First 2021 Mayor of Arnhelm Elected
Sopo Elected with a Large Margin

Arnhelm, January 3 - In the first Europeian election of 2021, the councillors of Arnhelm elected Sopo as the mayor for the month of January.
Election Commissioner Forilian opened standing for the elections on December 29, 2020, and two candidates stood for the position of mayor: GraVandius and Sopo. The former was previously mayor during February 2020, while the latter joined Arnhelm recently. Furthermore, both candidates ran within political parties, namely Europa Razoável for GraVandius and The Rent is Too Damn High Party for Sopo.
One day later, both platforms had been posted. GraVandius highlighted issues such as unemployment, lack of social security and lack of public health insurance, and proposed solutions as well as taxes to fund these projects. Furthermore, GraVandius suggested to suspend the Europeian Space Program, noting the program didn't fit with the rest of the roleplay but received a fair amount of money in every budget.
Sopo's platform was centered at the issue of overly high rents in Arnhelm, as seen by the title and party name. Other issues mentioned were rampant crime, unemployment, and outdated infrastructure, somewhat similar to GraVandius' platform. However, there were some notable differences, such as Sopo's support of the space program, and the fact that Sopo ran an unorthodox roleplay-centric platform under his Councillor Bio. Many councillors commented on the platforms, although Sopo obtained more comments than GraVandius and seemed to get more support before the voting opened.
The voting phase was opened by Forilian on January 1, 2021. Sopo received 14 votes against GraVandius' 3, and no councillor voted to re-open nominations. Therefore, Sopo won with over 80 percent of the vote, one of the largest vote margins in Arnhelm history. In total, 17 out of 28 councillors voted in this election, a turnout of 60 percent. After winning the election, Sopo appointed former Mayor Rotasu as his deputy, and released an opening statement explaining his future plans for the city-state.
