EBC Throwback Poll: Last Senate Gets Good Marks

EBC Throwback Poll: Last Senate Gets Good Marks
All Senators, Bar Ellenburg, See Wide Approval

Written by McEntire

Already a few weeks into the current Senate term, the EBC wanted to throw it back to see how the last Senate fared when all was said and done. The last Senate was notably productive, but not without controversy, passing the Bar Association Omnibus Act which has now led to two referenda. According to EBC polling, the region gives the last Senate high marks for activity, which is perhaps not surprising given that much of the Senate was brought back for another term.

This poll ran from May 10-16, and had 15 respondents. This is somewhat lower than previous polls, so should not be taken as a representative sample of the view of the entire Europeian populace.

Overall Approval: 67%

They seem to have maintained very nice activity levels throughout the term
This approval rating is roughly in line with the 70% approval rating that the previous Senate scored, although the "very satisfied" responses are higher, indicating a higher level of enthusiasm. The sole commenter praised the Senate's level of activity, which as we'll see below is a commonly shared sentiment.

Speaker Lime Approval: 73%

Lime did a good job

Li[m]e failed to set his own agenda for the back half of the term

Did some good work getting everything passed in time, and working with other Senators.

Lime's approval stands ten points above the full Senate, and his "very satisfied" number is higher, although so is his "dissatisfied" number. This result is roughly in line with Lime's reputation as a somewhat polarizing figure, although he won the only approval poll that matters when he was re-elected to the Speakership by his colleagues.

Senator Prim Approval: 67%

Active and engaged. Was a key Senator in this past term.

Prim, a Senate mainstay since summer of last year, clocks an approval rating much in line with the Senate as a whole, although his "very satisfied" number is slightly higher. Prim's continuing presence in the Senate mirrors that of figures like Lloenflys or Malashaan, although his approval rating is not quite universal.

Senator Ellenburg Approval: 47%

Grew more confident and became his own Senator during the last half of the term.

Ellenburg has the lowest - although technically still net-positive - approval of the Senate. This is perhaps not surprising, given that Senator Ellenburg was the only Senator to lose re-election. He faced some pushback in his campaign thread for signing onto a statement that tanked UPC's nomination to the Regional Security Council. This could account for some of the disapproval we see here, as well as some of the disapproval with Speaker Lime, who also signed onto the statement.

Senator Seva Approval: 73%

Forms response chart. Question title: How satisfied were you with the performance of Senator Seva?. Number of responses: 15 responses.

Seva, who entered the Senate through a by-election mid-term, clocks one of the higher approvals of the poll. Without any comments, it's not immediately clear why this approval is so high, but it suggests that if Seva had decided to run again he'd have had a good shot at being re-elected.

Senator UPC Approval: 80%

Forms response chart. Question title: How satisfied were you with the performance of Senator UPC?. Number of responses: 15 responses.

Finally, our highest-rated Senator is UPC, who clocks 80% approval on his way to being re-elected to his current half-term. UPC did not garner any comments, but has been praised for his gameside expertise and key role in preparing the region for the Frontier transition. UPC's popularity may also be due to non-Senate related personal popularity due to his creation of the new manual recruiting tool, which has been praised for its ease of use and general great vibes.

On the Issues - are you satisfied with the Senate's....
Activity? 93%
Handling of executive oversight and confirmation hearings? 60%
Handling of legislation related to Frontier? 73%
Handling of legislation related to legal system/education? 67%

On the issues, Europeia clearly approved of the Senate's work. Activity was the most highly commended aspect of this Senate, with 40% describing themselves as "very satisfied." There was some opposition to the Senate's oversight/confirmation style - perhaps due to the kerfuffle around UPC's nomination to the Regional Security Council - with 20% disapproving, as well as to the Senate's effort on legal reform, with just over a quarter disapproving. Other than that, however, these are strong numbers for the business of the previous Senate.

Thanks for taking this up, McEntire! I know it’s kind of late, but every Senate deserves some feedback. :) Excellent analysis too!

Great write up! It looks like only Comms staff can see the graphs again, not sure if that’s easy to fix.

Yeah, you can't copy the images because they're saved as an attachment where people can't see. So you'd need to copy them from the source so they save in the post as a new attachment.

Apologies! I thought I'd gotten around that by quoting the post instead of just copying it. Will switch out the graphs.

It's a weird quirk! Not sure why it works that way.
