Prominent Citizens Craft Platform on World Assembly Reform
By Writinglegend

(Europeia – December 5, 2017) – A group of citizens have posted a platform for the advancement of Europeia's world assembly policy, which includes giving the executive power to appoint the World Assembly Delegate and give directives on votes. This is a climax to the contentious issue of our world assembly policy that began last year with the creation of Europeia's Ministry of World Assembly Affairs.

"This transformed WA Affairs: From an area that was under the direct purview of the Delegate with practically no input from the executive; to one that is now directly managed by the executive with the Delegate acting in a supporting role." The platform reads.

In the past fourteen months, Europeia has experienced a shift in terms of how the region’s management of World Assembly affairs. The catalyst for this change was the creation of the Ministry of World Assembly Affairs, which saw the executive government exert never-before seen influence over Europeia's World Assembly policy. The platform goes on to discuss the impact of this management change.

"We have seen the revitalization of the WALL, for the first time since 2014," the platform comments. "The Alliance is once more asserting the position of the dominant voting bloc across NationStates." The platform would go on to describe the benefit this management system has had on increased engagement in resolutions, increased voter turnout, and increased passing of favorable resolutions. The platform describes then ext natural transition is a more dominant executive management structure, with the World Assembly Delegate being appointed.

The platform levied an expectation that all candidates for Senate give their opinion on the proposed legislation that would enact these changes. NewsGrumps has recently released a graphic showing the current stance of candidates on this issue. Malashaan ranks as the strongest supporter of the changes, while Festavo ranks as the largest opponent.

The platform was originally signed my several prominent voices in the area of the world assembly, including r3n, Malashaan, Rach, Writinglegend, Aexnidaral, and Sanctaria. Chair of the CfRP XIV would call the platform similar to "holding the election hostage," a comment that sparked his later apology.

"It seems we're going to [go ahead with this], since the executive and several regional bigwigs have decided to hold senate elections hostage if they don't get their way on it," he stated in response to the platform. "I hate the idea of the president appointing the delegate."

Many countered with accusation with the idea that the signatories were not holding the election hostage, but forming something akin to a political interest group that represents stronger executive control in world assembly affairs.

"It resembles a political interest group that states a stance and then how candidates for Senate can get votes from those affiliated," current Minister Without Portfolio commented. "Absolutely no different than anything an organization (or party) might do." The latter comment stems from the fact that XIV was recently the Chairman of the Coalition for Responsible Politics (CfRP), which serves a similar function in putting down beliefs and supporting candidates who agree with them.

It is beyond clear that the signatories to the platform intended to bring the issue of delegacy reform to the spotlight. It was a matter that lacked resounding discussion and formulated ideas. The platform has bolstered the issue to generate dialogue on reform. Much like a political interest group, the signatories are expecting candidates to levy their feelings on the subject and will support those who agree with the core aspects of their reform bill.

There have been several contentious opinions on the topic within the current senate field.

"I'm a bit hesitant with giving the president full discretion to appoint the World Assembly Delegate," candidate JayDee stated on the legislation. "The delegate is often times the first person people will meet and see gameside in our region." He would later go on to note how he supported the bill despite being hesitant on the main clauses in the proposed legislation.

Candidate and current Senator Vac has come out in support for the legislation. "The Executive has proven to be very capable at handling WA affairs," he noted. "There is no reason why the trend should not continue."

The issue of delegacy reform will be red-hot on the mind of voters when Senate elections open this Friday, December 8th. Expect this discussion to shape the discourse of Europeia's next senate cycle.
