[Inside Government] Midterm Check-in With McEntire

Midterm Check-in With McEntire
A brief check-in with First Minister McEntire

Written by Forilian

First Minister McEntire’s term will expire on July 24, and the Europeian Broadcasting Corporation (EBC) conducted an interview with him on the work his cabinet has done so far.

McEntire said that he believes his cabinet will either complete or implement a different version of the goals laid out in his platform by the end of the term. He also said that some goals have already been completed, such as more time-zone diverse shows and new daily dose rewards. However, he further stated that: “I have learned a lot of things since becoming First Minister, and some of the ideas in my platform have evolved.”

In terms of goals where more focus is needed, the first minister cited integration programs, which he believes “have been a major focus and will continue to be a major focus.” Furthermore, he’d also like to see more focus in the ministry of culture, especially after the Republic Day festival, which he described as a success. He thinks that “there are a lot of big changes” his cabinet is trying to do in the ministry of culture, and it will “take a full-court push.”

McEntire said that he found the level of collaboration needed for the position of first minister surprising. This is his first time as head of state, and McEntire said that he was more used to being a legislator in the region, where “you’re really only in charge of yourself, and your own positions and statements.” McEntire also stated that since he wanted to do a good job, he has had to “work past some of [his] own habits in really working in concert with many other people to make big things happen.”

The first post-merge presidential election will take place in approximately two and a half weeks. McEntire said that while he “could see [himself] running, and have had some initial conversations about it,” he is focused on the job he has right now and has a short amount of time to get things done. Therefore, he has not decided whether he is running or not, and “it is not a decision [he is] making today or soon.”

The Arnhelm Review recently released a piece on the McEntire administration's implementation of goals so far. One-third of all goals were determined to be accomplished or "in the works." Notably, the ministry of culture had no promise rated as accomplished or "in the works." Aside from that, all other ministries have already implemented at least one goal from McEntire's platform.

For further details, read McEntire's midterm address here. In it, McEntire summarises what his administration has done in the first two weeks of this term, with special recognition to deputy ministers of each ministry. The first minister further encourages Europeians to be involved in ministries, asserting that "each of us has the power to shape this community, to contribute something special.”
