It looks better with padding. Also the border box affects readability. But mostly because of aesthetics, to be honest.

A note that this issue persists in both Euro Bright and Euro Classic.

Honestly, I' like Euro Classic, though I think it could be changed to be a bit wider on its percentage basis.
