JayDee re-elected for third term in historic elections

Written by Westinor

On January 15th, Europeia saw the conclusion of one of its longest election periods ever in a historic two-round election cycle. Incumbent JayDee, having served two terms and seeking a third and final term, edged out a victory against challenger Elio and their running mate Sincluda. JayDee and his running mate, Vorhollah (Vor), found themselves losing out 26-36 (41.9% - 58.1%) to the option to Re-Open Elections in the first round before coming back against projected favorites Elio and Sincluda in a 42 - 37 (53.2% - 46.8%) vote victory.

JayDee and Vor ran on a platform of building on top of the progress made in JayDee’s past two terms, which have been characterized by both strong assertions of executive proactivity in engagements abroad and declarations of war as well as struggles at home in the holiday slump and several Ministerial resignations. The pair ran initially unopposed, with UPC declaring intention to stand with Sanjurika as his running mate before withdrawing due to illness. Growing concerns about a second unopposed election, remarks about the relative success of JayDee’s administration in the past two terms, and the promise of multiple challenging tickets ready to stand in the second election cycle would fuel a campaign to vote for the option to Re-Open Elections (ROE), This would culminate in ROE’s first ever victory, in an election that saw a total of 62 votes, up from the 55 votes in October’s presidential election.

Presidential standing re-opened for a second cycle on January 6th. This time, two tickets stood to challenge JayDee and Vor – Elio and Sincluda, who campaigned on larger-scale restructurings in the executive to address burnout including but not limited to the re-merging of the Communications and Radio Ministry as well as the recreation of the Europeian Civil Service, and McEntire and Monkey, who ran on an unconventional platform to reduce Presidential burdens, establish a civil service, and hold a Constitutional Convention. The Presidential candidates would engage in a debate on January 11th, the day after which McEntire would drop out of the race, citing a lack of support, and endorse Elio’s ticket.

The second vote would see a remarkable turnout of 79 voters, the highest since the June 2018 Presidential election six years ago. JayDee and Vor took the vote by 6.4 percentage points, subverting expectations after an EBC poll put Elio and Sincluda ahead by a margin of 62.5% to 37.5%. JayDee and Vor now confront the challenge of delivering on promises to set the stage for new leadership, make clear headways on conflict abroad, and reinvigorate activity at home. The administration will once again see a variety of new faces in the mix for cabinet positions, with JayDee having nominated the following for cabinet positions:

Attorney General: Calvin Coolidge
Grand Admiral: Darcness
Press Secretary: UPC
Minister of Communications: The Islamic Country of Honour
Minister of Culture: Ellenburg
Minister of Foreign Affairs: Rand
Minister of Gameside: Prov
Minister of Outreach: Sanjurika
Minister of Radio: August
Minister of World Assembly Affairs: John Laurens
