visible, and organised, make sure that when we contribute, it's impossible to ignore. Use the structures that exist (even if they're flawed) and hold people accountable publicly when needed, because clearly, behind-closed-doors hasn't cut it.
Ultimately, both sides need to stop treating each other like separate countries. Europeia isn't ''gameside vs offsite.'' It's one region with a lot of moving parts. The more we recognize the different ways people contribute, the stronger we'll be. But that only works when recognition is earned and given fairly, not when it's reserved for the loudest, most politically visible voices.
Fixing it starts with honesty, credit where it's due, and building a bridge that doesn't only go one way.
Interview with Prov:
R:Would you say that Europeia is divided at the moment between Gameside and offsite?
P: I think at the moment that it isn’t that divided but that no government really cares *that* much in general to take what they say serious.
Some do take it serious but as seen in Grand hall(discord) some leave comments that are just condescending or even invalidating their feelings in general.
R:Sorry to ask, but who exactly are you referring to when you say "they"?
P: By they, I mean Gameside only people/Gameside people who are starting to come into the forums to mainly be kept up to date on off-site stuff
R:So do you believe that the Goverment is neglecting gameside at the Moment?
P:I think it is yes. Of course it can be their progerative regarding Gameside but not giving people the proper credit can very much spur the relationship between them. Gameside people keep us from being raided even if we do not acknowledge it or not, we should treat them with respect when we tell us their grievances.
R: Okay thanks. So how can this issue be fixed in your opinion?
P:I think it first starts with the citizens off-site. Improving their attitude towards Gameside is a key part in having this issue resolved. Of course Gameside mainly people should also talk to off-site mainly people respectfully but that both sides should meet in the middle.
Interview with Atlas
R: Do you believe that Europeia is divided at the moment?
A:Yes, it always was divided in my opinion. There was always this onsite against offsite feeling in my opinion.
R: Would you say that the goverment is neglecting the gameside because of this?
A: Yes. Sure, they post their once in a blue moon, some more regularly, but the feeling of neglect is still there. If I may make a comparison, a year ago or so, maybe two, there used to be regular contests. Now I don't want to say that there weren't any contests under UPC/GK, but it became less and less until there were none.
R:Now on the Debate that took place on Sunday, about miscrediting and the goverment neglecting the gameside, you were often mentioned, but have not yet said something about this. Would you like to say something about the Debate?
A: Only that I personally find it sad that the credit was given to one person despite said person not having done much. Honestly, GK shouldn't have given credit to Sky for reviving the RP, but rather the whole gameside ministry. Or to none, to keep it fair.
R:Okay thanks. And lastly what would you like to see to fix this divide and gamesiders feeling neglected?
A: I'd like to see the gamesiders, especially those who put effort into stuff, to be more appreciated with a "good job" or some kind of symbolic pat on the back. I think that isn't too much to ask for.
Interview with Pichvi
R: Do you believe that Europeia is divided at the moment?
Pi:Yes, Europeia is currently divided. (If you mean the divide between gamesiders and off-siters) Culturally, both of these groups are separate and both of them have different ways of playing the game.
R:Would you say that this divide has caused any issues?
Pi: Of course this divide has caused issues, especially the issue of us gamesiders feeling excluded from government and not given proper recognition. The cultural element of both of the groups having different "personalities" is also causing the issue of alienation.
R: Speaking of that, would you say that what the Goverment is doing for gameside is sufficient?
Pi:No, especially for role-play, all of the role-play is community made even though an RP map has been worked on for a term and a half now
The role-play region is so ignored that it uses the old Europeian flag lol.
R:And finally How should these issues be fixed in your opinion?
Pi: With more work from the Ministry of Gameside. Perhaps making a gamesider minister or deputy minister would help, as they'd have more knowledge of the gamesider culture and would understand the gripes gamesiders have with the government. Making more stuff for the RP would also help.
Interview with Sertu
R: Would you say that Europeia is divided between Gameside and Offsite at the moment?
S:I don’t know a lot about this but I believe it very much is.
R: Do you believe that the goverment is doing enough for the Gameside?
S:I think that they probably aren’t doing enough for us, as they aren’t even here a lot and I rarely see change here.
R: What would you like to see to fix this issue?
S: I maybe would enjoy it if the government were more active and informed us of more things.
I feel like us gamesiders don’t have as many ways to communicate and understand the government.
Interview with Hem
R:The first question is: Do you personally believe that Europeia is divided at the moment?
H: I think there are some communities who are, to some degree, are divided. There are clearly a number of gameside nations who have put a lot of time and energy into their areas of interest who feel unsupported. That being said, past divides in our region have been even more explosive. As of now, it seems like everyone is committed to figuring out this problem together. I am hopeful that's how it plays out.
R:Would you say that the Goverment is doing enough for gameside?
H:I think there are clearly people who would say "no" but I am not sure. The ROI of gameside is very nebulous. There have been times in our history where we've invested a lot of time and energy to trying to figure out gameside and roleplay, and the only reward has been headaches and drama. That being said, I think this time is different. There are a lot of passionate and smart people who are proud to be Europeians and roleplay in Europeia but want a little bit more. I would encourage those folks to think about what they specifically want. I am all ears, but the more this moves from a vague sense of discontent to specific "asks" the more productive future conversations will be imo.
R: And finally How would you personally like to fix the divide?
H:Well, I am introducing a Senate resolution this week that commends and honors some of our gameplay-focused nations for their contributions to roleplay. I hope that helps. Otherwise, all I can do is brainstorm ideas and solutions. There is a thread in the Grand Hall discussing this issue that I hope everyone interested will contribute to!
R:And the people that are only ln gameside? How should they Involve themself?
H:Well, I would ALSO encourage them to join the forum and get citizenship and post in that thread! Ultimately, political power and influence comes from getting involved in the system and using your voice. As a Senator, it's hard to represent people who don't show up.
But, my telegram inbox is always open to thoughts, and I know the RMB had discussed this matter before too. The worst thing is to keep your opinions to yourself and be embittered, so please speak up!
Statement From Grea Kriopia
Europeia is a diverse community between its on-site and off-site platforms, and it's obvious we have more work to do to bridge those groups. We need to remember that the contributions of one citizen do not take away from another and that we're all driven by the same love of Europeia even as we experience our region in different ways. I encourage all citizens to contribute to the discussion thread started here(https://forums.europeians.com/index.php?threads/euros-on-site-off-site-relationship.10069365/) with observations and suggestions so that we can channel this heated discourse into meaningful change."
So In conclusion we have established that there are a lot of different takes on this situation, but it is generally agreed that the divide is something that needs to be fixed. And there are also many different ideas for resolving this situation. And what most of them have in common is talking. Having discussions, informing people, interacting with the other side in this divide are all viable strategies to bridge the divide. And there are many more strategies and solutions out there. All in all I hope that this article has been able to help you in some way. To inform you, to help you decide on how you proceed or anything Else.
Thank you for reading this.
Cheers, Renegade
